Jul 7, 2020VirtuaVerse is a great love letter to old school point and click adventure and to the cyberpunk imagery. Maybe not an absolute masterpiece but definitely a gem for a lot of passionate gamers.

Jun 12, 2020VirtuaVerse is a cyberpunk point & click adventure set in a future not so far away, narrating tales of technomancers, AVR graffiti writers, hacker groups, tribes of cryptoshamans, digital archeology, epic cyberwars and virtual reality debauchery.

Jan 6, 2021VirtuaVerse isn't all bad. It is a solid 10-plus hour plot that is a clear homage to some of the best portrayals of this dystopian vision of a futuristic world. There are a few nice set pieces here and there, and from a graphical standpoint, the visuals pop on the screen and are incredibly memorable. Likewise, the musical score compliments them ideally. However, this is an adventure that never gets off the ground thanks to lacklustre main characters, forgettable dialogue, and a clichéd plot. Worse still, the puzzling point-and-click adventure aspects of gameplay detract from the above more often than they enhance.

Aug 6, 2020Submerse yourself in an incredible neo-punk environment for this point and click adventure that’s as frustrating as it is atmospheric, which is to say a lot.

May 27, 2020Modern point-and-click adventures like Thimbleweed Park and Irony Curtain had a healthy dose of self-irony that elevated them head and shoulders above the usual crop of retro-conscious adventures. VirtuaVerse comes off as smug and immature in comparison. Instead of post-modern awareness, the game is drenched in the old school it painstakingly recreates that holds it back from being a great adventure. True, it might have been a conscious design choice but a very stubborn one as games have evolved for a reason, even retro game attempts. While VirtuaVerse’s presentation certainly fits the bill, elsewhere the game is too dustily rooted in the illogical puzzles, weak writing, and thin characterization of the past.
