A pretty average TBS game close to Panzer General, with poor graphics and an archaic control system.

A pretty average TBS game close to Panzer General, with poor graphics and an archaic control system.

    The good:
    - classic elements of a wargame are there
    - artillery "stuns" enemy units, removing 1 action point - haven't seen this in any other TBS game

    The so-so:
    - pretty energetic music, though gets annoying a bit, and unfortunately doesn't save the static lifeless picture
    - a lot of story which is pretty mediocre and accompanies the missioins
    - both action points can be used for attacking and/or moving, in any order which is an interesting feature but punishes for moving forward in general
    - fog of war and scouting units - that's typical for Panzer General-like games but I like the perfect information of Massive Assault more. That's a matter of taste though.

    The bad:
    - very bland 3D graphics even by 2006 standards, with no animations. Today's gamers will find them really ugly; hard to tell your own from enemy units
    - poor GUI with lots of useless decorative elements which look too much like buttons
    - fonts are too dense and not easily readable
    - no mouse-over tooltips, can't see where enemy units can move, can't even see where your unit can fire - apart from the selected unit's movement range and how much damage it will do to the enemy unit under cursor there isn't any other info
    - no undo button, no "next unit" button, can't easily see what units have action points left, so in general the controls are pretty rudimentary

If you're fond of wargames on a hex grid, Massive Assault 1 or 2 are better options; or Battle Worlds Kronos, from the more recent offerings.
