great game, i really wish there was an accessibility mode that just gave you a slight buff; something inbetween the "no fail mode" and how difficult the base game is.

my hands dont work so well anymore after RSI and muscle relaxers, im a bit slow with physical reaction time. the base game is almost too hard for me, yet the no fail mode is just too patronizing.

Beautiful, engaging and just outright tremendous game. Everything feels handcrafted and a work of love. The combat is engaging and difficult. The exploration is rewarding and the soundtrack is amazing. This is a must play for any fan of the genre. And even for those who aren't!

An incredible action-adventure game! It's fun, challenging and satisfying. The world is fun to explore, and the boss fights are tough but exciting. I've gotten lost many times, but the instruction booklet pages are a brilliant way to guide the player, and I've had many great "Aha!" moments. Overall, the game is designed incredibly well. Highly recommend!

Man, this game is fantastic. The art direction is to be congratulated and the gameplay is also very good. It's worth the experience and you can see that he is very inspired by zelda and dark souls.
I highly recommend it to anyone who likes Zelda-inspired games with a touch of difficulty.

Tunic is the only modern game that made me feel like I pulled out my NES with a new game. Amazing sense of nostalgia wrapped in a challenging but very rewarding puzzle/combat game.

Another masterpiece from Indy world. Not so much games I played were so attracting like that. Not so big world, but with huge number of points of interests, keeps you interested in discovering it.

Tutorial system probably not so original, but still unusual and very entertaining Battle system is acceptable, but not ideal, fair enough to me. Ofc, the title is inspired by Zelda and Souls

Unfortunately, unlike BOTW you’re not have all tools from the begging of the game, but most of them, so you need to spend couple of hours by completing action items to acquire all abilities, and only after that the entire game world will be opened to you.

Quite possibly one of my favorite games ever. The puzzles the world and the sense of discovery makes this game amazing and rewarding. People say that the combat was bad, but I had no problems and loved the combat as well as the enemies and huge bosses. This game kept me enthralled the whole time and is a must play.

This game is a beautiful masterpiece of world design and music. There are some issues with difficulty spikes, world progression/ exploration, due to the way the tutorial functions in game but all of these are by design decisions from the developer. Honestly I loved the game because it didn’t spoon feed you directions and made you explore and try out different things in order to progress. This game is a beautiful masterpiece of world design and music. However Tunic goes beyond it's influences and crafts itself it's unique and adorable world with a high level dose of nostalgia; offering players a good level of lore and secrets while charming you with a retro feel and it's clever puzzles.

In my opinion this game was designed around it's booklet, which is one of the main collectibles that you can find, in this beautifully drawn booklet you find how the game works and all the mechanics relevant to gameplay. After some reflection I realised that the game is a metroidvania were the key to progression is the knowledge that you gain about the game, from simple things as figuring out when you are invulnerable in a roll, to figuring out how to level up, the game gives you small bits and pieces of information for you to slowly make your way to the credits.

As much as I appreciated this mechanic in the game I did encounter some frustrating bits, this frustration was mostly due to how combat can at times feel unreliable. Dodges and guards do not always grant you safety as you'd expect, and the ever moving camera during boss fights made the hitboxes unreliable, I often took hits when I wasn't expecting it. This would be fine if the game was of a Zelda type difficulty, but the game throws at you quite difficult and challenging boss fights which made the frustration even worse. Apart from the boss fights the combat was mostly simplistic but functional, keeping you entertained but not feeling like the biggest focus of the game.

Apart from this small gripe, I do have to commend the game on it's artistry, music and level design. All of it was of the highest quality and the level design really shines with a particular emphasis on 2d worlds with 3d details that contain secrets and corners akin to games like Fez or Captain Toad. Another element that made me want to keep playing and get to the finish line in this game is it's pacing, the game did an excellent job for a metroidvania, I never felt like I had to massively backtrack or find my way, often times the path forward was quite clear or explained simply enough in the booklet. Props to the devs in making a game with such a great connection to retro games, but giving you all the ingame information for you to complete and 100% the game in a fun and slightly challenging manner.

I finished the game with it's true ending, took me around 14 hours to do so.

    Thoughts-
Overall, Tunic is one of those games that totally leans into its execution to tremendous effect. It doesn’t reinvent or revolutionize its core concepts as much as I would have liked, nor does it bring any one gameplay component into the fold that I haven’t seen before, but the way it does patch everything together with its own sense of style is something to behold for the genre. Despite being a little light on depth and lacking a major gameplay hook of its own, I suspect most who pursue this adventure will find little, if anything, they don’t admire about it.

For a one-man single-developer project, this is amazing. Even for at medium sized developer, hvis game is amazing. It's diffucult to argue this game should be any less than 8/0 IMO

Expand

Tunic is truly a masterpiece of game design: a modern day Zelda with all the complexity it needs to thrive with gamers today. If you like running around a beautiful fantasy land, sword fighting fantasy baddies, or translating ancient languages, Tunic will have something for you to sink your teeth into. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend picking this foxy little gem up.
