Beautiful graphics, atmospheric music and sounds, rpg elements and career-like progression. gets repetitive after a few hours, still if you feel like spending some time on a top-down pirate adventure, its good fun! (shouldnt be priced more than 10Euro/USD though)

If you play on a decent population public server, you will need to grind your butt off to get decent gear or you will be fodder for the people who do. Also, if players on the public server you are on have the Black Flag special item they can attack and kill you anywhere even if you have the White Flag special item that normally exempts you from PVP. The Pirate faction seems to be able to ignore your no-PVP status. Say hello to Griefing 101, kids. As the AI is useless against someone who is pimped out and flying the Black Flag (e.g. epic/legendary item-equipped Corvette), watching these people sail into newbie zones killing everyone sucks.

The developer really needs to rethink this approach, and make loot obtainable via means other than mindless grinding pirates.

Nice relaxing, relatively casual game. Reminds me a little of a lightweight mount-and-blade with different combat. smh at Game Spot review - totally ott. The online/coop is stable and worthwhile too.

Some similarities to Sid Meier's Pirates! Not nearly as deep or fun. Strangely enough, these types of games are extremely addicting to me. The action is hard to come by. So far, it's mainly just steering the ship from town to town, trying to make money to upgrade stuff. I will get my money's worth out of this game. Not everyone will.

This is a nice casual game where you can colonize, do sea simple sea batttles, and trade... but most importantly have fun with friends. You can compete against other players, or just play with them.

I like this game, it is calm, and there is no stress like some other multiplayer games or wooden ship battles ones. It is cheap too and has a good quality-price tag. I recommend this

I recommend this only if you want to play with your friends, the magic is in multiplayer... although I play often in single player mode.

I was really looking forward to play this game as it looked like the typical game you could play for hours and get a little addicted too - upgrading your ship and crew, going on a spree to kill pirates etc... unfortunately I was quite disappointed as it felt very repetitive and grindy after a short while, even when playing with a friend (joining a friend's game was also not veryI was really looking forward to play this game as it looked like the typical game you could play for hours and get a little addicted too - upgrading your ship and crew, going on a spree to kill pirates etc... unfortunately I was quite disappointed as it felt very repetitive and grindy after a short while, even when playing with a friend (joining a friend's game was also not very intuitive). I picked it up during a Steam sale, so can't really complain for the price I paid, but after 12 hours of playtime I don't see myself motivated to play more or recommend it. Expand

An alternative to the legendary Pirates! could use its potential way better. Cool war multiplayer is present in this contradictory sailing game but a stereotype is also there in the moments, when no one is left to sink.

Windward’s greatest strength – it’s simplicity resembling Sid Meier’s Pirates! – becomes a weakness when you try to take the relationship with the game to the next level. [08/2015, p.60]

Windward is way too simplistic and repetitive. If Tasharen Entertainment expanded economic system, spiced up the combat and made more interesting quests, things would have been a lot different.
