Definitely not a long game, but I enjoyed it though. Graphics 10/10, story 9/10, mechanics and levels were sometimes buggy where the archer wouldn't shoot, and there is a bug where you can't climb up and progress on the snowy level. Minus point for the snowy chapter which began a series of idiotic chapters after that one. Up to that level, the game was pretty enjoyable, but later not.Definitely not a long game, but I enjoyed it though. Additional minus points for horrific last boss made by a monkey, who has no slightest clue how to design a level. Biggest disappointing ever Expand

Trine 4 is a co-op puzzle 2D platformer game, taking place in a fictional, lighthearted world of sword and sorcery. This game is a return to form for the developers, after the bad reviews they got for Trine 3.

There is a story, but is rudimentary at best as it lacks any depth and ambition. It's just an excuse for the 3 heroes to go on a new adventure of puzzle-solving. The graphics

The graphics are gorgeous. There are 3D polygonal heroes, objects and NPCs set in a 2D world. And the music is nice. But the voice overs are mediocre.

Gameplay-wise it's a standard puzzle 2D platformer game with physics-based objects that can be manipulated. Every room you visit is a puzzle that has to be solved, and every once in a while you have to fight some enemies or the occasional boss. This game's difficulty is quite low overall, but in the final third of the game there are a series of awful puzzles. Not difficult, but awfully designed. Not only that, the whole game's puzzles feel like they were designed around a single player who can switch characters at will, but aren't balanced well enough for 3 players. There are a few puzzles towards the end that me and my 2 mates couldn't pass through, I think we only beat them thanks to unexpected bugs and glitches, or physics that went haywire. I was having some fun in the first 12 chapters or so, but after that and until the end credits I had an unpleasant experience.

I would play a Trine 5 in the future, but please balance the puzzles for 1, 2 and 3 players, not just 1. And make sure to design the puzzles in a better way.

I prefered playing the 3rd version of the game. This one is good, but more difficult for the kids to play.

Trine 4 is another solid installment in the Trine franchise, with much more of the same gameplay fans have come to expect. Its unique blend of platforming, puzzling, and combat challenges can keep up to three friends laughing together for a few casual gaming sessions.

Trine 4 has a high level of polish and beautifully imagined levels, with backgrounds that stopped us in our tracks and whimsical details hiding throughout the levels. The art direction of the series has truly evolved in a gorgeous way and the fourth installment is the most beautiful to date.

Players will recognize many of the same tricks from previous games at their disposal, but the Wizard, Knight, and Rogue have some new tools to unlock as well. The pacing of the game is rather flat, but is punctuated by boss fights which are very cleverly done and provide a nice tempo change in difficulty when they arrive (the final boss is particularly good). Puzzles are rarely challenging - especially with three players at your disposal - but the sheer fun of actions like stacking boxes, swinging from hooks, and bouncing water off your shield makes sure that they're enjoyable regardless.

The game is held back mostly by its writing, story, and characters. The narrative never quite hits the right chord between dramatic and humorous, and the characters are extremely flat - especially for heroes we've spent four games with.

Regardless, probably the best game in the series to date and a fun package through-and-through. Highly recommended if you have a couple friends to accompany you on your adventure.

Trine 4 became for me the 1st completed game from this series and left a good impression. But still, let's go through the cons. The game is designed for children, so you can't really find fault with simple puzzles, but the variety of monsters can be very disappointing (bosses don't count, they are gorgeous here, even though there are few of them). Another minus is that the game is very short, we literally went through it in 2 times for 3-4 hours. But as I said, everything is interrupted by an amazing picture and musical accompaniment. Play it and you won't regret it! Expand

A pleasant return to the roots with something extra. Minor mistakes and some fights may slightly spoil the experience, but not enough to make fans stop playing. [Issue#299]

Trine is back and it hard to not see it as a success. The developers aren’t really trying to surprise us with anything here but the starved fans should welcome it as a really well made encore of Trine 2. [13/2019, p.82]

It feels as if Frozenbyte created this colorful, riveting platformer to prove to us and themselves that this series is far from over. The fate of Trine does seem bright, but the developers should really stop reusing their past ideas.
