While the premise of a small town beset by dark secrets is far from original, thanks to an intriguing story with some decent twists, interesting and well-written characters, and improved investigative gameplay, DONTNOD manages to deliver another compelling experience with Twin Mirror.

The gameplay is occasionally wonky, some of the more elaborate storytelling devices don’t land, and Sam is (deliberately) unlikable. However, Twin Mirror has a powerful story and it puts you in direct control of where it leads. If you play your narrative adventures for the narrative, Twin Mirror has the plotline for you.

Twin Mirror is Dontnod's most mature and psychological game. His story and Sam's background are able to keep us until the end to know what the conclusion will be.

Ambitious and extremely intelligent in creating a playful and narrative system that is always coherent, Twin Mirror proved to be a fascinating title.

Twin Mirror is, so far, the sum of all Dontnod's strengths: it develops and extends major elements from Life is Strange, Remember Me and Vampyr, merging them altogether to deliver a fine thriller.

Dontnod Entertainment delivers a great adventure based on the same elements we loved in Life is Strange or Tell Me Why; a good story, full of complex characters and adult themes. The main addition to the formula, The mind palace, works great for mystery solving.

Twin Mirror won't win any awards for creativity or interesting narrative choices, but it's strong themes that tie the entire experience together make it well worth the price of admission.

DONTNOD’s self-publishing debut is a worthwhile experience. Twin Mirror is anchored by a fascinating, unraveling mystery and its complex relationships between characters. Though our protagonist feels a bit generic, his unique abilities add a solid spice to gameplay. DONTNOD continues to be an expert at crafting unique and engaging stories.

Twin Mirror is a fun, pulp detective story filled with interesting plot beats and characters, hampered only by the inclusion of strange mini-games and a really boring central character.

Twin Mirror tries to improve the formula that Dontnod has previously provided with success through works of the caliber of Life is Strange or Tell Me Why. The gameplay follows closely everything the developer has already done many times before, and it will undoubtedly convince fans of the genre, although its length and predictability do harm it overall.

Twin Mirror is an interesting twist It has fabulous ideas such as the metaphorical and visual representation of the character's mental problems, Without the episodic format ends up offering a very run-down story in which more restraint is needed to delve into the characters and their relationships.

Awkward, riddled with plot holes and unintentionally offensive, this is Dontnod's worst offering to date. [Eurogamer Avoid]

I really tried to like the game, the protagonist, the NPCs, the story but I just didn't.

The protagonist ist as bland as a sack of flour and don't get your hopes up people, because he will stay that way. You don't care who he is, what will happen to him... You just don't care (which would also be a fitting name for the game by the way).

Same goes for the NPCs. You start with knowing nothing about them, you end with knowing a tiny bit more about them but over all - again - you just don't care. There is not really anything happening that generates emotions or some real dilemmas.
I mean sure, the story is supposed to be all sad (dead best friend etc.) but it just don't gets the tone right for the vast majority of the story.

The game play does NOT help the overall game experience. If you can look at an object or talk to a person at the first try without walking back and forth once, you are lucky.

The story as a whole is short and given the boringness of it all that is sad, because if you watch a boring movie or read a boring bock time seems normally to stand still.

Another thing that really doesn't help the game is the abstinence of any kind of visible facial emotion. How are you supposed to care about ANY character in the game if all you see is an emotionless face, that is supposed to show anger, joy, sadness ( the whole "Inside Out" thing) but just looks like this one particular Kristen Steward meme?

I could go on and on... But let's just say that I don't recommend buying it. Wait for a very good sale offer and spend a couple of bucks but full price or close to that?! Nope.

Imagine "Deadly Premonition", with the same kind of small town archetypes and a very similar hero. And now take out all of the goofiness, theImagine "Deadly Premonition", with the same kind of small town archetypes and a very similar hero. And now take out all of the goofiness, the jokes, the comedy, the collectables and the wonky car. And replace it with the boring dystopia that it would be in reality, and what Francis York and Zack would look like if they grew up in that reality, starting with the medication they would have to take.

Yeah, this won't be for everyone, and you will have to be in the mood. A lot of people will just be plain bored or disappointed because they expected a murder mystery you solve with superpowers, but that's really just the cover of this book.

Don't expect a technical marvel, but it's polished, well-designed and with only few exceptions has exactly the right pacing and playtime. But I don't think that the motivations, symbolism and themes are as relateable and accessible to everyone like in Dontnod's other games. Which is one underlying theme of the game, right along with the conclusion that you shouldn't take it personal.

Ótima historia, como sempre, a dontnod arrasando em seus jogos. Os gráficos estão cada vez mais aprimorados e a trilha sonora linda demais.
