To that guy Explicit1 who saying that no one should put how they feel about a game here on Metacritic, I say you should stop trying to tell people what to write and mind his own damn business!!

As far as the game is concern its around a 5 / 10. I love the Dishonored Series and I wish that Ralph would go back to making AAA Immersive Sims like those and I realize this is a small-budget,

First impression is pretty descent but game turns stale rather quick, skills are uninspired, gunplay isnt all that satysfying and level design is sub par plus there is a lot of reused zones and idead over and over.
I doubt I will be able to finish this game, it gets too boring after 2nd character with not much variation.

This game reminds me of all the vaporware that made me swear off Early-Access games altogether. There's a cool premise, lots of seemingly cool lore, and a good chunk of content. However, if you've played the demo, you've exhausted all of the things that the game has to offer: the plot is pretty barebones, the combat is repetitive and unfun, and anything that made you chuckle or think 'gee, that was cool', is repeated so frequently that you start to wonder why you're playing it. Lest you think the game is simply uninspired, I must warn you that even the core systems are designed to be unpleasant: looting and exploring are tied to consumables (shovels, lockpicks etc) and the loot you find is all generic trash. I'm not being mean, the game itself labels 90% of what you're looting as 'trash' so you know it can safely be sold in town. This means you're often managing your very limited inventory so you can haul literal garbage back to town to sell for a dollar a piece. The other 10% of loot are weapons and charms that are almost certainly weaker than whatever you're using and so you can scrap them to get... lumps of slag you can sell for a dollar a piece.

I honestly don't like leaving bad reviews, but I'm sick of developers taking advantage of the good will that people are willing to give to 'indie' games. I understand development is a difficult and timely process, but charging 40 bucks for a game that has a demo's worth of content is simply unacceptable. I wanted to support studios trying new and interesting things, but this is not it.

The characters are boring and uninspired, the story suffers from a serious lack of pacing and jumps around between the uninteresting characters too frequently to form any kind of attachment to them, the factions and story beats are somewhat unbelievable and it really wears its 2022 politics on its sleeve. As a result, it becomes a chore to play through the game. You'll constantly meet powerful female characters who task you with going to rescue a man who has been kidnapped due to his own sheer incompetence. If the men aren't playing the role of damsel in distress, they're made to be unethical perverts with sex slaves and cartoonishly evil motivations. The gunplay is exceptionally poor, with certain enemies becoming bulletsponges and most powers being fairly useless. If you compare it with a game like Dishonored or Dishonored 2, the shortcomings really become pronounced. The level design is passable, but there are very few alternative pathways that don't consist of climbing some rocks to get the high ground on your enemies. Also, one of the more glaring issues, the levels repeat frequently. There are several mines in the game but they all share the exact same map. There are a bunch of little settlements around the map, but they all share the exact same tileset and do nothing to distinguish them from one another. The only powers that are worth using are designed explicitly for combat. Otherwise, there are really no creative traversal powers or opportunities to use them creatively to bypass obstacles. It plays far more like a twinstick shooter than it does an immersive sim, and judging it by the same metric I would Deus Ex, Dishonored or Prey, I can't help but be left disappointed. I'd give it a 4 for being slightly below average in terms of enjoyment, and that's because I've chosen to be charitable and rate it like I would a twinstick shooter rather than I would an immersive sim. If I were going to rate how it stacks up with its peers, I'd give it a 2 or a 3. It verges on being fun in the early game before you become aware at how many environments repeat ad nauseum, shooting itself in the foot before it can succeed at being a fun experience. Compounded with the issues regarding characterization and story, it gets quite a poor rating from me.

I know this was a labour of love for the devs, and I do very much love Raph Colantonio and I think he's an excellent designer, but this is a really bad example of what he's capable of. All of his previous games felt more enjoyable to play than this one does. My biggest recommendations would be to focus on better, more relatable characters that are less grounded in fiction and trope, and to not focus on procedural generation to pad the amount of content in your game. A few handcrafted levels with variation and real substance are always going to be better than one repetitive map that has procedural elements within.

Weird West is basically Desperados or Hard West with worse story and much worse gameplay. The writing is really thin and strung out; it's a lot of time spent with little going on. There are two problems with Weird West: it takes too long to get to the comparatively good parts and the comparatively good parts are actually pretty bad.

However, since it was Devolver that made this, they don't have the luxury of that excuse. If this game wasn't on GamePass, it would get a 5 from me, but seeing as it is, it is unique enough to warrant experiencing it since it's "free" to anyone who has GamePass. I want to support the first independent project of a wonderful developer - Raphael Colantonio. If you wanted to try Divinity, but you were scared off by the high entry threshold and the massive rpg component - WEIRD WEST is the best the industry has to offer at the moment. Plus of course immersive gameplay is a rarity nowadays.

