    This HD remake brings the outdated graphics of Star Control 2 up to modern standards without sacrificing the charm of the original. As soon as you enter the home solar system, you can see major improvements to the planets and the stars. The planets rotate and orbit their stars. Each alien race looks more life-like.

    The Ur-Quan Masters HD is an enhanced and updated port of Star Control II, an excellent, but older game. Virtually everything about the original game has been enhanced and improved in a positive way, from the graphics (which are gorgeous), down to minor gameplay tweaks. All in all, it's very worth the time spent playing it and I can't recommend it enough.

    True science fiction game with an amazing story, great characters and witty dialog.
    This HD remake makes the game look fantastic, of course. And not only that, it also includes improvements to the gameplay elements, making it much better experience for the new players.

    This game is much better than many full priced games, and it's free.

    This fork from the original Ur-Quan Masters is what you're supposed to play. The work on the graphic is simply amazing! The latest Beta version has even introduced "authentic planet surfaces for the Sol systems planet", which is a real blast!

    Ur-Quan Masters HD makes the game as modern as it's possibly can be at this time. But the team is planning other ways to make it even better.

    So you got your basic Star Control 2. Then you open source the code and art - everything except the title. Call it The Ur-Quan Masters and get a group of dedicated individuals to make it awesomer than the original.

    Then get some more dedicated individuals to convert all the old VGA art into HD.

    Jobs done. And it's even more awersomer than awesome.

    Brings the classic Star control 2 to modern gamers, with updated graphics and gameplay, it is a wonderful masterpiece that everyone should play, i used to play SC3 when i was a kid, and now i understand why so many people bash it in favor of star control 2, it is because it is a MUCH superior game

    Star Control is considered by many one of the richest universes in gaming and Star Control 2 the best game of all time. I am part of that group and seeing a HD remake of the original makes me happy for the thousands of new gamers that will have the ability to explore this amazing universe for the first time.

    As if there was no excuse to play this amazing game before this remake, "the graphics are too old" is now no longer a valid reason! Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. Please learn at least middle school level English before you join the forums though; yes, I'm talking to all you Yogscast fanatics.

I played through the original one few times about 15 years    I salute you, my enthusiastic fellow hunam Captains and especially you, the Ur-Quan Masters team, for keeping the flame of Star Control alive.     Ur-Quan Masters HD is a glorious remake of Star Control 2, which was The Game back in the day. I played through the original one few times about 15 years ago. Today, even after more than two decades of enthusiastic pc gaming SC2 is still the best gaming experience I have had.

    One of the greatest games of all time, and my personal favorite of all time, redone into an absolutely beautiful package.

    I nearly cried when I discovered it, and I wish I could drive to the creators' houses and give them all the most awkward hugs humanly possible. Words cannot express this games greatness, and neither can they express the feeling I got when I started playing.     The Ur Quan Masters is a clever and often hilarious space adventure that never takes itself too seriously, but managed to hit you with its surprising depth. Still in this modern day, there's isn't a game that throws you    Arguably one of the greatest games of all time.     The Ur Quan Masters is a clever and often hilarious space adventure that never takes itself too seriously, but managed to hit you with its surprising depth. Still in this modern day, there's isn't a game that throws you into a spaceship and gives you the same sense of open exploration.(The closest might be the original Mass Effect. But that's a third person shooter, and not a ship combat game.)

    Even with this HD remake, there are a lot of things that will feel dated. Remember that in 1992, actual 3D polygonal graphics were in their infancy. Voice acting hadn't been done yet. Fast travel had to be earned. This game has no mini map, quest markers, journal, or codex. Like a lot of games from its time, Star Control 2 was punishingly difficult. And you could find that you actually can't win the game anymore, because of mistakes that you made 10 hours ago. The game has an in-universe time limit, and they give you subtle warnings, which you absolutely need to take seriously. Most modern games have smoothed out these rough edges. Gaming is better for it.

    And yet, this is part of what made Star Control 2 so satisfying. I recommend writing everything down. I recommend taking a few hints, where you need them (especially as it pertains to fast travel).

    And this remake is free. We are so blessed. It's worth playing just to learn a thing or two about world-building,    … Expand
