This is one of the rare few games that I've played for hundreds of hours, complained A LOT about how the devs could do better, but play for another few hundred hours. The maps are great, music, CHARACTER VOICES, enemies, specials.. everything is so canon and true to the Warhammer fantasy setting.

Warhammer Vermintide 2 does everything - even - better than the first game. The new Twitch Mode is also really fun and I've spend way to many hours watching streams instead of playing. I might be somewhat of a fan boy, but the game made me that.

    Game of the year.

The co-op team game play is fun. The maps are great. The mobs are challenging. The visuals are top notch. The audio keeps you on the edge. The conversations between the heroes are funny. The new loot system is well made. It feels like you're in a Warhammer world. Yes, the game has a few small bugs but they don't break the game and the developers are fixing

Yes, the game has a few small bugs but they don't break the game and the developers are fixing and patching the game every week. The amount of content you get from this $25 game rivals most AAA titles.

Very happy with how much the game has improved over the first, we have 15 classes to play all with their own talent trees and abilities, a much more in depth weapon/loot system, better levels, music is fantastic really gets the blood pumping as the horde approaches, visuals have gone up a huge notch to the point where I can't play the first game as it just looks like rubbish.

I find this game very amusing, it`s hard and forces you to stay with your team to survive. Graphics are much improved compared to previous part and it runs very good on i7 @ 4.2GHz + GeForce 1070 OC with almost maxed out settings.

I have an i7 3770k with an R9 290X(Lesser specs than what they supposedly have) and I can consistently get 90-120 fps even in large battles. I also have friends with even lower specs than myself that haven't had any issues with performance once they got into the proper preset for their equipment.

Conclusion: Because this game is such a joy to play in conjunction with almost infinite replayability I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves rpgs, melee combat, or the left 4 dead franchise. It is only $30 and blows most AAA games out of the water. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Very fun game, Left 4 Dead like, except here the melee weapon is the primary weapon and the secondary weapon a firearm of some sort. You also have special abilities, talents, a crafting system. Overall it's a very fun and challenging experience. I'm loving it!

Without a doutb GOTY so far, I see little chance any game will top this. Why? 100 hours of content, cheap, around 20 to 30 dollars, amazing graphics, sound, voice acting. It got the entire package without micro transactions.

This is awesome. Funny, quick, challenging, it's a big improvemnt from the previous chapter. Optimezed for multi core CPUs (ryzen) since you can also select the number of thread to be used. It runs very well at etreme settings without any drop @2560x1080 with a Ryzen 1700 and a 1070 (both clocked). Buy it.

The game is lots of fun, even better than the first one. Sure, there were (and probably still are) some bugs, but the developer is spending time and fixing them, so that's cool too. Also, yes, some parts are hard, sometimes you play with other people who suck, but a lot of time it's pretty great fun. I've put almost 40 hours into this game so far and I look forward to playing more.

It's amazing how such a simple concept can be so much fun! You plow through hordes and hordes of rats, chaos warriors and beastmen to complete unique goal of level. And there are plenty of levels to choose from. Mechanics of the game are working perfectly, no glitches, no bugs, just pure pleasure. With every level started you feel more and more immersed into the world of Warhammer.

I'm not sure why but I was sceptical about this game but every reservation I had has been put to rest. I was expecting a decent game that was largely a rehash of the first but it is truly improved in both obvious and subtle ways.

I was concerned when I saw the same hero characters would be returning but the addition of sub classes, skill trees and abilities makes for a much wider range of play styles than before.

The loot is acquired in a much fairer way. I'm not sure about just having a 'power' stat but there's plenty of extra effects and buffs that you get with non common weapons.

There's the same number of missions (13) but this time each level is fully fleshed out so there's no glorified horde mode missions. It's a matter of the same amount of content on paper but in reality these's quite a bit more.

A perhaps underappreciated area of improvement is the increase in number of 'non-special' enemy types. As well as adding enemies like the warpfire thrower the game adds lots of subtly different enemies that deepen the melee combat. For example, mixing in plague monks, berserkers and shielded enemies into the horde forces you to develop your tactics beyond just swinging an axe at a large mob. This also makes the ranged combat more tactical as instead of just thinning out a horde you can target the more high level threats and avoid wasting ammo on shielded enemies.

Blocking also seems to be done much better this time round, especially when blocking multiple smaller opponents.

There's a couple of bugs, mainly to do with bosses getting stuck sometimes but it's not much of an issue and they can fix a lot of that later down the line. Performance is good for me and only dips when there's a ridiculous amount of enemies on screen.

The graphics are great but more importantly the art design is a lot more interesting and varied this time around. There's a lot of nice vistas and lighting effects.

The community is also pretty nice, not met anyone who was a prick yet. They could add short cuts for certain shout outs such as 'group up' which would be useful in quick play.

Overall a pretty damn good game and easily worth the price imo. Just be aware that the game is designed to be replayed multiple times just like the first one. There's also little story, it's just about the combat really although there is a good amount of voice lines, environmental story telling and text pieces that provide some good context should you wish to look. Just don't expect the last of us. I'd happily pay full price for the game but the lower price tag makes it a lot easier to convince friends to try it out which is great for such a co-op focused game.

I had pretty low expectations picking this title up as I never played Vermintide 1 and didn't expect much for $30 but I must say even if I went in with high expectations I think this game would have exceeded them. You are essentially getting a AAA game with no micro transactions and no further need to spend additional money to enjoy it which is quite refreshing in this day of age for gaming. It is being compared to Left4Dead but in medieval times and I'd say that's accurate. I'm having lots of fun playing it and it never fails to provide a challenge.

One thing I really wanted to highlight with this game though is loot boxes. All other game studios should take note of how these guys implemented loot boxes. Essentially you play through missions and at the end of successfully completing each mission you get a loot box. How good this loot box is will then increase based on how well you completed the level as well as level difficulty (recruit, veteran, champion, etc). You get a bonus for quick play, collecting tomes (3 per level which increase your loot crate value by 50%, 100% gets you to next level of loot box), collecting grims (2 per level at 75% each but reduces your max health by 25% per book for the rest of the level making completion more difficult), collecting loot dies (25% and placed randomly in the level) and a small bonus ranging from anywhere from 10% to 100% (not positive on these exact values for the bonus though). These loot boxes then upgrade through tiers (commoners, merchant, soldier, emperor). You then get three items per loot box. No real money is involved and it is all earned through grinding in the game. It keeps it fresh, fun, and exciting while not taking any hit to your wallet. I'm really hoping this is something I see more of from games in the future.

In the end I highly recommend picking this game up as for $30 it has a tremendous amount of value. If you are into the hack and slash co-op pve against hordes of monsters, this is a no brainer.

If I were to compare Vermintide II to other titles, I would choose Left 4 Dead and Diablo, with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic coming in a close third place due to how combat feels. The game will eventually wear you down with its repetitiveness, because replaying scenarios is embedded in its design, but before it happens you’ll spend dozens of fun hours with it. [05/2018, p.42]
