Sep 19, 2025Trails 1st is the type of RPG I can definitively point towards and say “This is a must play.” It’s up there with Dragon Quest XI as a fantastic entry into RPGs for newcomers, as well as a master-class in RPG design for genre veterans. The world, the characters, the progression — everything just flows extremely well. It’s not often that developers get a second crack at an existing game, and remakes can sometimes miss the mark, but I feel more than satisfied as a new player with the game, and am eager to see what comes next. Now begins the long (but not too long) wait for the Trails 2nd remake. Maybe I’ll check out some of the older Legend of Heroes games while I wait...

It’s an amazing RPG til the end and the remake only enhances the original experience. Not many games can keep my interest this long, especially when it comes to combat and elongated story scenes—and the lore behind it all is both well-thought out and incredibly imaginative. Don’t miss this one for the “skies”.

It’s a pity that all the care dedicated to the visuals and battle system didn’t fully carry over to the adaptations just yet.

Sep 17, 2025If 1st Chapter is a bit lighter and less complex than its later iterations, then that is also in keeping in the spirit of the original game as the beginning of an epic saga. If you've always wanted to experience the wonder of the Trails series but didn't know where to start, then there are no excuses as this faithful remake is the definitive way to begin that long and winding trail. Hopefully, the remake of its second chapter follows up swiftly.

By giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions, the Japanese studio delivers an ideal remake to discover its flagship franchise. Thanks to an excellent combat system, polished graphics, and above all, a successful French translation, the first adventures of Estelle and Joshua are more captivating and accessible than ever. And while the story is driven by a fascinating universe and endearing characters, we can still criticize that it takes a while to get going and suffers from some lengths. Now, we can't wait to discover the remake of the next episode, which is considered one of the best installments in the saga and is already in the pipeline...

Oct 6, 2025Nihon Falcom has done a spectacular job visually, giving it a beautiful cel-shaded style that brings the characters to life. If you've never played this series before, I envy you: this is the best introduction you're going to find. [Recommended]
