Wreckfest has identity crisis written all over it. It has no real vision behind it, like the devs couldn't decide what they wanted their game to be.

Another disadvantage is the lack of cloud storage, especially with the introduction of seasons because deleting the game or, in my case, replacing the hard drive, you just lose all your points that you saved for the purchase of new content. Otherwise it is a more modern FlatOut that is developing and I hope it will be even more interesting in the future :) Expand

If you pick this up in early access you'll enjoy the content, but it is limited in this current early access state and then you'll get a bit bored and put Wreckfest on the backburner and keep a look out for the faithful day when Steam updates the game and then you'll get stuck in once again.

As a driving game it's a ton of fun, and the silly physics of crumpled cars flying through the air is quite amusing. It's unrealistic but that's fine, it's about smashing cars and enjoying racing carnage.

I'm merely rating this game on it's current state, but I'd happily give it a full blown 10 when it's fully released and shows it full potential, and I have a good feeling it will.

    ... Déçu.

A brilliant mix of racing and carnage, Wreckfest is for the sim racing fan who is tired of the norm and wants to hurt people (virtually, obviously). With good visuals and a cracking soundtrack, if you love driving as much as you do smashing things then you have to try this game.

For starters.. wreckfest is a bunch of dumb fun.. you can compete in challenges online, play solo or multiplayer… it doesn’t matter what type of racing fan you are, wreckfest has something for you.. sadly no local multiplayer though… which is a huge deal when it comes to racing games, especially one of dumb fun such as this.. I primarily played career mode, where youll be completing a variety of challenges to earn points to unclock the next cup, each one progressively getting more challenging with faster and more aggressive cars… what makes wreckfust so unique is its pure demolition gameplay.. from demolition derbys to racing, you have to watch you don’t absolutely destroy your car… the rate at which you take damage is adjustable so I personally found the right level for me for it to not be so annoying, but rather a thrill trying to wreck other racers.. and again there is a variety when it comes to the challenges in the form of the vehicles you use… sadly though wreckfest’s charm fades only after a couple of hours… the tracks and game modes just weren’t there to keep my attention… the tracks weren’t much fun or unique, and crashing into other racers in the demolition derby just gets stale after a while.. though wreckfest did managae to hit me qith some thrilling challenges anre races randomly throughout the career… I just wish these moments were more consistent and more varied.. don’t get me wrong.. iwas glued to this game until suddenly I wasn’t.. so there is fun to be had here…
Wreckfest as a series has tons of potential.
I would love to see possibly a more arcady route in the future, especially for the racing… we have enough realistic boring race tracks out there…
    I give Wreckfest
    a 7/10

In a nutshell, Wreckfest has one of the greatest arcade racing engines ever made and mostly wastes it in a shallow game with poorly thought-out design. The really high review will generally come from people who have only played the game for a few hours/days.

In a nutshell, Wreckfest has one of the greatest arcade racing engines ever made and mostly wastes it in a shallow game with poorly thought-out design. The really high review will generally come from people who have only played the game for a few hours/days.

The cars look great, the tracks look good and are (mostly) well-designed, and the driving feel is excellent. The crash physics are super fun, easily the best created to date.

Why the 5 then? Because there are a host of design problems that have ultimately led to this game having only short-term play value. I'd highly recommend it if whatever you pay for it is worth a few weeks of fun, but if you need to get more out of it than that you'd likely be making a mistake.

Wreckfest is ultimately reliant on multiplayer play, as its Career mode and accompanying boring AI is too shallow to serve as anything other than a decent training/practice session to gear up for multiplayer.

However, less than 6 months after game release, the multiplayer audience is already dying rapidly, to the point where you will often not be able to find a server with a decent crowd of racers. Ultimately, you're left with a game you'd like to play with other racers, but have little opportunity to do so.

