This game has delivered some of the best gameplay I have experienced in a long time, ive played mostly online and find the community so far is solid, friendly, fun and laid back. Racing is often a serious, clean and fair sport where trading paint is almost always as far as it should go but then theres banger racing and this game does banger racing perfect. The damage model is hands down the best in any racing game released so far but they have put thought into the game to ensure you can still race when damaged and continue right until the finish line having fun, lets face it nobody really wants to be out first corner race after race so the game doesn't severely hamper your car or destroy it when taking punishment, you take mechanical damage but really its minor and you can see what the devs are trying to do. the graphics are perfectly fine and at times its often mind blowing when you see the carnage ensue and the game still runs silky smooth, smoother than one would expect! it really is all about that damage and particle system.

This game manages to produce lots of magical moments that simply cant be reproduced on other more serious games, when you race door to door with 2, 3 or maybe 15 into one corner its a different kind of thrill when you know how this could end, you can hit jumps 3 abreast and come crashing down in a whoile world of carnage but whats I love about the game most when racing is looking into the distance ahead or whats going on behind, when I see a car ahead of me hit a corner all wrong and take to the air in a spin I simply cant help but go wooow! bursting out laughing and then Ill look behind and see the track filled with debris and tyres in the air as battles go on behind, its just so thrilling.

this game really isn't polished like forza, its cars cant hold a candle to project cars 2, it lacks any real online ranking system which is a real bummer right now but the game excels where all those others simply don't and that's in sheer good old fashioned fun.

really cant express enough how good this game is, its just a different kind of racing experience and I love it.

Wreckfest has identity crisis written all over it. It has no real vision behind it, like the devs couldn't decide what they wanted their game to be.

So. Big new update changed the gameplay significantly. For the worse.

They've released a hotfix for rubberbanding issues, fine. It's still baffling how much you can upgrade your car and it not matter in the slightest (even though AI can now utilize upgrades). Also still getting a lot of pink cars that clearly have a texture problem. But as the other most recent review mentioned...

But as the other most recent review mentioned... the gameplay is a complete soft arcade feel. The crashes don't have any real weight to them.

It's changed it from Wreckfest to Spongefest.

Old gameplay was physical, realistic enough for it to feel good, the cornering made sense. The crashes were meaty, the damage was glorious. (Both in the normal mode, and the realistic damage mode. If you're wondering the difference, "realistic" mode made it so if your front wheel bent, you couldn't drive at all, the normal mode made it so that you could still drive on to finish, but steering would be harder).

The new gameplay is like trying to drive a soggy book in a pack of overly vindictive AI driving cars that don't make sense except for a 5 year old.

BugBear need to really focus on the community feedback for this update, and not ignore the many people (check the steam comments as well) who are gutted with these weird changes to things that were the highlight of the game.

I don't really care about flags now being animated, I care about the core handling, crashes, AI behaviour and sense of physicality. I hope another update will fix these things.

It used to be a good game.

I was thinking this was like flatout but its only vaguely similar at best, if it was below £10 I would consider it worth it but the game as it is is just far too limited and stops being fun quite quickly with similar looking tracks that dont have shortcuts or any variation along with a limited roster of cars.

If you pick this up in early access you'll enjoy the content, but it is limited in this current early access state and then you'll get a bit bored and put Wreckfest on the backburner and keep a look out for the faithful day when Steam updates the game and then you'll get stuck in once again.

As a driving game it's a ton of fun, and the silly physics of crumpled cars flying through the air is quite amusing. It's unrealistic but that's fine, it's about smashing cars and enjoying racing carnage.

I'm merely rating this game on it's current state, but I'd happily give it a full blown 10 when it's fully released and shows it full potential, and I have a good feeling it will.

    ... Déçu.

You can also tune your cars before each race depending on the course type (percentage of dirt vs tarmac, how many straightaways, it could be an short/long oval track on dirt/tarmac, etc...)

Super fun game. My only frustrations are that that I didn't want the "career"' to end (too much fun) and I believe they can add so much more to this game. Definitely a genre that has been void and Wreckfest crushes it. Figure 8 race in a station wagon with a modded engine and metal door plating? School bus? Lawn mower? Harvester? Double decker cars? Want a straight up demolition derby in a grass field? A street course filled with hills and turns?

    Yep.

