Disclaimer: I haven't played the first game in the series, so I'm not sure how much better this game is compared to its prequel. This is an unbiased, genuine review of this game by a casual gamer.

After beating each map on the lowest difficulty with a mixture of a few buddies and random players, my impression of the game is that it is essentially an L4D2 clone, but with a strong emphasis on melee combat and a lot of "left-click" button mashing.

Anyone who rates the game 9+ is likely bloating their vote since the game really isn't that special. A lot of the elements of the game were copied or adapted from L4D2. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep myself playing this game since I've already gotten tired of L4D2 after pouring in hundreds of hours into it, but I'll see if playing at higher difficulties will make it more interesting.

This game comes with a leveling and equipment system that requires you to put in a little effort to properly gear up your heroes to make maps easier to play. This is probably the only factor that differentiates the game from L4D2, but it is extremely simplified and nowhere near RPG-level complex.

Compared to L4D2 where you would play through long campaigns consisting of several maps in each,
Vermintide 2's maps are designed to be played individually and rewards are granted at the end of each one. This makes sessions a lot shorter and quicker to digest. Each map (with the exception of the final one) lasts roughly around 20-30 minutes, but that is a loose estimate.

The maps also contain bonus items you can find which grant an EXP boost at the end of the map and promote a little bit of exploring. But they're always in the same spots, so once you know where they are, it's no mystery anymore.

From what I feel so far, the "real game" only begins once you've beaten all of the maps on the lowest difficulty and have progressed to the next one, when more strategy becomes necessary and you can't just Rambo your way through the maps. I would say that this mimics L4D2 in terms of difficulty level. If you've played the Expert level maps in L4D2, you would know what I'm talking about.

Playing at higher difficulties or playing "Heroic Deeds" (which are similar to modifier maps you find and play in a game like Path of Exile) is a lot more interesting than just grinding through maps. Mistakes are a lot more punishing and you can't afford to die too much.

(Keep in mind that there is no PvP mode in this game. It is strictly co-op only, at least, for the moment.)

Ultimately, the only thing you're doing in this game is playing through 13 different maps to grind EXP and upgrade your gear in order to, well, replay them again, but easier. I suppose it's like replaying L4D2 campaigns over and over again, but at least you can feel good about getting better gear and playing harder maps.

Some of the reviews here and on Steam complained about the matchmaking and how toxic players or hosts exist, but I certainly didn't get that vibe. If anything, the players I've queued up with have been pretty friendly and cooperative so far.

For the time being, I think 7 is a fair rating for this game, and the $30 USD price tag is a decent launch price for this game (although it could be a little cheaper).

In essence: Vermintide 2 doesn't really bring anything new to the cooperative horde-killing table, but it certainly offers new environments to those who have gotten tired of playing L4D2. If you desire some fresh, casual co-op fun with your buddies, you've found it, but expect a lot of repetition again.

I couldn't get past 3 hours of play time in this game. I had to essentially turn the majority of the graphical features off, not because they didn't work but because it felt like I was looking through a window that someone had vomited on while riding a roller coaster. Once you get past that part of the game you'll find some clunky mess that really just isn't that fun to play. The gameI couldn't get past 3 hours of play time in this game. The game forces you along without any story and basically its a hunt for 5 books that dictate your experience and gear (which really isn't much of anything) and then you rinse and repeat. I was really confused why i wasn't having fun when i played this and I ended up roping some friends into trying it and they confirmed it as well. This is just lacking something that I cant quite but my finger on but it just "feels" bad.... Expand

although very very fun to play, this game has severe performance issues, like memory for example, 8Gb will never let you play this game properly, and even with 16Gb there used to be memory leaks, they fixed that now, but 8Gb is still waaay to little for this game and that's a problem.
any game that's not a triple A title should never require more than 8Gb

Vermintide was an enjoyable Left 4 Dead clone, but this sequel brings nothing new to the table except some new monsters. I'll keep it short- the worst part about Vermintide 2 is the untapped potential that could make it a critically-acclaimed masterpiece. This co-op FPS suffers hugely from player attrition due to a lack of content and abysmal DLC with laughable cosmetics. To give an example, one "rare" cosmetic in the game is a complete copy of the base helmet for the character, except a piece of metal in the front is a square rather than a diamond.

All Fatshark needs to do is create more varied weapons, add at least ~10 cosmetics for each class (with color variants), one more fully developed character (halfling, please), more interesting ultimate abilities (such as teleportation, an AOE heal over time, etc) and add about 3-4 new maps. It goes without saying, they also need to do some heavy bug-fixing and add dedicated servers. If they were to provide all of that in the next three or four free updates, then the game would be in a fantastic spot.

Сразу скажу что не фанат Вархаммера какого бы то ни было. А так. Что можно сказать? ИМХО совместно с друзьями только играть. В соло идти смысла не вижу. Да даже с друзьями она не такая интересная.

The focus of this game is combat. Because the story is practically non-existent (in addition to being horrible) and what you don't understand (unless you've played the other games). Warhammer + Left 4 dead = Hours of co-op fun. Highly recommend playing this through with your friends, as its really fun and worth the time. However, hordes and hordes of the same enemies can get a little bit tedious and some more variety in enemies would make for a more interesting 50th playthrough of the same level.

Expand

    - Enemy's animations when about to hit you are inconsistent, making blocking them on time very hard and down to luck
    - Semi-frequent disconnects
    - DLCs are too expensive for what little content you get in them
    - Very little class customization and not much depth in each career

All of these pretty much force me to only play one class to fully enjoy the game.
Despite that, it's cheap on sale and does have its positives

+ Can buy for £6 on sale
+ Good voice acting and mostly good sound design
    + Is Warhammer Fantasy
+ Has some workshop mod support
    + Good amount of settings
    + Good maps
+ Fun when playing with friends (and only with friends)

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is worth its money. Great, brutal action, beautiful locations, tolerable (but not without problems, of course) network code and fascinating gameplay in the company of friends. What else do you need from cooperative action?

If I were to compare Vermintide II to other titles, I would choose Left 4 Dead and Diablo, with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic coming in a close third place due to how combat feels. The game will eventually wear you down with its repetitiveness, because replaying scenarios is embedded in its design, but before it happens you’ll spend dozens of fun hours with it. [05/2018, p.42]

Vermintide 2 evolved far beyond a Left 4 Dead imitation. Using familiar concepts, Fatshark lovingly crafted one of the best cooperative action games in recent years.
