WRC 8 did it! Amazing game played on PC and G29 with a small twitch on the settings. The driving feels real, the tracks are so fun and so challenging.

Not rated 10 because the graphics are not fully optimized. Recommended.

I like it more than DR 2.0.
It looks more realistic than DR2.0, FFB feels better too.
Sounds aren't that good but there is a roam for updates. I'm really suprised by their new camera settings what gives the game a new dimension.
The game works well, nothing is missing here.

Fine! This is how Dirt Rally 2.0 should have looked and worked.

Career mode looks promising. The game is solid 8 points, but I will put it in advance 9. The only problem is the sound of small objects being broken - a bush, a snowdrift, the sound is almost the same and looks like a big bursting ball. It should not be.

    My verdict:
Definitely better than WRC 7 and Dirt Rally 2.0 (as I recall the physics of the car like soap fell into the sink, blood flows from the eyes), but not better than Dirt Rally 1.0

Congratulations to the developers, they made a really worthy product. Perhaps the best there is now in the rally!

p.s. Do not look at the ratings of degradants who rate the game at 0. It's just pulling Dirt 2.0 to a higher level. There can be no 0 rating for rally fans and such an assessment cannot be objective.

Kylotonn have come of age with this game. In one word: excellent. WRC 8 could be called the first real professional effort by Kylotonn in the official rally series. It's packed with content, has a deep career mode and, best of all, is enjoyable to play.

The force feedback on the G29 is very good overall. The physics are good and intuitive. This isn't a full-on simulation but handling is very intuitive and quite realistic. Car placement and weight balance/transfer under braking and acceleration are necessary in order step the rear end out, just as in real life. Driving is a pleasure in this game and the only poor side of the dynamic model is the collision physics which can be really weird at times. The progressive loss and gain of grip is modeled quite well and the FFB communicates nicely what the car is doing. The feeling between the different surfaces is dramatic and well done. It's still a center-pivot dynamic model with a basic tire model, but what is there is actually very well done. No tire pressures or tire temps, but there is tire wear.

It is truly a hardcore experience with Authentic damage and Perma-crash activated. Damage is quite punishing, with one small off being enough to damage things, and damage effects are immediately perceptible. For example, steering damage will cause the car to pull to one side. It's pretty easy to puncture, too, but not as extremely sensitive as the "hardcore" damage in DR2.0. It's even more extreme on Authentic Difficulty. Hard is bad enough, Authentic probably is for the 1% aliens. Couple the hardcore difficulty/damage with the intense, narrow stages and WRC 8 is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Casuals can still enjoy it with lower difficulty settings and assists.

The dynamic weather is a great addition to the game. Best of all, it's not overdone just for the sake of it. The weather progression through the different rallies is based on the real rally's climate. So pretty much Wales is the only possibility of you getting pummelled by constant rain. Rain leaves puddles on the stages which cause aquaplaning. It upsets the car as well as being felt through the FFB. Rain effects are well done, as are the storm effects blowing trees around in the wind and reducing visibility. Excellent ambiance. But as I said earlier, the best thing about the dynamic weather is that it's not overdone just for the sake of it; you will not have constant heavy rain night stages as some kind of artificial difficulty. Most of the time the weather patterns seems completely realistic and 100% plausible.

The dash cam is quite good, although I dislike the cockpit cam which is the cam I usually use in racing sims. All cameras (even exterior) have FOV and positioning options. They are, however, kind of limited in scope. The driver arms and wheel only turn like 30 degrees but thankfully can be turned off.

Sounds are decent. Nothing spectacular but they do their job. The interior cam sound with the transmission whine is pretty close to real WRC onboards. The engine sounds from the exterior are not that great. The codriver voice is pretty bad again, but the notes at least are quite accurate. The watersplash and puddle noises can get annoying. While not exactly unrealistic, the problem is that crossing a river has the same sound as running over a puddle. The puddle sound should be toned down a bit.

Graphics are good. Playing on an i7 and RTX 2060 @ 1080p @ 60fps with most things on High and it's pretty rock solid. I had to turn shadows, crowd and foilage down a bit to avoid stuttering in forest sections under certain lighting conditions. Replays are improved with trackside cameras mixed with the odd drone and helicopter shots. The jumps look odd in the replays, otherwise they are a pleasure to watch. No photomode. No VR.

There is lots of content. 500km of unique stage km, of which more than 250km are brand new. There are 74 stages. Note that I do not count the Epic Stages here because they are just the shorter stages stitched together. That's how KT got to the 102 stage count. It's misleading, and I'm sad to see them borrow that page from the Codemasters playbook, but I guess it's better to have them then to not, since they are quite long (over 20km in some instances) and very intense. However, I refuse to count them as unique content.

The career mode is very deep, managing crew, money, morale, a skill tree, etc... as well as taking place in training events between rallies. There is a mode to play seasons without the career stuff if you want. Hot seat mode and custom championships and rallies are gone. Split screen is still here. Online modes haven't changed and are pretty basic.

It's useless to compare it to DR2.0. Both are worth having and satisfy the needs of any sim rally racer. However, WRC 8 is a better overall package as it packs in more bang for your buck. It's an 8 but I rate 9 to make up for the 0 trolls who rate low without saying why.