For starters.. wreckfest is a bunch of dumb fun.. you can compete in challenges online, play solo or multiplayer… it doesn’t matter what type of racing fan you are, wreckfest has something for you.. sadly no local multiplayer though… which is a huge deal when it comes to racing games, especially one of dumb fun such as this.. I primarily played career mode, where youll be completing a variety of challenges to earn points to unclock the next cup, each one progressively getting more challenging with faster and more aggressive cars… what makes wreckfust so unique is its pure demolition gameplay.. from demolition derbys to racing, you have to watch you don’t absolutely destroy your car… the rate at which you take damage is adjustable so I personally found the right level for me for it to not be so annoying, but rather a thrill trying to wreck other racers.. and again there is a variety when it comes to the challenges in the form of the vehicles you use… sadly though wreckfest’s charm fades only after a couple of hours… the tracks and game modes just weren’t there to keep my attention… the tracks weren’t much fun or unique, and crashing into other racers in the demolition derby just gets stale after a while.. though wreckfest did managae to hit me qith some thrilling challenges anre races randomly throughout the career… I just wish these moments were more consistent and more varied.. don’t get me wrong.. iwas glued to this game until suddenly I wasn’t.. so there is fun to be had here…
Wreckfest as a series has tons of potential.
I would love to see possibly a more arcady route in the future, especially for the racing… we have enough realistic boring race tracks out there…
    I give Wreckfest
    a 7/10

In a nutshell, Wreckfest has one of the greatest arcade racing engines ever made and mostly wastes it in a shallow game with poorly thought-out design. The really high review will generally come from people who have only played the game for a few hours/days.

The cars look great, the tracks look good and are (mostly) well-designed, and the driving feel is excellent. The crash physics are super fun, easily the best created to date.

Why the 5 then? Because there are a host of design problems that have ultimately led to this game having only short-term play value. I'd highly recommend it if whatever you pay for it is worth a few weeks of fun, but if you need to get more out of it than that you'd likely be making a mistake.

Wreckfest is ultimately reliant on multiplayer play, as its Career mode and accompanying boring AI is too shallow to serve as anything other than a decent training/practice session to gear up for multiplayer.

However, less than 6 months after game release, the multiplayer audience is already dying rapidly, to the point where you will often not be able to find a server with a decent crowd of racers. Ultimately, you're left with a game you'd like to play with other racers, but have little opportunity to do so.

The basic problem lies in the fact that Wreckfest makes wrecking instead of racing fun and easy enough to create an environment in which people who don't want to put in the effort required to drive well to be able to completely destroy races for players who are actually trying to compete. The wrecking is fun, but that experience grows tiresome with repetition, leaving what should have been the meat of the audience stuck usually trying to wade through a mess of new players/trolls driving backwards around tracks, setting up their vehicles as roadblocks, or just piling into the nearest vehicle on every corner. The players that should be carrying the game end up leaving relatively quickly and now the "community" is typically less than 100 players at any given time divided into 3 groups: "Clean" racing with a lot of rules that suck most of the fun out for anyone who isn't in the top 3% of racing ability, "Dirty" racing in which any interest in actual driving will only frustrate you, and once in a while the fun medium that should have carried the game. Unfortunately, that is becoming rare enough that you cannot depend on being available very often with enough player to make for a fun game.

A few simple better design decisions would have avoided this, but unfortunately Bugbear seems much better at making racing physics than making games. Perhaps future updates will address these issues, but I think THQ's focus is on getting console versions released, not fixing the current audience-killing issues, and the window for saving this game in an online market may have already passed.

Some simple things that could have really helped:

Front-end collisions should have been much more damaging to vehicles than side or rear collisions (at least in race modes), this would have limited the ability of non-racers to destroy races simply by full-speed piling into every corner.

Buses and harvesters should never have been added. The SUV should have been less powerful.

Car setups should have been saveable and be selectable during multiplayer play to facilitate racing in different classes.

With destruction and damage so beautiful it will bring grown men to tears and some frankly genius track design (Who knew that a Rallycross track could provide such complete and utter carnage?), this is an absolute must-have if you have a sadistic itch you so desperately want to scratch. If there is any problems with this game, I would probably say the career mode is boring and grindy. However, you’ll be having too much fun in custom events and multiplayer to really care

    Nie miały chęci mordu.
    Zero emocji. Nuda.

    Oldskulowe podejście do wyścigów.
Brak otoczki fabularnej, brak otwartego świata, brak tworzenia postaci, brak charakterystycznych przeciwników.
Wybieramy wyścig, wygrywamy/przegrywamy, wybieramy kolejny... Czasem kupimy jakiś samochód spośród podobnych do siebie.

    Udźwiękowienie ujdzie.
Głośne i raczej nieprzyjemne ryki silników. Muzyka dobra, z przytupem

Unlike Many other racing games these days, Wreckfest makes collisions a core element of its gameplay, and assumes this choice with great physics and a precise modelling of car damages. You'll have a lot of fun ramming in your opponents, whether in races or in destruction derby mode.

In spite of the very nervous aspect of "driving and making your opponents crash", the game feels quite chill, even in multiplayer, and the devs don't miss an occasion to joke with their vehicles offer, including a racing sofa, a lawn mower, and other surprises.

