There are several main features of this expansion: covenants, maw, torghast.

Answer is simple, this covenant is useful for that class while Necrolords and Revendreth useless if we are taking into account PvE content of SL. So, u cant select a covenant, which you like, if you have plans on mythic+ high keys or myth raid. You should do what you must. Cannot say anything on account of PvP covenant decision, likely it won't coincide with best PvE covenant for class.
Covenant change hurts and throws your progress away.
The Maw is a piece of rock, rares and daily/weekly quests. No one can mount here for now. It s boring and hurts to be there. However, game designers intentionally wanted to make this location comfortless. But they made it unpleasant in a bad way: boring, unmountable, obligatory every day (if you aims progress). This place should be scary, thrilling, forcing players to move. But we have a slow walk on rocks to daily quests and rares.
I cant believe my own words, but visions of Orgrimmar or Stormwind were better.
Thorgast is pretty fun. It gives you opportunity to change your class and feel something new. However, some classes or specs may find it still hard to complete. For instance, shadow priests (if anima talents proced were bad). On the other hand DH in any spec, any anima talents feels good. Generally, Thorgast is ok or even good.
Levelling is good, quests are okay.
Plot is more surf than turf. Feels like a Disney tale.
Poor changes to classes, though 2 classes reworked, no new classes
Huge home town (Oribos), ONLY ONE mail box. Sorry Blizzard, little things make life better.
Easier to have multiple twinks than previous expansion.
Covenant zones and travelling between them looks fantastic.
Players face many bugs for now.
I have some huge plans an myth content. It requires to play covenant u must, visit maw every day, farm locals for anima (almost same as in every expansion, no imagination).
All in all it s 4/10 for me( maybe +1 bonus point for easier twink management). If my plans are not the same as yours, you wish only heroic raiding and 15-key as a highest closed myth+, you would likely rate this expansion as 6-8/10. If you have plans only for PvP content my review is useless for you.

Servers had issues like all MMO launchs. I am still faced up with maintences occasionally.
Game itself is excellent for MMO standarts, descent story, descent gear progression for both pvp and pve, weekly and not dailies quests and lots of optional and side things to do. I can see shadowlands as the next big wow expansion, completely worth your time and money.

    Worst WoW addon for sure.
All that casuals hate from Blizzard side, over the edge timegating everything, completely uninteresting plot so far and no unique features at all (Torghast is not a new feature, it's just the worst from mage tower + the worst from island expeditions)
1/10 just for awesome artwork and beautiful locations, as for the other things this expansion is trash

A proper RPG *SHOULD* have areas and monsters that are higher level - and stronger - than you, because later on you will be strong enough to face them, signifying your growth in power. Also, a proper RPG *SHOULD* have areas and monsters that fall behind you as you grow stronger. This game managed to balance that for years after classic, there's no reason it shouldn't be possible now.

The current team in charge of WoW have no idea what made this game great back in the good ol' days. All they have going for them is WoW's legacy - they couldn't make a decent MMORPG from scratch if their lives depended on it.

Shadowlands is a return to form for Blizzard’s Team 2.

Top-notch writing and story, excellent zone pacing and transitions, perfect balance of main story quests and side tasks, and an endgame chock-full of deep systems to enjoy.

The most fun new system WoW has ever introduced is Shadowlands marquis feature called Torghast, Tower of the Damned—a procedurally-generated “rogue-like” dungeon where you gain insane new powers and abilities as you climb consecutive levels of ever-increasing difficulty.

Even if Shadowlands had NO new features, almost every class (and every specialization within those classes) has been tweaked and given back fun abilities and skills that had been removed in previous expansions in the name of simplification. Some abilities are purely utility or damage-focused, while others simply bring consistency from a lore/RPG standpoint (such as all Mage specializations gaining Frostbolt, Arcane Blast, and Fireball; “Yes, I went to Mage School, but I *specialized* in Fire. Of course I know what a Frostbolt is!”).

So the base game is just fun to play. When the classes are enjoyable and unique, it elevates all the content within the game.

Crafting & Gathering Professions are finally a true market force yet again. I got that old-school RPG feeling when I realized just how many gear enchantments, potions, and usable items were available to “min/max” difficult content. Better than that, however, is the fact that many key progression systems rely on various professions, and high-end crafted products require multiple disparate professions’ output, meaning that the market must contend with itself from almost every aspect of the game. No single character can “do it all.” Players must rely on others (it is an MMO, afterall), OR have multiple alts with all of their professions maxed out (not ideal for one’s sanity, but some mad-lads do it anyway).

