Game is receiving bad reviews because of issues with servers on the launch day (due to the massive users concurrence). This happened even to Diablo 3 and not represent the quality of the game.
I could appreciate Act 1 in the early access and the game looks really promising.
I set a 10 to bring a little bit of balance here...

The game is good and has potential. But story is made with hurry, and the game has a lot of bugs (mostly passives not working) and is not really balanced. Maybe in some months goes better

Wolcen Lords of Mayhem is cast in a similar vein to Diablo. On the plus side its game play is enjoyable, its interface sensible and mostly easy to use. The environments are varied, colourful and well rendered and the enemies including boss creatures, creative and interesting. Cut scenes are well done too and generously sprinkled through the game.

The environments are varied, colourful and well rendered and the enemies including boss creatures, creative and interesting. Cut scenes are well done too and generously sprinkled through the game.

On the downside, there are LOTS of bugs in this game. Enemy targeting is at times "off". The character literally gets stuck on points in a map forcing you to repeat an area. The game took me back to the first episode even though I'd reached the second. Thankfully there was a fix of sorts which required editing a game file. It worked but still who expects that. Lastly the game crashed more than a few times on shut down and locked up so far once during game play.

I found using potions, such as health and magic, a real issue. Either there's yet another bug or some really impractical decisions have been made. Potions even when equipped often take time to show up in the interface and you simply can't use them in the interim. When you do they often fail to offer a significant effect or sometimes just don't work until you mash the Q or W keys several times.

This is a substantial shortcoming that badly undermines game play when you are facing off against hordes of creatures or bosses. The result is a frustrating grind where you repeat some sequences over and over and luck sees you through. I can see why people have not rated this game, game play is poorly balanced, in part because of this.

I really feel this game URGENTLY needs patching and perhaps it was released prematurely? Wolcen has so much promise, if the list of bugs were fixed I'd be unreserved in my praise.

    As it stands 4/10.

Ok, now let's talk about what made like the game despite the thing I've said here, the game has a solid gameplay, great sound design, and a skill tree mechanic that is outstanding, the liberty that the game gives you to create your builds is amazing, you can make characters from a simple warrior to a gunslinger mage, one of the best mechanics in this game is that there's no class! yes, you can choose what your first weapon and ability will be, but that does not limit you in which kind of weapon/armor/skills you can have, the story of the game (although it's not finished) is intriguing and interesting, and last but not least the visuals, the game uses the "Cryengine" (as the name suggests, the same one as crysys), which gives Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem the best ARPG graphics I've ever seen (at least until Diablo IV is out). This game is still a mess. It is not optimized and runs like garbage. Furthermore, servers are unstable and devs got nothing but excuses (apparently, it is our fault that we want to play the game). Skills are not balanced and the game in general is full of bugs.

Avoid. But in a year when it's $15 and has more content.

When we finished playing, my own progress was gone and I am stuck with low level at the point that my friend finished. There are many cases like this.
Interface is so bare-bones that it hurts, no quality of life solutions, everything in this game screams that it is unfinished, rushed and that the devs stopped caring and just poorly copy-pasted ideas form other, similar games. This game is so frustrating to play that me and my friends have uninstalled and hidden this game in our libraries.
This is well below average and took care to note the names of the developers so I don't buy anything from them in the future.
Don't bother with this title. Get Grim Dawn or POE, which are much worth Your time.
People who give this title 10/10 or something more than 5/10 must be so used to getting screwed by the developers that they don't even notice anymore. Stop paying for unfinished garbage like this game!

Full of bugs, graphics not as good as it could be for cry engine, the storyline is horrible. I played the betas and i am hugly disappointed by this game. It has been released way too early. The story isnt even finished, that release is a work-in-progress.

The game also suffers from logic errors in the storyline, i were asking myself a lot of times "why are you doing this, it is so obvious that ...". And this took the devs 4 years.

But, the game it is now wasnt developed 4 years, two maybe, but definitly not four. The game had some transitions in its past. First from open world to more linear levels and then, there is the skill-system, which had a bunch of iterations and with each it got closer and closer to diablo 3. The reason i wanted the game back in the days was, that it is NOT diablo 3. Now i have a mix of diablo 3 and path of exile and not even a good one.
The reason for that, they tried to be as flexible as a path of exile, the downside is, they werent able to proper balance it. People do have problems with certain bosses, because of their builds. The user have no feedback, if their chosen build is any good or not. There are also the skills, the whole skill-system feels like being stoped after 80% is done. There are some details that would greatly improve the gameplay. For example seeing the level of the skills without clicking on each and every one of them, or if you choose the "+10% average damage" modifier, it realy is being increased by 10% and not just two like in my case, because they do some fancy math there, which the user cant see. Also provide more information, if something increases the helth of a summon... how much is the increase ? There are a bunch of modifiers, that have no real explanation what are the changes in numbers, not even after you have chosen them, you cant see it.

