Sep 12, 2011It's just too bad VVVVVV didn't come out 25 years ago.
-
Sep 12, 2011It's Terry Cavanagh's best game to date, and one of the best platformers I've ever played. If you have any interest in challenging platformers whatsoever, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to pick up VVVVVV.
-
Total PC GamingSep 12, 2011A game that expertly treads the thin line between frustration and satisfaction. [Issue#31, p.52]
-
Sep 12, 2011VVVVVV is the result of a strong introspection of the platform genre, where Terry Cavanaugh studies the past while creating something new for the future.
-
PC Gamer UKSep 12, 2011An indie platform game with endearing retro looks, style, sophistication, and a sadistic streak. [Mar 2010, p.96]
-
Sep 12, 2011Fun, short and crazy hard but not frustrating. VVVVVV is just a nice, very well design piece of indie game.
-
Sep 12, 2011Brutal and rather short, VVVVVV's also devious and darkly funny. It's a pedantic classic, and a game for watch-makers as much as speed-runners.
-
Sep 12, 2011Look past its lo-fi style and you'll realise its production values are hardly stingy, with unlockable time trials and other Easter-egg modes, and generally slick presentation. More to the point, it's excellent for its entire length. How many big-budget developments can say that?
-
Sep 12, 2011VVVVVV offers clever platforming, a superb soundtrack, and challenging gameplay. But it's extremely short, and the $15 price tag is asking a bit too much.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Sep 12, 2011It's as if a time machine puts you in the year 1984. Stylish retro platformer offers fast and variable playability, especially for all speed runners who like to push the limits. [Feb 2010]
-
Sep 12, 2011Punishingly and infuriatingly hard, but also the best retro-inspired platform puzzler for years.
-
Sep 12, 2011VVVVVV's fusion of styles is exactly what lends it its endless playability; there's not a dull moment to be had in this tight, rewarding and above all blisteringly fun package.
-
Sep 12, 2011It's easy to recommend VVVVVV to fans of the "retro revival" games that seem to be gaining in popularity; but it has more in common with artsy, competent and contemporary titles like N+ and Braid than it does with, say, Konami's Rebirth series on WiiWare, Mega Man 9 or Retro Game Challenge.
-
Sep 12, 2011Sporadic difficulty notwithstanding, it's certainly a credit to Mr. Cavanagh that a project with VVVVVV's basic graphics and simple controls can feel so completely energetic and entertaining. Much more than it initially appears, I was quite glad to have spent time with the title, and eagerly look forward to what Terry will be cooking up next.

PC Zone UKSep 12, 2011Nothing VVVVVV does is actually new or different. [May 2010, p.91]
