This Game costs more than it's worth, it's an indie game that tells you the story of a person while you unpack their things, but that story is so simple that you don't even have to pay so much attention and you know how it ends when you go to the half, and as for the price, on steam the game is worth 16 dolars (in my country at least). And you'll finish it in an hour. It doesn't have the content or experience to back it up Expand

Everyone is pretending this is so casual and relaxing, BUT IS IT REALLY...?!

Why does she force you to put all the furniture in one corner of the room, leaving two walls completely blank? What kind of woman only owns two pairs of shoes and no socks? And things get very dark later on, when she moves into places where the previous owner is nowhere to be seen and left most of their belongings in a hurry. And what do you get for your work? Stickers, until she puts you away again for another couple of years. I'm pretty sure the binding spell is in the Rubik's cube that she takes everywhere but obviously doesn't touch, so destroy it. Save yourself.

    .... yeah, not really.

It's as casual as it gets, and has zero challenge or replayability, and you have literally one job. Don't get creative, it doesn't like it. It does however what it sets out to do, so I can't really blame it for that, and if you like the style you might even enjoy the underlying "story" it tells by showing, not telling. It's certainly as inoffensive and cute as possible, which also means that it passes up on any chance to be more than mildly interesting.

oR DOeSN't iT?! Yeah, no, really not.

And if developers lazy dudes: if someone want to watch good visuals - they can watch films, if someone wants good sound - they can listen music, but if people want to play the game that can chill - that game is not about chill only because you need to think about 1/8 of total time where you need to put this carpet(and picture too, because story in translation cant say that the picture contains person who is bad in the story)

This game is actually really solid and an overall fun time. It's relaxing for the most part but gets lowkey stressful as you advance through the levels. Not a game I ever thought I'd enjoy, but I did. I loved it. My girlfriend adores it, as well.

The only thing stopping me from giving it an 8+ is this: there are multiple items throughout the game that the game wants you to put in a very specific spot. Some of them make sense, but others really didn't. I felt like the game took away certain freedoms when it really didn't need to. It didn't take me out of the experience, but it happened enough that I noticed and didn't like that aspect of it.

Other than that; I highly recommend giving this game a go. It'll surprise you.

It's a beautiful game telling a story of a life, or part of it at least, through items and locations. You notice, as with each moving, some items disappear, others are added, some of them stay but their condition changes, etc.

The pixel art in this game is one of the best I have seen. Of course, one could argue that the game is limited in its scope, but in this case, it is definitely quality over quantity. Music is similarly very pleasant.

It is a great title to just lose a couple hours in when you need to relax, listen to some great instrumentals, and click at couple things to take your mind off of more stressful stuff.

Unfortunately, it is not completely without blemishes. For a self described "zen game", some of the item placement requirements are a bit stringent and there is not tips, or anything of the sort, and if you don't know all of the items present, you will sometimes struggle. Some of them are pretty non-descript, others are things that not everyone uses and the devs kinda expect that you do, which can lead to unnecessary annoyance or frustration. Fortunately, there aren't many such things.

Furthermore, the devs decided to make a very specific statement about halfway into the game, and it also feels a bit shoehorned and out of nowhere, so if you are averse to topics regarding certain lifestyles, you should probably avoid this game. Whatever your opinion on the topic which I will not spoil or discuss, calling your product a "zen game" while intentionally creating content that will spark controversy, makes you a bit of a liar.

Considering the limited to nonexistent re-playability and limited amount of content - even with how high quality it is, the game is overpriced and I'd not recommend buying it unless it's about 50% off at least.

The story can be interesting, but the gameplay itself is primitive, repetitive. I got bored after the first level.
Moreover, I dislike the introduction of many rooms, which requires me to move around. Some items' right location is questionable.

I had to force myself a bit to end this. I abandoned this game for few weeks bc i was so done with "having to put sth in specific place". An interesting way to tell a story, and one that feels as though it could only be done in this way. While I will admit that simply placing objects around a house doesn't exactly make me think award-winning gameplay, it is much more interesting than it has any right to be. Unpacking is not a game for everyone, but the people it appeals to will fall in love with it. The game has its own unique charm, and players will find themselves breezing through the whole thing before they know it. However, that does mean the game is way shorter than it should be. With only 8 levels, they definitely could have made it to at least 13-15. The beautiful pixel art enhances the game's aesthetic, though certain items don't translate as well, leading to some confusion.

In the end, Unpacking is completely fine. It’s a three or four-hour experience of going through a life via boxes, and the believable, realistic narrative that unfolds. It’s recommended as a nice break from more taxing titles, but I still wish there was much more to… unpack.

This indie gem guides through an emotional-nostalgic trip of personal history, relaxed and with a few small puzzles.
