I went into the game thinking it was just a puzzle but found its story the more I played. Replaying it has been a joy. I'd suggest turning off the puzzle mode if you'd like to get creative

This Game costs more than it's worth, it's an indie game that tells you the story of a person while you unpack their things, but that story is so simple that you don't even have to pay so much attention and you know how it ends when you go to the half, and as for the price, on steam the game is worth 16 dolars (in my country at least). It doesn't have the content or experience to back it up Expand

Why does she force you to put all the furniture in one corner of the room, leaving two walls completely blank? What kind of woman only owns two pairs of shoes and no socks? And things get very dark later on, when she moves into places where the previous owner is nowhere to be seen and left most of their belongings in a hurry. And what do you get for your work? Stickers, until she puts you away again for another couple of years. I'm pretty sure the binding spell is in the Rubik's cube that she takes everywhere but obviously doesn't touch, so destroy it. Save yourself.

    .... yeah, not really.

It's as casual as it gets, and has zero challenge or replayability, and you have literally one job. Don't get creative, it doesn't like it. It does however what it sets out to do, so I can't really blame it for that, and if you like the style you might even enjoy the underlying "story" it tells by showing, not telling. It's certainly as inoffensive and cute as possible, which also means that it passes up on any chance to be more than mildly interesting.

oR DOeSN't iT?! Yeah, no, really not.

And if developers lazy dudes: if someone want to watch good visuals - they can watch films, if someone wants good sound - they can listen music, but if people want to play the game that can chill - that game is not about chill only because you need to think about 1/8 of total time where you need to put this carpet(and picture too, because story in translation cant say that the picture contains person who is bad in the story)

El gran reproche que tengo es que no hay una opción que permita dar información acerca de los objetos, que aunque la mayoría son reconocibles, el pixel art a veces llega a no dar mucha información de que es específicamente un objeto de los que he desempacado y donde podría acomodarlo.

Unpacking is a very different game. It is also a very simple game yet one that also carries a compelling gameplay loop that had me coming back again and again, completing the game one level at a time.

The graphics of Unpacking take a simplistic and befitting approach. The vibrant artwork is pleasing to the eye, and my only criticism is that smaller objects can be hard to distinguish and identify, but this was never game-breaking for me.

The gameplay is the bread and butter of Unpacking. The premise is incredibly simple: you have boxes piled up in each room of your home and you need to literally unpack them and place items in a suitable manner. This begets a fun game of Tetris-like gameplay as you slot items into shelves or chaotically chuck them wherever you can find space. There is a lot of satisfaction to completely unpacking a room.

My biggest criticism of the gameplay is that it can be restrictive in where items must be placed. One room in particular had me hide a photo in a drawer, which was really obtuse and specific; I’d never have figured that out without looking it up, but at the same time it fits with the narrative.

The story of Unpacking may seem non-existent, but there is a subtle narrative at play, as each home you unpack seems to be for the same person as you follow them on their journey of life, sharing their adventure and heartbreak along the way.

One of my favourite things about Unpacking is probably that the game does not outstay its welcome and is the perfect length for compacted enjoyment.

Overall, unpacking is a real breath of fresh air for someone like me who tries of beating people to death in videogames. Far too many games fall into this gameplay loop and we can easily forget that videogames need not be violent to be enjoyable. I can definitely recommend this game.

This game is perfect, the only minus is that it is short and didn't go to the emotional depth I wanted of it. I was ready to cry and get proper feels, but instead I got more sweet, comforting feels, which is nice too it is just not the emotional depth I was hoping for.

The only thing stopping me from giving it an 8+ is this: there are multiple items throughout the game that the game wants you to put in a very specific spot. Some of them make sense, but others really didn't. I felt like the game took away certain freedoms when it really didn't need to. It didn't take me out of the experience, but it happened enough that I noticed and didn't like that aspect of it.

Other than that; I highly recommend giving this game a go. It'll surprise you.

It's a beautiful game telling a story of a life, or part of it at least, through items and locations. You notice, as with each moving, some items disappear, others are added, some of them stay but their condition changes, etc.

The pixel art in this game is one of the best I have seen. Of course, one could argue that the game is limited in its scope, but in this case, it is definitely quality over quantity. Music is similarly very pleasant.

It is a great title to just lose a couple hours in when you need to relax, listen to some great instrumentals, and click at couple things to take your mind off of more stressful stuff.

Unfortunately, it is not completely without blemishes. For a self described "zen game", some of the item placement requirements are a bit stringent and there is not tips, or anything of the sort, and if you don't know all of the items present, you will sometimes struggle. Some of them are pretty non-descript, others are things that not everyone uses and the devs kinda expect that you do, which can lead to unnecessary annoyance or frustration. Fortunately, there aren't many such things.

Furthermore, the devs decided to make a very specific statement about halfway into the game, and it also feels a bit shoehorned and out of nowhere, so if you are averse to topics regarding certain lifestyles, you should probably avoid this game. Whatever your opinion on the topic which I will not spoil or discuss, calling your product a "zen game" while intentionally creating content that will spark controversy, makes you a bit of a liar.

Considering the limited to nonexistent re-playability and limited amount of content - even with how high quality it is, the game is overpriced and I'd not recommend buying it unless it's about 50% off at least.

The story can be interesting, but the gameplay itself is primitive, repetitive. I got bored after the first level.

Very satisfying to those who obey The Law Of Straightness (for those with pseudo-OCD tendencies, image search it). Calming music, pleasing aesthetics and a surprisingly emotional effect despite the minimalist game design on display.

It's very short though and the price (£15.49 on Steam) is pretty steep for the amount of game available without much replay value.

I love this game! A very casual game about unpacking, it's so satisfying. There is also a story in this game that you need to be careful not to miss. The game has no dialogs, or cutscenes to tell the story. Unpacking tells their story through the locations and items you unpack, which is pretty unique.

Unpacking is not a game for everyone, but the people it appeals to will fall in love with it. The game has its own unique charm, and players will find themselves breezing through the whole thing before they know it. However, that does mean the game is way shorter than it should be. With only 8 levels, they definitely could have made it to at least 13-15. The beautiful pixel art enhances the game's aesthetic, though certain items don't translate as well, leading to some confusion.

In the end, Unpacking is completely fine. It’s a three or four-hour experience of going through a life via boxes, and the believable, realistic narrative that unfolds. It’s recommended as a nice break from more taxing titles, but I still wish there was much more to… unpack.
