Pelit (Finland)An enjoyable, light simulator. The plane selection (with NATO Fighters mods) makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I just wish the AI was more challenging and that the multiplayer features were better. I also would not mind having proper labels for improved situational awareness. [Dec 2006]

Even though Wings over Europe has a lot of stiff competition from other games, I can’t seem to get the odd ‘leaning at 90 degrees’ sensation out of my head. There’s always a new trick or manoeuvre to attempt in a different mission in a different plane. Maybe someday I’ll figure out how to drop bombs.

PC GamerThe vintage jets are a delight for the eyes, and Wings over Europe can challenge your air combat maneuvering and bombing skills as well as many A-list flight sims do. [Aug 2006, p.90]

BoomtownSitting, uneasily as it does, between pure bred sim and arcade flyer, it should serve well as an introduction to the genre for those who've yet to reel through their first barrel roll, while the more hardcore player should find some challenge with the difficulty level ramped up.
-
Instead of balancing on the line between arcade game and simulation, the game tries and fails to be both, giving the whole package a strange split personality that does nothing to endear you to it.
-
Essentially, this is "Strike Fighters" in hotpants and platform heels. [Dec 2006, p.95]
-
PC FormatA great flyer for beginners, but not enough new features for the hardcore fan. [Dec 2006, p.114]
-
PC Zone UKLooks and plays like a game from 1999. [Christmas 2006, p.93]