Immersive sim thing is working, you can build a tower of barrels and climb on it. Also decent parkour, lots of stuff to burn/poison/blow up your enemies/yourself, enemies have some skills too, and can use them during combat. Stealth is ok. Skill tree, loot management, weapon/armor system is ok. As for story, all immersion falls apart because there are 5 characters with small stories, and plot depth with character development are really not there (also that the game world doesn't seem unite, because all locations is a bunch of squared sheets of paper) (also off-screen voice, but i like max payne so i'm cool with that). Firstly, you're playing severe bounty hunter, strong woman, whose close ones was brutally injured, and even killed, and you're really starting to fall into her and her story, then it suddenly ends and you're becoming a man-bear-pig, with no skills, weapons or any loot from previous character(btw this no problem for tlou2 fans). Roleplay in dialoges is also very weak, you don't really know what your hero is saying, you only choose the information to be conveyed by him/her, and always only 2 outcomes for main, for side quests often 1. You see, I really don't get the point to create a 20-50 hour long game if you don't have interesting story for that duration, instead creating a pile of monotonous little stories with talking heads instead of well-written character, and routine straightforward side quests with at most 3 quest structures - bring something, save someone, bounty-hunt (btw you can kill almost every npc in this game, wich is undoubtedly great roleplay experience). That's why same assests and dynamit throwing mechanic is starting to trigger people after 10 hours into the game, because game world wasn't properly filled. You can let off story problems for games with wealth of visual content, but it's not that case. Seems like game developers made another game with quantity over quality and couldn't keep the balance. Please someone tell them, that we don't need enormous map to explore it for 50 hours, we just need solid product, where everything comes together and works. Graphics and color pallette is borderlands-like, which is not my thing, but ok. Expand

I was hyped to deep dive the lore only to find the game doesn't even have people talking about it. Combat is either WAY too hard or WAY too easy. I either find myself not using any heals, or items, maybe one ability. Couple minutes later? Boss is over here 1 shotting me. It's just so wishy-washy and it seems like they really couldn't nail what they were going for, so everything became spread too thin.

This is further exacerbated by the story being split into multiple characters, who all have the same stats and weapon loadouts, and for the most part have the same skills. It's really lackluster and losing hours of progress to further a story that seems to NOT be the focus of the game, isn't fun. There is a "recruit previous character" option usually, but the game makes it a point to try and turn them against eachother. You cannot switch characters at will, and the characters that join your party are not controlled by you. If they die, they die.

There's really no "immersive sim" elements here. You can't just put one or two mechanics in that have that genre style and call it an immersive sim. I feel more immersed playing desert bus simulator than this buggy, repetitive, unbalanced mess.

If this had been a 20$ game I probably wouldn't be hitting the thumbs down, but the game really doesn't have enough focus to be worth paying 40$ for.

Oh, and "choices matter" just boils down to you getting a message from some person saying "thank you for helping me" or "im coming for you" it's really barebones.

I love Devolver, but I honestly think it was a mistake publishing this. Feels very Lionhead, Fable scenario.

First of all, design is stunning. The unique comic art style is quite bold and along takes the lead in vibe setting, while complimenting colour palette is eye catching.

The introduction phase of the game is intuitive and doesn’t leave the newcomer struggling, yet, it takes it easy and lets the player soak in the atmosphere of setting. Its pleasant, that developers didn’t follow modern trend of games literally pulling players immediately into action without proper prelude just for the sake of being engaging. User interface and hints are very intuitive, colourful and well animated. Asking user to press escape key to read some hint then to press escape key to close it is perfect example since it’s not pulling out the player from action mid game, yet assures user will read information at some point. Default key binds are amazing and didn’t have a need to reassign anything so far. Intentionally won’t cover storyline for this review not to fall under spoiler, however so far it has been able to keep me interested and reading every dialogue available. As a person who walked through Red Dead Redemption 2 completely I can definitely pledge this game easily beats Read Dead Redemption 2 storyline, which would be predictable, repeatable, lacking logic and infantile in comparison to storyline of this masterpiece.

This game is definitely going to be in a handful list of memorisable games for me. I would be really humbled and heart touched to see project growing and evolving without taking detours to toxic practices, such as NFTs, micro-transactions, packs, cash grabs and other practices which ruin gaming industry for both players and developers. Instead, I believe physical merch, and a dozen of DLCs would impact this marvellous project quite positively.

Weird West is a game that players can grow to love, provided you can forgive some of its issues and design decisions. The idea of going through five different protagonists with somewhat connected stories is fascinating, but the resetting of items and skills when changing characters doesn't contribute to the desire to explore. The lands don't vary much given the setting, but the changes based on your actions are fun to see. The combat is fine, but the enemy behavior can sometimes be laughable, while the presentation teeters between amazing and average. It's worth checking out if you're prepared to invest some time waiting for its magic to hit.
