    Terrible and lifeless grind to progress in the game that takes ages unless you use your money, which is what they want.
    Matches have no life in them. No thinking. just two teams spawn on opposite sides and go at each other with objectives in the middle to capture.

    You need to perform exceptionally well to make a decent amount of in-game money, and if you fail, you get taxed and suffer.
    Also if you perform very well, you get treated unfairly in the matchmaking system by being put in matches with vehicles that are higher technology than yours.
    For example lets say you use a late WW2 tank and do very well. Next game you'll likely be placed with post WW2 tanks made in 1960s.
    Because the game devs doesn't want you to do too well.
    The game devs don't want to implement a rank/skill based matchmaking system that would be more fair to players.
    So to combat the well performing players, they simply get put in a highly unfair match with vehicles superior to theirs.    … Expand

    The game has potential and it has amazing graphics and vehicle selection, the problem is it's bait to get you into a infinite grind. They'll release a new aircraft or modern tank to attract new players and then trap them in a grind.

    I have 700 hours in this game and don't have 1 jet or post war tank aside from my premium, wich is supposed to be a shortcut to grinding but isn't because    The game has potential and it has amazing graphics and vehicle selection, the problem is it's bait to get you into a infinite grind.     And with each update the game because more and more unplayable, you have to kill half the enemy team now to break even on your vehicles repair cost so the devs can force players to buy premium accounts.

    The developers think you're stupid and they'll attempt to gaslight you or sweep criticism under the rug, don't let them win, play another game.    … Expand

Rather than fostering open dialogue and genuine engagement, the developer seems content with pushing their own agenda at the expense of player satisfaction.     I returned after some years to the game. The grind is horrific. The income of game currencies is so small, that buying a premium account plus premium vehicles is mandatory, and even then you can make a loss after being in the winning team. As a less than average player I have no chance against veterans flooding the low rank games so they can earn some in-game currencies. Vehicles areI returned after some years to the game. Vehicles are unbalanced, especially the ones from the developers country are totally overpowered. Premium vehicles are better than tech-tree ones. Unfair advantages like camo-brushes can be bought with real money. The in-game market let you exchange vehicles with a special currency, gaijin coins, that is a 1:1 with real money, e.g € or $. Some vehicles are listed with up to 2000,- GC!
    All in all I can't recommend the game. The developers are not listening to the player base but try to press every cent possible out of the player. Do yourself a favor and avoid this game.    … Expand

    I have been playing this game since the very beginning. It is by far my most played game of all time and I have spent thousands of euros on it over the years. It is one of my all time favorite games. However, I'm afraid I can no longer recommend this game to anyone unless Gaijin makes some significant changes to their predatory monetization, game balance and community engagement.

However, I'm afraid I can no longer recommend this game to anyone unless Gaijin makes some significant changes to their predatory monetization, game balance and community engagement.

    The company has become progressively more greedy over the years, purposedly releasing OP premiums and finally nerfing them after sales die down. They have steadily reduced research and silver lion gains, making progress unbearably slow, even if you perform well, have a premium account and use premium vehicles. With the ever-increasing size of the tech trees, this becomes an endless grind that is designed to frustrate you into spending more and more money to get ahead and enjoy the core gameplay (which has also become incredibly stale after 10 years of capturing circles on the map or just TDM across planes, tanks and ships). Their engagement with the players has also been downright condescending, with dubious polls on fake fixes, constant gaslighting and ignoring detailed, well-researched bug reports because it doesn't fit their agenda, not to mention the ever-present does of Russian bias, especially in the higher tiers, which is simply undeniable at this point.

    There is nothing else out there quite like War Thunder, but these and many other issues have pushed me away from this unique game. I would NOT recommend anyone start playing this game now. It will frustrate you into wasting your money on premiums that will be nerfed in a few months or not be meta anymore. It will make you less of a teamplayer by incentivizing selfishness because of the grind with mechanics that disincentivize teamwork. It will give you serious FOMO with OP or unique vehicles that have be grinded in events that require more time than full-time jobs. It will frustrate you into spending money on basic modifications that allow you to be at least on par with your enemies (stock grind - jets without countermeasures, ineffective ammo on high-tier tanks, no fire extinguisher or parts on tanks and ships, etc). More and more this game is becoming pay-to-play and pay-to-win.

    This game will grab your attention using your fascination with military vehicles and squeeze every last penny and sanity you have so you can play with them. STAY AWAY UNTIL THEY MAKE SOME SERIOUS CHANGES!    … Expand

Progressing to modern content, such as the F-16, often requires premium time and sometimes premium vehicles, but even having both won't guarantee a fair experience. Despite having 200 more days of premium account and owning 9 rank VI and VII premium vehicles, I am leaving the game. The developers are hardworking and cool, and I have no issues with them, but the management is really bad. Their decisions, like removing Steam from their site and rewarding positive reviews, have been questionable. If they continue to ignore their fanbase's criticisms and fail to change their ways, they risk losing their fanbase, just like what happened with Overwatch 2 and Battlefield 2042.… Expand

