This one is by far the most polished version. My one criticism of previous Trines is you could kind of cheese your way through the puzzles with all wizard's conjured geometry. You often had an unsatisfied feeling that you didn't actually solve the puzzle, but just "got past it". Trine 4 is MUCH more satisfying. It's a far tighter game with simple, but clever puzzles. And it's just a fantastic stress reliever and escape from this horrible year we've been having. Just what I needed right now.

Welcome back Trine! We missed you. Hello everyone. It's me, Jayden Pickens. I have returned from my slumber and the first thing I played through was Trine 4. What an amazing game this is. Let's start at the beginning. Trine 4 returns to the 2d style of Trine 1 & 2. It's not in 3d like Trine 3. It's not in 3d like Trine 3. Storywise, Trine 4 takes place some years/months after Trine 3... that is a fact proven by something in Trine 4, but I won't reveal where. That's for you to find out. We have a new story involving a prince whose nightmares are overtaking every place he visits. This time our heroes are summoned by the astral academy headmaster to take care of the problem. That's the story. I loved all the references to the previous adventures of our heroes. If you remember previous games, you'll have a smile on your face many times. When it comes to the gameplay, it's basically Trine 2 but with some new mechanics, I love the fairy rope and dream shield the most. With all of our abilities we can now solve most of the puzzles in many ways, not just one. You can also upgrade your heroes, but I've finished the game 100% without spending even a point. That means you can finish the entire game without upgrading anything... it will certainly make the game harder, but if you enjoy the challenge like me then go for it. I don't need to tell you about the graphics, because they're gorgeous as usual. Sounds are nice too. Overall, this game is a must for anyone who liked the previous games. It's my fav part of Trine right after Trine: Enchanted Edition for which I will always have a soft spot. If you have never played Trine before, that's not a deal breaker. You won't understand some references, but you won't be lost either. Go buy this stuff on gog, steam or whatever (but, I'd recommend gog, because you actually get to keep your game, not rent it). Pickens approves! Expand

Thank you so much for this game.

It took everything I loved about the franchise, polished it up and made the best of the series.

    Fantastic .

Probably the best in the franchise. If you like platform games, this is a must.

PROS: perfect gamepad controls + wonderful ambient + amazing graphics + great gameplay + different abitities depending of the character + etc
CONS: wek story + a bit repetitive (always: stop and puzzle, stop and puzzle, and a battle from time to time)

Great game especially for coop with friends. Lots of fun. Good voice over, good music, nice art. The only thing that should be improved is the difficulty. Fighting monsters is way too easy.

Trine4 is still beautiful and has some lovely animals, which I really like. I expect the series to go on and on.

In addition, I know that making the game too difficult may affect sales. However, keeping it simple also made me think it wasn't fun enough to repeat.
Anyway, I look forward to Frozenbyte making a better trine in the future.

Trine 4 is a return to the 2.5D form of the classic Trine games many of us fondly remember. I can't imagine anyone who liked Trine 1 and 2 will be disappointed with this game. Yes, it is "more of the same", but it's not like there are any other beautiful, kindhearted fantasy puzzle platformers out there, so another Trine after so many years is very welcome.

Yes, it is "more of the same", but it's not like there are any other beautiful, kindhearted fantasy puzzle platformers out there, so another Trine after so many years is very welcome.

In this game our familiar trio of heroes are following an errant prince through storybook fantasy landscapes, solving puzzles and light platforming challenges as they go. I found the puzzles to be fairly easy, but there were still several that had me scratching my head for a while. The emphasis on this game seems to be traversing levels fairly quickly, with only a few real stumpers.

They also have clamped down on the ability system and made it a lot tighter. In past games I remember you could go down certain skill paths that opened up unique solutions to puzzles, sometimes just through what felt like brute forcing it through conjuring a whole lot of blocks, for example. In this game it feels like your skill paths don't open up any new solutions to puzzles, which I actually kind of like as it makes the game feel a lot tighter.

The only problem I've noticed is on PC the audio isn't quite right, i often can't hear characters talking over the background music and sounds. This can be mostly fixed by playing with the settings so it's not a big deal.

Trine 4 is a great choice for anyone who likes some a good dose of puzzles and whimsy with their gaming. I'm so glad this game got made!

Definitely not a long game, but I enjoyed it though. Graphics 10/10, story 9/10, mechanics and levels were sometimes buggy where the archer wouldn't shoot, and there is a bug where you can't climb up and progress on the snowy level. Minus point for the snowy chapter which began a series of idiotic chapters after that one. Trine 4 is a co-op puzzle 2D platformer game, taking place in a fictional, lighthearted world of sword and sorcery. This game is a return to form for the developers, after the bad reviews they got for Trine 3.

There is a story, but is rudimentary at best as it lacks any depth and ambition. It's just an excuse for the 3 heroes to go on a new adventure of puzzle-solving. The graphics

The graphics are gorgeous. There are 3D polygonal heroes, objects and NPCs set in a 2D world. And the music is nice. But the voice overs are mediocre.

Gameplay-wise it's a standard puzzle 2D platformer game with physics-based objects that can be manipulated. Every room you visit is a puzzle that has to be solved, and every once in a while you have to fight some enemies or the occasional boss. This game's difficulty is quite low overall, but in the final third of the game there are a series of awful puzzles. Not difficult, but awfully designed. Not only that, the whole game's puzzles feel like they were designed around a single player who can switch characters at will, but aren't balanced well enough for 3 players. There are a few puzzles towards the end that me and my 2 mates couldn't pass through, I think we only beat them thanks to unexpected bugs and glitches, or physics that went haywire. I was having some fun in the first 12 chapters or so, but after that and until the end credits I had an unpleasant experience.

I would play a Trine 5 in the future, but please balance the puzzles for 1, 2 and 3 players, not just 1. And make sure to design the puzzles in a better way.

Trine 4 has a high level of polish and beautifully imagined levels, with backgrounds that stopped us in our tracks and whimsical details hiding throughout the levels. The art direction of the series has truly evolved in a gorgeous way and the fourth installment is the most beautiful to date.

Players will recognize many of the same tricks from previous games at their disposal, but the Wizard, Knight, and Rogue have some new tools to unlock as well. The pacing of the game is rather flat, but is punctuated by boss fights which are very cleverly done and provide a nice tempo change in difficulty when they arrive (the final boss is particularly good). Puzzles are rarely challenging - especially with three players at your disposal - but the sheer fun of actions like stacking boxes, swinging from hooks, and bouncing water off your shield makes sure that they're enjoyable regardless.

The game is held back mostly by its writing, story, and characters. The narrative never quite hits the right chord between dramatic and humorous, and the characters are extremely flat - especially for heroes we've spent four games with.

Regardless, probably the best game in the series to date and a fun package through-and-through. Highly recommended if you have a couple friends to accompany you on your adventure.

We 3 had lots of fun in coop and some good laughs at the sometimes wonky physics. Graphics are wonderful. The bosses present quite a challenge.

Unfortunately, we got disconnected way too often. There is a quota on savegames which means you need to delete some everytime you want to join a lobby. You also have to re-spend your skill points every time.

It feels as if Frozenbyte created this colorful, riveting platformer to prove to us and themselves that this series is far from over. The fate of Trine does seem bright, but the developers should really stop reusing their past ideas.
