I'm giving this game a 7. I love system shock. I love Bioshock. I love Prey, Stalker, Deus Ex, and Fallout (New Vegas) lol. This game has some of that , its pretty, and it does have fun moments. There is a but, and it's one that I don't think has been talked about enough because i believe most people write reviews with under an hour play time. The loop gets boring quickly. I said it, and believe me I WANTED TO PLAY THIS GAME FOR MONTHS. But after about 10 hours I really just don't see the point. The missed the mark with lack of story, they could have made a rouge lite with audio logs to push you forward like all the games its trying to be like. The game is good, but don't go in thinking its going to stay fresh for long. Expand

First of all the graphics are bad - everything looks like Comic Sans. The gunplay is mediocre. The enemies are boring. Levels are procedural generated = soulless goo.
I like FPS, i love FTL, but i couldn't stand this void for longer than 2 hours.

Please stop comparing FTL to rogue-like games of any kind and quality.

You may like it a lot the first time you play it.
You will like it less every time from there on out.
Its a decent FPS roguelike, but there is nothing to keep you coming back after the initial novelty wears off. Every reviewer that spent less than 10 -15 hours playing Void Bastards before writing their review is negligent. Thats probably all of them, which would explain the scores. As

As you start to become comfortable with the game and its systems, you will realize there is nothing to play for, and move on to something with heart.
They made a competent experience that is very thin and soulless. Its not worth the initial asking price considering the quick sell by date.
There are so many more worthy candidates for your time and money.....these are not the Voids your looking for.....you may go about your business......move along,,,,,

Very cool game with only one downside, that it's not that compelling. Great graphics, great world, bizarre enemies that spout very odd lines, great atmosphere. My only issue is that after playing it a few times, I didn't want to play it again. FPS credentials fine, a bit slow and not entirely complicated. A fun game to load up for a short play.

Its as though Faster Than Light, System shock and Trainspotting had a baby. And they called that baby Void Bastards. Its a good game, honestly priced and honestly fun. Which is refreshing in a marketplace so saturated by the greed of the big publishers and their excessive monetisation schemes.

Just a wonderful little game. It has a lovely cell shaded look to it and has a sense of humour that I find to be best described as very "British" more often than not. That may be a problem for many, but i quite enjoy it.

It is a first person rogue-like, a FTL meets System Shock with a sprinkling of some Rogue Legacy-like mechanics. A player makes their way across space, stopping by deserted ships along the way. The player must scavenge resources, food and ammo from these ships and either avoid or fight those entities that may be dwelling inside. You will die a lot and make plenty of mistakes, but that is half of the fun.

Probably one of my favourite games of 2019 at the time of writing this, and only gave it a 9 rather than a 10 due to the fact that it can be quite repetitive. Though repetitive can be a positive factor for many, so take that as you will.

Think of this game as if FTL was an FPS.

I absolutely loved the world building, lore and the atmosphere and the British accent and humor really made it stand out. The only thing I didn't like was that the UX suffered a bit due to the comic like UI. Also, I started loving this game more when I started playing at as an actual roguelite and not as Borderlands. You do NOT need to loot

Void Bastards is a great game and highly recommend it for anyone. First of all the visuals are absolutely stunning and gorgeous. Simply put, Void bastards does not only do well at looking good and being amusing, but also at dealing out the punishment.

If not for creativity, this game excels at dispensing a good challenge,

it sort of like FTL but with an fps dungeon as the combat.

The best indie game of 2019 and the best roguelike game in my opinion. Visual and sound at the highest level. There is also great variability

    It's a "wait for sales".
Entertaining procedural first person shooter, that mix simple action with a tad of resources managment and enemy avoidance.
Wrapped in a nice, alternative, visual style. The best bits is his clever, deadpan humor that reminds of Paranoia pen and paper rpg. The less appealing parts are: poor replayability and monotonous gameplay. It suffer from few enemies, few

I am in love with the art style of this game, it's similar to those on comic books

The technical gameplay is really good too, this kind of remembers me of my favorite game, bioshock (the first one), and i enjoy the voice of the guy from The Stanley Parable (Kevan Brighting)

It can be punishing, trapping you in a burning spaceship with the most dangerous foes in the galaxy...

Or it can be merciful and grant you a ton of loot in a spaceship where all aliens are your allies !

But don't worry, you can finish the game while staying at the lowest difficulty... It would be long but it can be done !

Of course, you would be sparring yourself from the strive of battle, of loot and danger ! When you manage to survive after defeating the strongest foes, dodging the viciously traps on the way and facing the hazards... The game rewards you pretty well.

It's not a stunning and brave AAA game, but it has it charms :
the cartoon-ish style make the cynical universe possible,
dying is not punishing so you can take risks and get higher loots,
few type of enemies but each of them makes you adopt a new strategy.

    Don't miss the ending, it's hilarious !

Could've been a great game, but the creators were so hell-bent on making this game old school they had completely abandoned any common sense. For a game that seems so keen on reviving the old school spirit of games like System Shock and Bioshock, it certainly doubles down on their negative aspects, yet offers little to no positives, which is the exact opposite of what a good spiritual successor is meant to do.

If more attention was paid to story and less to grind, Void Bastards could potentially rival System Shock. As it is, however, it’s basically just another roguelike. [Issue#241, p.50]