The content is quite standard for a racing game: a campaign, a free mode, multiplayer, car customisation... nothing really out of ordinary here. However there is an event mode, with daily, weekly and seasonal challenges that will keep the fun going. The devs make big efforts to bring variety, especially in the weekly and seasonal events.
For the rest, I would not mind a bit more content, especially in terms of tracks: after a while it feels like you know all the tracks, especially since some are just longer/shorter variations of others. A fews more tracks in at least one or two more environments would not be too much.

The only other thing that could be improved would be the possibility to seamlessly create private lobbies for multiplayer. Well, you can do that, but you need to create your own server, put a password, and then (the annoying part) tinker into Windows to open the right ports... Games these days usually offer the private lobby option with just a click, a pity that it is not the case here.

Other than that, Wreckfest is in essence what videogames should be: no hassle, just pure fun racing and destroying cars.

I played with Flatout 1-2 much earlier, and it is still the same feeling. Really varied cars, their physics differs, the paintings and customization is meaningful and funny.
The events e.g., go with a 3 wheeled car against 25 school buses are really awesome! I did not expect to be so entertained with this type of game. I thought I have seen everything in this genre already.

Not a remake though. What's the difference you ask? Well, it has both the good, but also the bad, and while the graphics are new and pretty good and the game has DLCs including (overpriced and with stats better than base-game) carpacks, essential things for any remaster, the game also fails to improve pretty much everything that plagued the old racing titles. This game is a love-letter to crash-racers of olden days, but love is blind to any imperfections.

The racing is great. It's just fun, pure fun. The cars handle great and there is an okay variety of them in terms of body types, etc. and they are all pretty distinct, the tracks are awesome and pretty varied, the graphics are pretty good for a smaller studio, the damage model is well done - detailed and there's very little of surface stretching and objects sticking or melting into each other that happens a lot in BeamNG for example.

On the other hand, the economy is, as in the old FlatOut games, not that good, and it requires you to re-run races repeatedly in the career mode already, and you only really need a couple cars to get through the career. Sure, completing the garage and unlocking all upgrades etc. should take some time, but in C class races with only 2 cars, you will already be counting every single dime, and I came here to race and crash cars, not count coppers. The base car roster, though varied, is also a bit limited in some categories, a couple more cars would be welcome - in the base game, not as "micro"transactions.

The design of the menus is also atrocious and stuck in times even before FlatOut was a thing, and sometimes you spend as much time clicking through menus and trying to find something or switch cars, etc. as you spend racing. It's like the UI designer got put into cryostasis sometime in the first half of the 1990's and then got thawed out to make the menus in this game without being allowed even a glimpse of the progress that was made in this field. In addition, the game often freezes in the menus, mostly not leading to a crash, just freezing and then not allowing you to do anything, but to back out of the menu, so you have to retry that menu sometimes several times in a row until it starts working...

So why 7/10, when I complain so much? Well, as I said, the game is just pure fun. When you are in a race, and don't have to fight stupid menu design or make complex financial plans for buying a digital exhaust for a digital car, when the engines roar, tires squeal and metal bends and cracks, the game just pulls you in, and you want more.

In the end though, the game comes as a whole package and there's only one thing I can say about it in conclusion: It's a nostalgia trip. A fun and good looking nostalgia trip, but still a nostalgia trip. Eventually, the rose tinted glasses come off, and the issues of yesteryear which we have since dealt with will rear their ugly head again. Where you will stand on the scale between enjoyment and frustration will then depend on your ability and willingness to suffer their presence.

Man this game gets me giggling. The racing in this game is just pure fun. Smashing into cars or seeing tires fly into the air as you try to make precise corners. One of the best racing experiences. If this was paired with a little better variety of tracks or a progression system this could have been one of the all time great racers.

criminally underrated and i hope it gains more attention in the future. the most fun racing game ive played in years and has produced a number of memorable moments. some of the tracks seem a little basic, however, and it would be improved with the addition of tracks that lean further into the physical side of the game as opposed to the racing, playing to their strengths. overall very fun

It was a joyful ride with this game , made me love driving games again , just took me to early 20's arcades when it wasn't all about money and online transaction . Honestly, it would have been 10/10 if they included "Splitscreen" mode for couch fun.

A masterpiece! A serious contender for the most fun I've ever had playing a game. It still stands up well in 2022! The combination of deep driving & racing mechanics in a full-contact game never gets old. All other racing games are dull by comparison. Even better playing on a wheel - excellent control and force feedback - not an afterthought. A steal at current prices.

When it comes to destroying cars, this game is one of the best, second only to "BeamNg" and the only weak point is its gameplay a little difficult to get used to, especially on the highway of dust

There is so much fun in Wreckfest. A racing "deathmatch" which originated on the top demolition technology is full of crashes, tension, but also humor and DIY work. [Issue#287]

This technically superb tribute to Destruction Derby could use some more insanity (especially in terms of unimaginative, repetitive arenas and challenges) and a broader color palette. The default driving model (with active assists) is both believable and satisfying and the destruction model is very detailed. [09/2018, p.60]