The graphics are gorgeous, the music is epic and inspiring, the lore is engaging and fascinating, the voice acting is charming, and the new zones are unique and thematically-perfect.

And once you get to max level, the fun has only just begun.

Luckily, unlike the previous two expansions (Legion in 2016 and Battle for Azeroth in 2018), the endgame content is tailor-fit to each player’s goals:

Players who only like PVP can just PVP, and they can finally (once again) target specific earned gear upgrades while remaining competitive with PVE gearing.

Players who love raiding can focus exclusively on raiding (once this first tier begins next week).

Players who just love dungeons can gear up exclusively with Legion’s most impactful new system, Mythic +, where you earn infinitely-harder versions of dungeons and enemy affixes based on your group’s performance in each run, and you get commiserate rewards. The dungeon design is fantastic as usual (there have been the occasional “duds” over the years, but high-quality dungeons and raids are typically a given for the Warcraft team at this point).

Players who love all 3 main endgame gearing paths are rewarded with MUCH faster and specified gear upgrade acquisition than those who only do one form of content.

Players who couldn’t care less about those 3 pillars of competitive endgame progression have LOADS of fun tertiary gameplay to enjoy: Gorgeous new mounts and transmogs (armor and weapon appearances), titles, pets, gold, extreme achievements, and a dearth of open-world systemic upgrades via the new Covenant system, whereby each player chooses one of four themed factions to fight for, represent, and build up their base of operations.

Blizzard ensured that you can enjoy endgame content endlessly without feeling pressure to constantly grind if you don’t want to or don’t have time to. Each player power progression system is inherently limited/capped to specific benchmarks each week, so once you do what you feel like doing, you’re done for the week. Don’t care about a specific kind of content? No need to do it. And if you change your mind, you can catch up on almost everything later when you DO have time or if you suddenly gain an interest in other endgame content. For players who want to stay competitive in endgame combat content (player power for raids, dungeons, and PVP), there’s very little *mandatory* tasks to complete periodically:

    1) Earn as much from Torghast as possible each week, up to a very reasonable limit (for materials to build your own personal Legendary item).

    2) Do each week’s Covenant quests to earn new buffs to your abilities and open world hub.

And that’s pretty much it. The rest is up to you. This has been one of the best launches of an expansion pack that WoW has ever had, and I can’t wait to earn each week’s new story content and upgrades. And I’m insanely excited to jump into the new raid with my guild next week!

    See you in Oribos!

Legion was 7/10, BFA 3/10 and this seems to be 6/10ish. As many people have said, music and some area designs are pretty solid. Leveling is too linear. Im really loving this expansion so far. PVP players finally can gear up only by doing PVP, and that's something i was waiting for years. The story is good, i didnt feel bored with it. Gearing up alts is also easier now, however i thought we will be able to skip more of the storyline what we have already had seen.

Torghast, for me is a fantastic piece of content. I love roguelikes and this has been done really well.

A real effort has been put in by the devs to stop handholding and forcing players and allowing them to pick and choose what they want to do. It's too early to make definite conclusion but if you like MMOs this is shaping up to be a good expac so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay so after a few days of playing shadowlands I have to tell it's definetly not my addon. I enjoyed to choose my first quest area on my own in BfA and here its choosen for you. That was dissappointing a bit but I thought "ok, let's just get 60 and see whats next." But then I got quests to go torghast and thats simply diablo 3 portals like if you play season. I'm a person who dont go dungeons or raids (i'm going there later to gather my curve mount IF I like it) because it's not fun for me.. I rather go questing, gathering, doing achievs, exploring, petbattles or collecting mounts tmog from old raids thats why I loved island expeditions what most ppl didnt. ^^ But now I have to go things like Torghast to keep my story going. I also tried the different levelexperience on an alt already and its okay. It's getting fast and you can choose your area but I enjoyed to play story quests again and again but in shadowlands this feels so slow and you cant choose where to begin so I think i will use this method if I level any more alts. I'm not angry about the addon - many people like it, my friends do too but I'm sad because it feels like there's nothing to do for people like me after 60.. at least I got one thing about the addon I like. I love Ardenweald. all quest area's are well designed in generall with their own theme. Shadowlands is worth to give it a try but dont expect to much if you are like me. Expand

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is a return to greatness for the franchise. The content is both accessible and fun for all types of players, and the story actually makes you feel like everything you’re doing is helping to save the Shadowlands. Torghast is one of the best features ever added and makes each experience unique and fun. While there are some issues which can slow down the time it takes to get everything you want, the journey there is still enjoyable.
