Very Nice thing to Play. Storyline is just perfect, a little bit sad, but very moving! The First impression was so genuine! I have never felt horrified while playing, despite the fact that you play alone with nobody alive around, only past, that is tragic and unhappy!

Told through vignettes and recollections of each of the Finch family, the game continually takes stylistic detours, and introduces these unique "mini-games", weaving them together with it's storytelling flawlessly to make each scene more impactful and personal, while keeping the game fresh and not monotonous. Lasting about 2-3 hours in length, the game finishes on a satisfying but melancholy note. Overall, Edith FInch is a fantastic story driven experience that's original and innovative, easily becoming one of the best the genre has to offer.

The game introduces entirely new mechanics and ways to tell the story every couple of minutes. It's only 3 hours long, but it's very refreshing. It may not be the best story ever told in video games, but it's not about the story itself, it's about how this story is being presented to the viewer.

The advantage is, that the programmer could focus on the story and atmosphere. The atmosphere begins slow, but after 1 hour it starts to be sad, and it gets worse and worse. This story hit me and remembered me to a sad story of my life. Another thing about the story: there are many creative ideas to tell you stories about how the family member died.
The graphic looks brilliantly, it uses the Unreal 4 engine.
This game is a great experience and you just need 2-3 hours for that, so I can surely recommend to invest so few hours of your life for this experiment.

This is a perfect example of a game that is primarily exploration/story-based that allows for enough creative interactivity to keep the story going. If more so-called "walking simulators" took notes from What Remains of Edith Finch, the genre would be better-viewed on the whole.

This was an incredible experience during the short time that it lasted, but left a somewhat empty after-taste after all is said and done.
Coming into this game, I was immediately drawn in with the amazing graphics. Then I became frustrated with the slow walking, and how unnecessary the woods section under the house was. There was literally nothing there to find, which was a shame.
Finally entering the house I was amazed again, and felt genuinely creeped out by the atmosphere. I saw doors sealed off as if to contain some evil inside. I saw this mix of books - spiritual books, cooking books, the freaking Necronomicon (!) - and my mind concocted imagery of the terrors awaiting me as I was to continue exploring this house of doom. I saw from the family tree on the main menu that none of the people of the Finch family had lived very long, and was saddened but eager to find our their morbid tales.
Oh boy, are the developers of this nasty tale a morbid bunch!
Why did they leave the house so hastily? Was the old woman a witch that had to sacrifice her children and grand-children to some Ancient God she had made a pact with? Was there occult cannibalism involved? Had some sinister demon been conjured which frightened off the family?
Unfortunately none of my initial anticipations were met.
What the story does - and quite well - is retell the morbid endings of these people, and you have to give it to the creators that the house imagery is consistent as far as what you discover goes. The retellings of the demise of the family members are brilliantly executed, using clever means of story-telling to deliver them. It must have taken a lot of work, because they really push the 3D-engine to its limits by making each mini-story unique in presentation.
So while the game is a thrill to play through, it ultimately leaves a dry empty feeling inside, because nothing is actually revealed in regards to the origins of the "Curse", nor is there any connecting thread that makes sense as to why these individuals actually meet such sad fates. It is as if the creators couldn't make sense of their own story, and the deadline was approaching so they just skipped it altogether. I don't want to reveal any spoilers, but to be honest there are none to be found within the game itself either. The game literally reeks of references to some hidden evil that was committed with supernatural forces, but the game chooses to just skip all of that in any conclusive final way.
The Necronomicon on the bookshelf! The creepy history of the family. I was SO disappointed that it all ran out in the sand, and skipped the whole idea of a climactic ending altogether. It is as if the developers grew tired of their own creation towards the end, and just decided to get the game delivered asap. There is a point in the game where one of the characters approach the old mansion during a low tide, and then it just stops there, but you get the feeling that there was supposed to be a section where it is explored, and all is revealed, but it is skipped in the most silly way.
If the game had actually dared to find a resolve bringing all the pieces together in the end, it would have been one of the best interactive story games I have ever played. It doesn't though, so that place still goes to Soma.

Beautiful story told through a game with some very interesting and unique twists and experimentation with narrative perspectives, perceptions etc... so far a very strong game of the year contender because it's been a long time since I got this invested into a game. It really is brilliant.

The graphics, the music, the environmental storytelling, the design of the rooms and furniture.

The graphics, the music, the environmental storytelling, the design of the rooms and furniture. Everything has a place and time. Think Gone Home but with significantly more gripping premise, better storytelling and a more interesting house layout overall. There is a lot to explore and the game manages to create a lot of atmosphere around the local legend of "curse" that plagues the family throughout times. I dont want to spoil so I wont say more than that.

The way the story is told through the eyes of the characters relative to their subjective experience and perception and even with corresponding gameplay mechanics is unlike much I've seen in gaming so far, not completely revolutionary either, but still a very refreshing take. It makes the story surprisingly personal and I grew attached to all the characters almost obliviously.

All in all an amazing game that will make you think, feel and maybe even question some things...

I gave it a ten because games that try to portray stories like this are scarce, and I want to support the production of such titles. This is a very personal game that stays with you after you finish it. It's pretty much a masterpiece of storytelling in my book already

Take a few deep breaths. Call off today's appointments before you take your first steps down the dirt road before you. Because this could be one of those rare experiences which you sit through in one turn. Whether you're very much into interactive storytelling or not, it'll be very hard to not appreciate this little masterpiece. And I say little because, yes, it's short. Even if you want to unravel every little secret which the game has to offer. Still it won't take you more than you'd need to even get past the tutorial of some titles.
But oh what a little trip it is. The storytelling is magnificent. The atmosphere is truly majestic. Mysteries lay hidden around you waiting to be unravelled. And the way the story makes you trace every corner of the house and it's surroundings is truly incredible, mysterious and gripping. You care for what happened to the family and it manages to make you bond with anyone involved in the sad, but at the same time somehow enlightening, trip down the house's mysterious past. In terms of graphics does the game not only look beautiful, but the way it presents every aspect of the family's past is often extremely creative and original. There have been several titles which provide the same kind of style and atmosphere. Take "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter", "Dear Esther", "Everybody's gone to the rapture" and most similarly "Gone Home". All of them made a similar impression on me. Making me think and wonder about the mysteries I witnessed. But none of the above stood as tall as "What Remains of Edith Finch". Tall in mystery. Tall in emotion. Tall in beauty. But mainly tall in storytelling. A title which manages to switch your emotions up and down almost constantly. Mixing sadness and joy into a satisfying yet eerie blend. A level of interactive storytelling which hasn't been reached before in this genre in my opinion and therefore sets the bar very high for upcoming titles of it's kind.

What this team gets and is so often missed by other developers is that in a story driven game, you should tell it in a way that only a game can. Leisurely exploration of the estate is interspersed with stories about the last days of different Finch family members – and these moments show that developers didn’t just proclaim their love for H.P. Lovecraft, Neil Gaiman and other masters of magical realism, they really know that stuff. Giant Sparrow draws you into the little girl’s dreamworld just as easily as it paints a picture of kingly ambitions of a factory worker. [Issue#221, p.81]