    Ive played this game since 2016, this game is fun, but only in 2016-2018, now gayjoob has become a greedy pig, balance content is f***** up, server is f***** up (even after 2-3 year they dont fix it), lots of issues that the players suggest them to fix, but guess what? they completely ignore the players base, disrepectfully, they even block the players that dare to speak, spawncamperIve played this game since 2016, this game is fun, but only in 2016-2018, now gayjoob has become a greedy pig, balance content is f***** up, server is f***** up (even after 2-3 year they dont fix it), lots of issues that the players suggest them to fix, but guess what? they completely ignore the players base, disrepectfully, they even block the players that dare to speak, spawncamper after 2 min, **** in ground RB, plane in ground RB, we got SAM tanks that is helpless against jet with fire and forget AT missles from more than 10km away, or bomb from a very very high attitude where you can't find them, or **** camping behind mountain like a pu**y and snipe tank, if we use found them and send missle?, the **** will simply hover down to hide, or just spam ATGMs to destroy your missle, there is NO f****** COUNTER PLAY TO ALL OF THIS bull****, and GAYJOOB HAS NO INTENT TO FIX IT, many players suggest TANK ONLY in ground RB, and f****** gayjoob just ignore players base completely, claiming that it will make the waiting queue longer(That us players dont even give a single damn), and new machenic for tank that is USELESS FOR 90%, even though players never ask for it

    So again if you are newbie (especially those that want to buy high tier premium tank to play the game), i suggest you dont waste your time in this game, because this is no longer the game that it suppose to be, or simply you will get pissed off after play for 1 hour, gayjoob is now become a greedy pig, and they will do anything to get money from us, while they ignore the players opinion DISRESPECTFULLY, and DONT FIX THEIR DAMN GAME AND ISSUES THAT EXIST MORE THAN 2 YEARS, JUST DONT

    Grind is unbearable, i have 1200 hours (F2P player) and 0 MBTs (except squadron and 1 premium vehicle i bought lately). And a premium vehicle will cost you 60$, and you need premium account as well.

    Servers are dying at least once a week. Anti-cheat is not making the game free of cheaters. Tanks/planes are matchmaked in way player simply needs luck to get such match where his tanks and skills matter indeed.
    Game stakeholders are disrespectful to their community. They force moderators on Reddit, Steam, War Thunder forums to delete posts that, in civilized way, critisize the game.

    If you want to play mil simulator, this is not good choice. Even World Of Tanks is less greedy, less broken, less disrespectful for its community. And its top tier is way more fun than 8.0-11.3 battle rating in War Thunder.

    If you want to spend money on game to get tanks, this is not good choice. Even with that you need to be above average to earn any money.

    Save your soul and money.

    game itself is a brilliant piece of game-design, the graphics, vehicle models, penetration system, etc. but it all got ruined because of Gaijin`s greediness. they really do not care about players, only thing they care about is lining their own pockets. without buying premium vehicles and premium time, at rank 3-4 you`ll hit a MASSIVE wall, when you will barely make enough money to covergame itself is a brilliant piece of game-design, the graphics, vehicle models, penetration system, etc. but it all got ruined because of Gaijin`s greediness. they really do not care about players, only thing they care about is lining their own pockets. without buying premium vehicles and premium time, at rank 3-4 you`ll hit a MASSIVE wall, when you will barely make enough money to cover repair costs. but economy along with monstrous repair costs are not the only problems, but vehicle balance, battle rating system, map design, tone-deafness of developers, and their unwillingness to do anything about it. but of course, they are interested in adding two or three new premium vehicles every update. please, who sees that review and deciding whether he wants to start playing war thunder, do not do it. go play something else.

    War Thunder has always been a very grindy f2p game but it made up for that with an excellent selection of aircraft and the best mouse controlled flight mechanics I've ever played. Unfortunately the developer has been making the grind worse for years on end while also making extremely poor balance decisions.     Нерфить доходность техники, повышать стоимость ремонта техники, называя это все ребалансом экономики.
    В игре и так после 5 ранга не возможно играть не донатя в игру, игра тебя начинает наказывать за ошибки в бою высокой стоимостью ремонта которая скрыта от игрока (на некоторой техники цена ремонта настолько высока даже за хороший бой ты в лучшем    Жадность разработчиков не знает границ

    Даже играя с премиум техникой и прем аккаутом чтоб прокачать технику 6-8 уходит безумное количество времени что приводит к тому что в бою у людей есть только один два респа и игра скатывается в унылую дичь где по гигантской карте катается 3.5 инвалида.
    Так же разработчики забивают на баланс техники в особенности если они находятся в не популярных ветках и не стремятся ее исправлять.
    На хайрангах появляются новые проблемы это стоимость штурмовки заходит просто за космическую стоимость при этом зенитка которая способна ее сбивать стоит 70 очков и из за механики игры банально самолеты отрисовываются значительно раньше чем наземная техника, так же кривые лоды из за которых техника для самолетов проваливается под землю.

    One of the cornerstones of War Thunder is that player’s skill is more important than his wallet. Premium vehicles offer no combat advantages, there is no “microtransaction-only” ammo or consumables, so no amount of cash will buy you a spot on the top of the food chain. [Issue#216, p.56]

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
