You meet some really interesting characters during the game, each with a personal story - make you sure you read various notes nad letters laying around, they were a very interesting read. Some even refer to real historic events making it even more believable. There are some new weapons in the game and new enemies making it feels fresh even if the gameplay is identical.
The only cons are that the game is too short, and the locations were less varied that in TNO. Most of the time you see gray/brown depressing locations in a medieval-esque style.

An otherwise perfect expansion to one of the most underrated titles of 2014.

A year after "The New Order", we are introduced to a 1946 setting with are well known protagonist Blazkowicz, who helps you blast through each level killing those who stand in your way. The Old Blood is a nostalgic-like trip back to the 80's, branching out with superb graphics and Nazi shredding goodness.

Context: I paid $12.50 for this game, and my expectations depend on price.
I had a lot of fun playing this game, and I recommend it to everyone. It takes the concept of The New Order but removes all of the unskippable story **** Just get in there and start killing things as if this were some kind of game and the goal was to have fun instead of reading journal entries from people I don't

I had a lot of fun playing this game, and I recommend it to everyone. It takes the concept of The New Order but removes all of the unskippable story **** Just get in there and start killing things as if this were some kind of game and the goal was to have fun instead of reading journal entries from people I don't care about. That annoying mechanic of using a welder on everything is gone. This game's stupid gimmick involves climbing up certain walls using pipes because the game designers wanted something similar to a ladder but significantly less fun. Thankfully, the gimmick is kept to a minimum, and it doesn't stop the game from being enjoyable.

What happened to video games? Why is it so rare to find a game that isn't filled with **** The first hour of Doom 3 involved walking around and figuring out wtf was going on. Quake 4 has ungodly amounts of crap story and driving segments. The original Quake would have been an utter failure if the game stopped halfway through and forced players to pretend it was a role playing game for an hour.

I was oh so excited! I didn't watch any walkthrough or easter egg hunting, and found EVERYTHING. The start was a bit bland and boring but further on, **** got real. Phantom zombies? I did NOT expect that. I loved the ending boss cause it was challenging and you needed to throw everything you could at it. And there. My review. I seriously recommend to play this BEFORE The New Order, if you're not a Full-Time Wolfenstein player. But, you can choose whatever order you want. 10 out of bloody 10. Expand

The old blood takes you back to that classic setting while maintaining the new gameplay mechanics and graphics.

Some stealth parts are too unforgiving on the hardest difficulties, and the checkpoint system makes for some repetitive shooting galleries as after some heavy encounters with tough enemies, the last standing Nazi would kill you, so you have to re-run the whole level. There is no waypoint, that's actually cool, but sometimes you get stuck not knowing what to do.

Despite those details, Wolfenstein Old Blood is a masterpiece. The story and villains are memorable, and BJ blazkowitz never losses his charm or his passion for killing Nazis.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Amazing game that came out of the blue.

I am a big fan of the Wolfenstein series and when I finished Wolfenstein: The New Order, I thought that was it for a while. But then, out of the blue, came Wolfenstein: The Old Blood.

This game takes place in the events before The New Order, in an alternative history. It is 1946 and you still have a chance to stop Nazi Germany from winning the war. The story itself is a little disappointing and, by far, the weakest in the series. It is just about infiltrating Castle Wolfenstein and obtain a top-secret folder which reveals the location of a German scientist and mastermind, General Deathshead and some sort of secret special weapon.

Deathshead is the one responsible for developing superweapons that give Germany the advantage in the war, eventually winning it. You learn that a secret weapon is being produced and you set out to destroy it. It eventually appears to be some kind of zombie-creating gas. In the end, you find the weapon, which spawned/produced some sort of abomination monster thing, and, of course, murder his ass.

In the core, this game is just Wolfenstein: The New Order. It plays exactly the same and follows the same mechanics, controls, skill system, collectibles and cover. The exception is the pipe, which you can use as one big melee weapon, or as two nun chuck-like bars to fight dual handed.

