While Valhalla Hills doesn't have the presentation and energy of some of the more popular RTS games, it does manage to offer up an addictive experience that is a lot of fun. Listening to the intriguing sound effects of the Vikings mustering up their strength to work remains delightful and humorous throughout the entire game.

If you like management games, Valhalla Hills is a great choice that is fun and engaging. It is not the most complex one, but definitely worth your time.

A refreshing old-school building strategy game for patient players, which only displays its charm and potential after a few hours of playing. It's love at second sight.

Valhalla Hills is a well built title easily capable of fulfilling a short term RTS fix.

The game fails to deliver too much in the way of story, and the graphics are a little limited, but the core building and optimization mechanics are captivating and give gamers plenty of interesting ways to tweak the layout of buildings and the paths that characters use.

Valhalla Hills is a pretty good god game, accessible for novices of the genre and fun for veterans too. Some problems with the AI and a boring initial phase keep it from being truly great, though.

Valhalla Hills is all in all, a strong little RTS, with enough going on under the surface to satisfy most fans of the genre.

Although the main story in Valhalla Hills is quite lacking, managing a Viking settlement at the foot of a mountain is an interesting challenge.

It's not quite up there with Funatics' other RTS titles, due to a rather weak aesthetic and lack of player agency, but Valhalla Hills still has a lot of randomly-generated fun in store for fans of the genre.

What’s there is fun, and DLC is on the horizon, but the package is on the light side.

It shows off some interesting features which could have made Valhalla Hills truly unique, but when it comes to variety, depth and diversity, it fails to impress.

A classical build up strategy game in tradition of The Settlers- and Cultures-Series from Funatics. You’ll have to conquer procedural-made islands, leading you Vikings to a portal, that leads to Valhalla. The tiny look of the toon-like characters and their animations are charming, as well as watching your folk building houses, farms and stuff. Unfortunately the transport of goods is unnecessary complicated and the AI is just acting automatically. There is no way to give precise orders, same as for the military-part of the game.

Alas, Valhalla Hills is too repetitive and simple, and its randomly generated maps are not a replacement for a normal single-player campaign.

How does Valhalla Hills look in comparison with famous Settlers franchise? The developers have failed in some areas, and succeeded in others. Fortunately, completing new maps and goals is very pleasant - every fan of colorful strategy games based on economy should consider this game. If not now maybe after some discounts?

Compared to the early access, this final release is sadly disappointing. What we got is a still interesting god game, but the price can't make up for what it's in the box, and much fixing by the devs is still needed.

While I adored its striking visuals, and its core resource and city management was engrossing, the repetitive nature of the start and end game deprives Valhalla Hills of much variety, leaving it as a straight-forward, slightly casual, management sim to pass the time for a few days, but never does enough to be memorable.

While aesthetically charming and quite entertaining to play, there’s not enough content to declare Valhalla Hills a success. This, paired with a questionable price point, makes it an experience to embrace just if you’re a big Settlers fan. Otherwise wait for the unavoidable price drop.

Valhalla Hills is good, but too shallow successor to Settlers. Caring for the Viking nation will entertain you for a moment (at least visually), but otherwise the game lacks content to utilize all the game mechanics properly.

Valhalla Hills is charming, but it lacks compelling problem-solving scenarios, is too repetitive, and has players relying too much trial and error to progress.

It’s a charming, lighthearted game of resource gathering and production. Unfortunately, it’s only really fun when things work smoothly and easily. Figuring out mistakes and solving problems - which should be the core of a good strategy game - are built around solving pathfinding issues, and Valhalla Hills doesn’t do much to make those problems more palatable.

With the procedurally generated maps there’s plenty of replay value and there’s something rather rewarding helping you tribe earn the stripes and conquer each level. However the issues with crashes on the low-end of the graphical scale are a concern especially as this will be a tempting game for those who game on the go.

Lead your people. Survive the wilderness. Fight for honor. Reclaim your eternal reward. A brand new strategy game from the developers ofLead your people. Survive the wilderness. Fight for honor. Reclaim your eternal reward. A brand new strategy game from the developers of Cultures and The Settlers II.

Valhalla Hills is a indie-strategy game where you build your village with focus on objectives and achievements through every mission. Developed by Funatics Software, published by Daedalic Entertainment game got published on steam platform on 2nd December.

Story follows Leko, son of Odin, the ruler of Asgard who get banished by his father to the Earth where he need to become useful. Leko decide to help fellow Vikings and as God of the builders he will try to bring those Vikings to the portals with hope to reach Valhalla.

You are controlling couple Vikings indirectly by making buildings as Toolmaker, Woodcutter, Quarry, Fishery, Hunter’s Lodge and many more where they will need to adapt, start gathering resources, create tools and expand their settlement to be able to reach portal. In begining islands will be smaller without too much challenge where you aim to get enough teritory and reach portal where you will need to deal with choice, do you want to sacrifice something or you want to deal in violent way. How ? With viking army ! So among many buildings you will be able to create army and military camps and train your vikings with couple different weapons to fight and defend their village. Food, place for sleep and weapons will be required to keep soldiers up aswel as good production in your village to keep building new stuff without longer delays.

Problem with game in current early-access stage come with fact that whole game is goal-oriented which means that after creating your village, increasing population and setting up everything as you want will be removed by going through portal, where essentially you get forced to start from scratch with couple new unlocks most of the time, but with same goal; expand your village, create army and get near portal to see what awaits you. After completed 20 levels things didnt change and almost every single time you will need to go less or more in same order with buildings aside from experimenting and trying to find faster way of developing every aspect. All come to end fight and decision what to do without knowing what will come out if you decide that your army is stronger no matter what.

That idea kinda kills potential which is enormous with this title and overall concept. On the other side Art style is amazing. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, yet game looks adorable and amazing in every single aspect. Vikings, buildings, water and especially lightnings during night time are very well done and it’s impressive that all of that come with no performance loss which is almost common thing with Unreal games. Sure, there are no radicilous number of units through levels but amazing graphics fulfill that spot. They hit the nail on the head. It fits perfectly and the scenery is simple and enjoyable. A nice cartoon-ish setting fits the casual play of the game and doesn’t overwhelm you. Also a fun bit in the background that you’ll love is each time you open a portal a volcano on another island explodes. Who doesn’t love exploding volcanoes ?

Mapsize depends on your progress and eventually you can make different seeds aswel as bigger map through campaign where you get more challenge among many other additional unlocks. By playing more you will be able to create your own Vikings along with fact that at any point you can rename any of your Vikings aswel as seeing their attributes. AI is pretty solid with fact that in most similiar games you would have roaming units trying to kill your people and distrupt building while in this one that isnt really a issue even though you can find some roaming creatures. Having time to organize your plan and buildings without being disrupted this make fairly enjoyable and relaxing game, just dont expect crazy fights and fast response from your side.

Keep on mind that game is still in early access so more features might be added, aswel as not having official statement about multiplayer aspect which could be game changing especially due to fact that campaign become repetetive at one point. Overall, game is totally worth of playing especially if you are huge fan of Settlers games. If you are not looking for crazy and huge fights, more focus on casual strategy-building genre, with goal to take your vikings on adventure to Vahalla through fighting, gathering and building along with making decisions this is right title for you.