The basic problem lies in the fact that Wreckfest makes wrecking instead of racing fun and easy enough to create an environment in which people who don't want to put in the effort required to drive well to be able to completely destroy races for players who are actually trying to compete. The wrecking is fun, but that experience grows tiresome with repetition, leaving what should have been the meat of the audience stuck usually trying to wade through a mess of new players/trolls driving backwards around tracks, setting up their vehicles as roadblocks, or just piling into the nearest vehicle on every corner. The players that should be carrying the game end up leaving relatively quickly and now the "community" is typically less than 100 players at any given time divided into 3 groups: "Clean" racing with a lot of rules that suck most of the fun out for anyone who isn't in the top 3% of racing ability, "Dirty" racing in which any interest in actual driving will only frustrate you, and once in a while the fun medium that should have carried the game. Unfortunately, that is becoming rare enough that you cannot depend on being available very often with enough player to make for a fun game.

A few simple better design decisions would have avoided this, but unfortunately Bugbear seems much better at making racing physics than making games. Perhaps future updates will address these issues, but I think THQ's focus is on getting console versions released, not fixing the current audience-killing issues, and the window for saving this game in an online market may have already passed.

Some simple things that could have really helped:

Front-end collisions should have been much more damaging to vehicles than side or rear collisions (at least in race modes), this would have limited the ability of non-racers to destroy races simply by full-speed piling into every corner.

Buses and harvesters should never have been added. The SUV should have been less powerful.

Car setups should have been saveable and be selectable during multiplayer play to facilitate racing in different classes.

    Oldskulowe podejście do wyścigów.
Brak otoczki fabularnej, brak otwartego świata, brak tworzenia postaci, brak charakterystycznych przeciwników.
Wybieramy wyścig, wygrywamy/przegrywamy, wybieramy kolejny... Czasem kupimy jakiś samochód spośród podobnych do siebie.

    Udźwiękowienie ujdzie.
Głośne i raczej nieprzyjemne ryki silników. Muzyka dobra, z przytupem

Not a remake though. What's the difference you ask? Well, it has both the good, but also the bad, and while the graphics are new and pretty good and the game has DLCs including (overpriced and with stats better than base-game) carpacks, essential things for any remaster, the game also fails to improve pretty much everything that plagued the old racing titles. This game is a love-letter to crash-racers of olden days, but love is blind to any imperfections.

The racing is great. It's just fun, pure fun. The cars handle great and there is an okay variety of them in terms of body types, etc. and they are all pretty distinct, the tracks are awesome and pretty varied, the graphics are pretty good for a smaller studio, the damage model is well done - detailed and there's very little of surface stretching and objects sticking or melting into each other that happens a lot in BeamNG for example.

On the other hand, the economy is, as in the old FlatOut games, not that good, and it requires you to re-run races repeatedly in the career mode already, and you only really need a couple cars to get through the career. Sure, completing the garage and unlocking all upgrades etc. should take some time, but in C class races with only 2 cars, you will already be counting every single dime, and I came here to race and crash cars, not count coppers. The base car roster, though varied, is also a bit limited in some categories, a couple more cars would be welcome - in the base game, not as "micro"transactions.

The design of the menus is also atrocious and stuck in times even before FlatOut was a thing, and sometimes you spend as much time clicking through menus and trying to find something or switch cars, etc. as you spend racing. It's like the UI designer got put into cryostasis sometime in the first half of the 1990's and then got thawed out to make the menus in this game without being allowed even a glimpse of the progress that was made in this field. In addition, the game often freezes in the menus, mostly not leading to a crash, just freezing and then not allowing you to do anything, but to back out of the menu, so you have to retry that menu sometimes several times in a row until it starts working...

So why 7/10, when I complain so much? Well, as I said, the game is just pure fun. When you are in a race, and don't have to fight stupid menu design or make complex financial plans for buying a digital exhaust for a digital car, when the engines roar, tires squeal and metal bends and cracks, the game just pulls you in, and you want more.

In the end though, the game comes as a whole package and there's only one thing I can say about it in conclusion: It's a nostalgia trip. A fun and good looking nostalgia trip, but still a nostalgia trip. Eventually, the rose tinted glasses come off, and the issues of yesteryear which we have since dealt with will rear their ugly head again. Where you will stand on the scale between enjoyment and frustration will then depend on your ability and willingness to suffer their presence.

This technically superb tribute to Destruction Derby could use some more insanity (especially in terms of unimaginative, repetitive arenas and challenges) and a broader color palette. The default driving model (with active assists) is both believable and satisfying and the destruction model is very detailed. [09/2018, p.60]