The campaign in Wolfenstein: The Blood is a little short for my liking, for the simple story this game has, it could be expected, but still I hoped for a little more. For me, it redeemed itself with the excellent cut scenes the game offers, those enhanced the story dramatically.

In terms of graphics, they are the same as The New Order, but a little more polished. The explosions and bullet impacts have improved tough. Also, when talking pixels, I really liked the various Nightmare levels in which you play in 3D first person of the game, trough the pixelated old-school levels of the Wolfenstein 3D game. It was really fun to see a highly polished gun, firing on 2D pixels. The Sound design is the same as the original game.

What sets this game apart is its excellent combat encounters. The action is even better in this game than in The New Order. Fights are challenging, some new enemies are introduced like Nazi zombies (yeah boy) and overall, it just feels a lot more intense and balanced out. There are some stealth sections, which actually work, in comparison to The New Order, and the next moment, you go guns blazing, like you are used to.

The level design is excellent in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Combine this with the fantastic combat, as described earlier, and you are good to go. Every level was fun to play and felt rewarding. I was just really pleasantly surprised when scouring trough, the levels and the ease in which you go through them.
The new added challenge maps are also a lot of fun to play and, although hard as bricks, they are doable with the right practice. I think the most fun I had with this game, came from the challenges.

Overall, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a nice addition to the series and, so far, the best in terms of combat, in my honest opinion.

Definitely recommend trying it out for yourself.

Just a very well done expansion pack. Fantastic gun play/really well done, tight level design. Incredibly refreshing playing this after Wolfenstein 2. Wolfenstein 2 should have taken more notes from this in relationship to level design, honestly.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an adventure game first-person shooter developed by MachineGames studio and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is a stand-alone expansion pack in the Wolfenstein series, and a prequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Wolfenstein's dynamic and extremely intensive gameplay pulls in from the very first seconds of the game and doesn't give up for a long time. It is enjoyable, because of some reasons. First of all, graphics is amazing. I believe it is perfect example of the "next generation" visual experience. Secondly, background music and sounds effects are at a high level, so the feeling of shooting is incredibly pleasant. Moreover, every nationality speaks its own language, which means, the main character, American W. J. Blazkowicz speaks English and German Nazis speaks German. Thirdly, the alternative course of history is elaborated. It is based not only on presented story, but also on a mass of additional letters, notes and maps. Another things are well developed difficulty levels. Very easy level is trivial and uber mode (very hard level) is overwhelmingly difficult. unfortunately, some bosses are not at a challenging level, but are at the "dark souls" level. MachineGames included into the game zombies, which in recent times has become trite and boring. It seems to me that the problem of this product is its plot. In my opinion, the plot is trivial and casual. Lasts but not least are secret rooms, collectibles, achievements and Easter Eggs. In every chapter, there are many of them, which persuade to complete the game once again.

All in all, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is an awesome game. I can't give ten, because the plot disappointed me. However, I don't appreciate the plot, I really recommend this fascinating game.

TNO does not only create an incredibly dark and threatening utopia, it also tells a compelling story about characters you can and will care about. Unfortunately this standalone add on "The Old Blood" (TOB) does neither: the story is a return to the paths Wolfenstein took often before, i.e. Nazis chasing after a paranormal approach to world domination. The companions you meet along the way are pale and, frankly, negligible. What TOB does well though is bring back the mechanics from TNO, including a number of tricky and quite tough to beat enemies as well as minor puzzles required to advance in the levels. TOB looks, sounds and feels like TNO which is a good thing if you enjoyed TNO's gunplay, AI behavior and art style.

If you're looking for an FPS with the story and immersion levels of TNO, TOB might not be able to fully deliver. If, however, you're looking for an old-school shooter that sets itself apart from the usual QTEs and scripted Hollywood-type shooters, TOB will not disappoint.

I got that and more. W:TOB is a fun game, and if you enjoyed RTCW or more recent Wolfenstein (Raven Studios), this is a pitch-perfect reinterpretation of that creepy/campy atmosphere. Old Blood is a good expansion to a great game. I wanted more Wolfenstein, and that’s exactly what I got here.