All things considered, i had high hopes, got hughly disappointed and the game is far behind of what it could have been.
They need to fix all those bugs, the plot stoppers where you have to restart the game in order to go on, fix the plot holes where its just not logical, finish he work done on the skills and the passive tree.

Another year would have been a good idea, this release was way to early and now we are all beta testers.

The skill customization and passive tree are both very promising and I think if this game adds content in the way that something like Path of Exile does, it will be a good game. On the negative side - holy cow what an absolute dumpster fire this game turned out to be at launch. I will rewrite my review in the future if things change. This game was RUSHED out of beta with what was clearly ZERO testing internally outside of the beta tested items.

The game is OOZING bugs. There are bugs that cause your stash items to disappear, your dyes and transmogs to disapear, bugs that were known in beta that let people dupe items and gold (that the devs have now threatened to ban for), half the passive tree literally doesn't work, ailments are broken (besides rend), there are nodes on the passive tree that give 100x the bonus they are supposed to, the server was down for literally 2 days after less than a day at launch, monsters dont spawn in act 3 half the time and if they do they just stand still, side zones requiring you to kill monsters but not enough spawn to get the rewards, spells do not scale into endgame at all, the game feels clunky, input commands aren't registered, potions do not get used half the time you try and use them, the game wont let you rearrange your items sometimes, it takes several clicks to sell an item sometimes, the stat screen gets completely bugged out sometimes, the list is JUST TOO long.

Do not buy this dumpster fire AT LEAST until the devs have done their job and release an actual playable release version.

However, once you get to the late game you quickly begin to realize that many of the underlying systems are heavily flawed at their cores. This includes itemization, power and speed scaling, the hour by hour gameplay loop, level design, and so on and so forth.

In the end Wolcen just doesn't compare to the established ARPG titles and would require a fundamental overhaul if it was to compete with the PoE and Diablo franchises. With all the bugs, exploits, inconsistent terminology and unfinished online-play, it feels like Wolcen in its current state is at best a very mediocre ARPG that should still be in alpha.

x)Skills dont buffer or cue up, making the gameplay very clucky, this means you have to spam the same skills alot of times for them to work, since if ur in another animation the action input doesent register, this makes combos and the general flow of battle super clunky and slow (same goes for potions)
    x) ALOT of tooltip errors, missing info in skills, hard to understand what exactly does what
    x) cant open inventory when rewieving the mega big quest reward screen, so its hard to choose what reward to take since u cant compare to what you already have

this is just to name a few on the top of my head.

Also the transform skill, aspect thing, is super lame, it does almost no damage and seems to have no purpose, its just a flashy transformation, should be completly removed imo if not removed atleast up its damage and make it with only 1-2 active skills, its to much with 6 skills with the clunky combat system.

*Basically, I paid for a game I couldn't play for the first 48 hours after launch.

I never understand this. Even companies like Blizzard have problems with launches, so I suppose an Indie company with a small group of devs would, too, though this makes no sense. I guess it's a question of how much money they want to spend on infrastructure coupled with the prediction of the initial player base.

*There are multiple major and minor bugs in this game.

This one I can't really forgive. When I spend my hard-earned money on a game, I expect the basic premise that they advertise/claim to work and perform accordingly. I have no interest in purchasing a game that doesn't work from the onset, or that requires multiple patches to even get it to the starting line. This is simply false advertisement. For a game that's been in development since 2015 (i.e. 4+ years), I would expect ALL of the major bugs to be fixed come launch day. The price was also increased a week or so before launch, from $30 to $40. That's a stiff price for a game that doesn't function at 100%.

*But the studio developing it is small, only 13 or so devs.

Consider that Condor (Blizzard North) made Diablo in about a year with a staff of around 10 people, facing bankruptcy and *luckily* were acquired in a deal with Blizzard. They had no kickstarter, and received a woefully small budget of $300k to make Diablo, but yet managed to put out a product that WORKED from day one. So no, this excuse doesn't hold much water.

Buyer beware. Steam (Valve Corporation) is very resistant to giving refunds due to their 2 hour playtime policy. Even though there were launch issues, I stuck with Wolcen since the story and gameplay were pretty good, even through all the bugs (b/c I really did want to like this game) and then ran headlong into Act 3 and it's bugged encounter leading to a halt in progression.

Also consider that there are multiple negative reports on the Better Business Bureau's website for Valve, and their shady business practices for which they've never replied (did not expect this). You can see that here: https://www.bbb.org/us/wa/bellevue/profile/online-gaming/valve-corporation-1296-27030704/details#all-alerts