The graphics might not be as polished as Dirt Rally 2.0 in some aspects but who really has time to look at bushes when you're flying downNarrow path at 100+ mph. The career mode is super in depth and intuitive and adds a whole new level of gameplay. The testing area in all it's freeroam glory is also a very nice touch. The only thing I really wish this game had, and I realize it's a WRC game, is a larger selection of cars but honestly. This game coupled with Dirt Rally 2.0s Rally cross and car selection makes for a Rally duo that will satisfy for a very long time. WRC 8 is a fantastic and fun game. The only real problem I have with the game is the poor optimization. On a I7-7700k at 5.0ghz with a 1080Ti I would expect to run this at least as good as Dirt Rally 2.0. The graphics here are not on par with that game yet I see big dips in FPS down to the 30s and even lower on every stage. I don't expect to have to remove all post-processing features to still get this. Maybe it is in need of a driver update with nVidia? This game is no-doubt forward step from WRC 6-7, but for me - backward step from V-Rally 4, produced by Kylotonn past year. For me, first of all, car physics and handling aspect is important, but for others we can mention the same. For example, picture is also better, than in previous WRC, but worse, than in V-Rally.

So, in physics we see return to the origins of WRC5, only spoiled by modifications of two following versions. Now it became more sophisticated and advanced, but in the same time - still also spoiled. And I think, that developers spoiled for purpose, playing up to previously created community, preferring not rally, but "mad hotlap" gameplay type (in V-Rally everything was quite proper with it).
Really good I feel myself with R5 cars (WRC2), but when I try higher class.... here you feel, that car moved not by tyres, but by jet engine, and also turns not by tyres, but by invisible hand. And yes, here we see "Dirt Rally effect", first time in the Kylotonn series: car sometimes accelerates, turns and brakes even directly in air, in flying position after jump. Of course, its not the result of necessity to simulate more powerful engines: in SLRE monster 1000hp hill-climb cars does not behave in such way.

The problem is in fact, that in this new game car dont lose grip at high speed, it sometimes lead to jerk-type acceleration, producing undrivable drift, but its also produce fantastic drivability in most cases. The rule of fast moving here is "never release trottle and cut turns in most possible way"... while in real life and good simulatirs, like RBR, SLRE and also V-Rally 4, just free sliding by wide lines with slight corrections by gas pedal give advantage and solves all, as well as earlier braking before turns and so on.

And, as a result, not physical intuition, mastership needed here for win, but long track sucking: the game made for tarmac lap racers, which bored with their usual tracks and wants something more hot. But this "more hot" is NOT rally, where, in real competitions, you drive each stage only ones, and all that chapito tricks, making succes here, in game, are absolutly excluded and impossible. Since we see here old WRC6 mad and ugly tracks, used for many years, -it make most type of avaiable competitions sensless. For WRC simulator we need 300 km in each location, generated by engine just before run, with 50 km of specials. It would be really great, while to produce again the game with 3 stages per location - its absolutly in vain. Time for such generator is gone! In Dirt4 first step was made by Codemasters, V-Rally 4 also made it's contribution, but now we need quality world with really flexible road net, each time new. Realistic traks, without specially made traps behind each turn and knoll, and realistic physics at level of SLRE or at least V-Rally4, - it will make the game really good.

On the other hand, career regime in this game, at least with eatable R5 cars physics, can bring real enjoyment. Generally feelings here is better, than in new Dirt Rally, car is not holded by rubber springs (substituted metal railway from DR1) and can move quite free.

Bad news are in the fact, that not only cheaters still feel themselves free here, but, looks like, developers and portal administration play up to them also. We see fantastic time in online leaderboards, but also in weekly challenges a half of top list is beeing fullfiled with evident cheaters. For example, if you'll download leaders ghosts, you sometimes can find, that they goes along entire track with 6 gear. But the most interesting, that its not so easy to download these ghosts: looks like, portal administration blocked this option for some users or even countries! Me ocassionly found, that I can download these ghosts while special software enabled (this software I use for access some sites, blocked by our goverment: it substitute location data and so on), otherwise I recieve message "check your internet connection". Its very similar, that developers made it for purpose. Generally, they made everything for destroy community: now we have not any working forum, where somebody will explain us problems and tell, for example, when promised live match will start to work. Interesting, that in September I found in facebook personal message to me, where WRC8 team offered me to share with them information about possible cheating in esport competition they organize. I wrote them, that first of all I need ghosts, aviable for pursuiting in game, for analyze their behaviour... and as a result we meet situation with ghosts described upper. Now I really suspect, that this competition is totally corrupted: it even similar, that some built-in cheats presents in the game, and affiliated participants recieve access to them, winning then with that 6th gear runs in esport as well as in challenges.

My biggest gripe is the FOV, thankfully they added a FOV slider with seat position and height, but cockpit view is god awful so I end up using the dash cam and most prefers the bonet cam. Also WRC 8 is exclusive on the Epic store for a year, which is super annoying after seeing it say "September 2019" on Steam up until a week before release. I also wish there was VR, Dirt Rally 1/2 is amazing in VR, also WRC series lacks proper triple screen support, WRC 8 dash cam in triples is distracting.

Overall, good rally game still not quite up to Dirt Rally 1/2's standard.

Pourquoi?

There are some issues within WRC 8, and they're not small, but the game is otherwise so good that it's easy to overlook them. For all the times your engine switches to stealth mode or a fence post sends you into low Earth orbit, there are hundreds of times when you are blissfully guiding your car into a drift around a dusty apex in Argentina, or masterfully twisting through a series of highly technical corners during heavy rain. The vehicle handling is so good — and that is so important for a rally game — that even with its flaws, WRC 8 is likely the high bar that other rally games should aspire to.

By far the best outing every by KT Racing/Kylotonn and in the WRC franchise as a whole. With a well-defined career mode, backed up by a wealth of stages, set across a variety of places within the world, all of which are well designed, WRC 8 offers a lot for fans who want yet another strong rally game to jump into. While not quite alongside DiRT Rally 2.0, it's certainly coming close.
