Worms 4: Mayhem

Now that the game is established in a 3-D world, it has, for me at least, lost a little of its gripping intensity — an option to switch action between 2-D and 3-D would have been a nice touch.

Not a great game, but it is a good one.

Improvements have been made throughout the game and it retains a strong sense of fun throughout, something that has only been accentuated by the inclusion of the various customisations.

As the rest of the games in the series, Worms 4 is a blast when played with other people. Single player experience is mostly training for multiplayer, but still quite entertaining. The games biggest flaw is the usual sequel curse: there’s really not enough new content that you’d have to get this game, if you own the previous one in the series. [June 2005, p.72]

The 3D view tends to slow the pace of the game as you struggle to find your targets, resulting in play that's not as frantic as it should be. But aside from this frustration, Worms still has a magic touch.

Another masterpiece from the Yorkshire Tea drinking developers, another multiplayer hit from those flat-cap wearing geniuses.

We loved worms when it first started, hated it when it lost its way and, with the launch of Worms 4 Mayhem we're big fans again.

The gameplay itself is still in relatively good health, and with a good deal of thought and tweaking could be as enjoyable as it ever was, but if Worms is to once again be a post-pub game of choice, it needs to regain its sense of humour.

This is no doubt the funniest strategy game I have ever played. Whether it’s the weapons, the worms’ language, their actions and emotions when they are about to be hit or their catch phrases, everything is UNIQUE and SPOT ON.

Worms 4 is a big improvement from its 3D predecessors and the game has taken a step in the right direction.

One of the best turn-based strategy games on the market. The single player mode is not so glorious, but with friends the game is a real blast. [Sept. 05]

One of the worst downfalls we found in the PS2 version was the lack of an online multiplayer mode, which is intact in the Xbox and PC versions.

If there’s any huge issue with Worms 4: Mayhem, it’s that there’s no massive leap into uncharted ground here.
