Pelit (Finland)UberSoldier does not dare to do anything bold with its undead protagonist. Instead, the game remains a generic WW2 shooter, although a technically adept one. [April 2006]
-
Ultimately, Ubersoldier falls prey to its own popular genre. Ubersoldier just doesn't contribute anything to FPS' as a whole, and many features of the game are indistinguishable from a title two years older.
-
While it’s far from a gaming masterpiece, UberSoldier does have its strengths that make it enjoyable.
-
The enemies all come from the same place with the same weapons and in the same numbers, leaving little room for surprise or suspense on a second play through.
-
Ignore the god-awful voice acting and plot, and you've got a moderately enjoyable FPS. It may not break new ground, but what does these days?
-
It isn’t the next "Quake," or "Call of Duty," but UberSoldier does provide an entertaining ride while it lasts.
-
PC GamerThis is a very generic, very buggy shooter. One other plus: translations and voice acting so bad, they're often entertaining. [July 2006, p.55]
-
UberSoldier would have benefited from any form of multiplayer. To no avail, there is none and you can clearly see it needed some form of replay value.
-
BoomtownUbersoldier has been made with some interesting ideas (although the choice of a WW2 setting seems strange considering the crowdedness of the genre and the nature of the story), but the execution of these ideas is far from perfect.
-
AceGamezIt fails because it's an undemanding game that lacks of anything remotely challenging or memorable, to make it one that you'll easily forget.
-
This is the sort of game you can enjoy well enough while you're playing it, but once you exit the program, you'll be in no great hurry to play it again.
-
Not exactly revolutionary and in most ways not even evolutionary, UberSoldier sinks even further into mediocrity with its appalling load times, pathetic voice acting, and power-hungry coding. However, its environments and scenery are quite magnificent, its battle concepts compelling and its AI adequate.
-
The similarities to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the laughably poor voice acting, the distracting AI, and the terribly unfortunate inclusion of the Starforce copy restriction system makes this a harder game to recommend than it should be.
-
The inclusion of some rather uninspired telekinetic abilities does nothing to distance this game from the hundreds of other, more original and more entertaining games out there.
-
A decent FPS, but it is a very basic one that lacks attention to detail. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it takes a certain type of gamer to really enjoy this type of mindless, systematic FPS gameplay.
-
If you can look beyond the technical issues, the game offers somewhat entertaining, if generic gameplay.
-
PC Gamer UKInventive, but ultimately overshadowed by the big boys. [May 2006, p.81]
-
UberSolider lacks online play and offers an average, ageing, gaming experience - "Counter-Strike" does the opposite. Sure UberSoldier is a budget release, but sometimes you pay for what you get... and sometimes true quality deserves spending a few more notes.
-
PC FormatLeaves little up to the player apart from pulling the trigger. Repeatedly. [May 2006, p.96]
-
Just don't expect quality, consistency, coherence, or any kind of worthy challenge to the head muscle, or the trigger finger.
-
A first-person shooter with a fairly interesting premise, but uninteresting gameplay. This is as straightforward as games can possibly get.
-
Just a by-the-numbers first-person shooter. It has a somewhat unique charm, thanks to its ridiculous storyline, voice acting and nifty bullet shield.
-
UberSoldier isn't dreadful, but it's a long way from being up there with the best first-person shooters on the PC. The story is often laughable and the gameplay feels like a tired re-run of shooters released over the past five years.
