The PVP content in the f2p part of the game is just emberassing. The menu is confusing and the paywall gave me the rest to delete the game. I swore to myself not to reinstall uplay ever again but i did it for trackmania. Got disappointed again....

I've played/bought all the games of Trackmania and I have to say that one of my favourite things was the editor. Now, it seems that I need to pay each year to build new tracks which, in fact, it looks like a scam (please, don't get me wrong, I would pay if it was the full-game). I can't stand a game which is based on a subscription to get all the offline features.

I am comparing this to the first game of the series I've played and most games that followed it, so the list I compare it with includes of the following games:
    Nations Forever
    United Forever
    DS
    Wii
    ManiaPlanet
    Turbo

As you might see, that's pretty much every game of the TM series, but as the newest game of such a great franchise, it certainly won't disappoint... Or will it? I only can talk from my perspective, being the best person to judge it (lots of experience with the series), while also being the worst (not a new player, I'm biased).

    Now my actual review:
TM Club (as I'm gonna call this game) is the worst game of the series, I'd even the say worst racing game I have ever played.
It all starts when you try to open the game. When I try to, it crashes 4-5 times, before it FINALLY starts. My friend can't even start the game. So after 10 minutes of just trying to start the game, we're greeted by an "amazing" menu. The first thought I had was "am I playing a phone game with an Android Emulator?", but no, it was just the awful menu... Nothing that bad, maybe the rest of the game is fun? I started the first race and... was disappointed within seconds, the game crashed AGAIN. After over a MINUTE of loading (just to remind you, this game is less than 1.4gb). Okay, maybe after trying it again? In the end, I could finally play the first race after 15 minutes of restarting, how exactly did this pass quality check?
I started the race and immediately felt like something was off. What it was? The graphics. They were not only bad, but horrible. The trees look worse than the standard trees in Unity, and that's hard to do... After driving a few meters, you can see the "slopes" in this game, or just garbage... At least the car looks decent, but the rest of the graphics are just awful.
But how about the sound design and OST? It's impossible to ruin that, just copy and paste it... But not, they felt like completely changing the music. From classic chill music, to the worst "techno" like music you ever have heard. Thought Hardstyle was boring? No, THIS is. Maybe some people do like it, but I don't. The sound design isn't any better, I'd say someone was like **** this game is released in 5 minutes and we don't have any" and just searched for "car sound" on Google and used that.
Maybe the driving saves it? NO! Most of the time it doesn't feel like you're driving a car, it would feel better to drive those tracks with WOT tanks.

If you want to play a good game for free, just download Nations Forever, please.

I love Trackmania, but they should not have introduced a subscription based model!
Stripping the basic features the predecessors had and putting them behind a yearly payment is bad practice.
As a long time fan who bought every previous game I feel offended.

The idea behind trackmania is simple but good. Race against the clock for medals or compete with other players online. This franchise had its peak with tm nations forever. This game maybe once wanted to be a remake of TMNF.

Why 3 points out of 10?

Still nice gameplay. Car can be handled quite precisely. But there is a lack of content (cant drive user tracks and the summer 2020 tracks from nadeo are made with no heart and effort). Same for the graphis - quite ugly. Add the strange business model and then you have your 3 out of 10.

Game could still be fixed, if some adjustments are made. Till then i will probably play TMNF again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have only played Trackmania Nations Forever before, I was hoping that this game will be somewhat similar, its not. The tutorial is just frustrating, It looks like half of tutorial maps are just copy paste of previous track with only different terrain. Summer 2020 tracks are horrible, they totally don't have trackmania spirit. Having to slow down and watch out for traps hidden around the corner or just after hillock is counterintuitive for that kind of racing game. The only good summer 2020 track, which reminded me TNF is track nr. 22. And of course the business model... Paying for yearly subscription to have such a basic things as a chat and advanced track editor is just awful.

If you are looking for Trackmania Nations Forever experience then don't even think about this game. Just pretend that it doesn't exist, for your good.

Ubisoft has become a money-hungry greedy company that want a SUBSCRIPTION based economy for this game...For shame. Only the club members get to use their own skins, so what is the point to customise cars for starters and standard players if we cant even use our own skins.

The base of the game is good as the original Stadium was good in itself. However the features are very limited behind a paywall and the Starter demo version doesn't let you do anything - can't play with friends, can't play custom maps, can't even chat. The game is based around community and I have serious doubts that they will be able to bring enough players in to make it actually fun.The base of the game is good as the original Stadium was good in itself. When it comes to updates to Stadium, the new blocks seem gimmicky and majority of them probably won't be used by trackbuilders. I can't say whether the quality of life updates are good or not as I don't think it's worth buying to try them out.

You might be asking why i write mostly Service instead of Game that is because you are not buying the Game you are buying a Service which in it self means that you have no rights for the Game to be working or even that they need to do anything to make this game playable!
This is mostly why i am worried over Games in total that use these kinds of methodes just to make you pay and they dont even need to do jack s***!
It is like buying a ticket for a ride you dont know and mostly i also dont see Nadeo or Ubuys***(my version of Ubisofts name since they put every good game they had into the ground and bury it 1000 km underground) do anything with the money except maybe saying its for the server but then again they could have done it like the games before who didnt needed Ubuys***s server!
The way they monetize this game is just greed infested and doesnt need to be like the games before showed!

The Gameplay is still the same thats one thing but is it worth it i for my part say no since just thinking of buying a service instead of a game and then also not having it for whenever i want to play it makes me not even consider playing it ever again!

if i want to play trackamania i will go and play the old ones since i am not bound to play it and i can play whatever i like whenever i like!

There is no water in the game, new Ice blocks are almost unplayable, new mechanics is just mediocre, graphics look made out of plastic, and starter pack doesn't include "chatting" in game. The only good thing about this game is the new look of cars, and maybe super turbo. This game is a big disappointment for me. I'm gonna stick with TM Stadium, far better game.

Chat is disabled for starter pack. In a multiplayer game. Chat is disabled if you won't pay up. OK. It has some neat ideas, I like the new surfaces and boosts and the rest, but god the interface is a real cancer. I get they made this game for arcade gaming... Oh wait, they want to go esport with this one. So what's the point putting that behind a paywall?

They added a whole bunch of new blocks and modifiers, but the extra variery does not alleviate the fact that they make the racing experince worse. Most of the new modifiers try to add new mechanics at the expense of removing control from your car eg. low friction surfaces, no steering, no engine, fragile. Ice blocks are the worst thing to be added to the game, they feel TERRIBLE; I loath any time I encounter ice on a track. The menus are still rough and not improved over any passed TM games.

The most eggregious part is the pricing: the game is priced at AAA pricing for a game that is definitely not a AAA game. Not only that, but it's subscription based, so that AAA cost only gets you a 3 year subscription.

The menu also isn't great. A lot of terms are just unfitting for what you're actually about to click.
I have to ask: what's wrong with the term "Servers"? Everybody knows what it is and what you can expect when clicking on it. Instead you have Club Rooms.

Also, the player page (so the player profile) isn't even working at the time of me writing this.
It's not broken, it's just not finished, or to quote the Website:
"It is still an work in progress, but you can already manage your Dedicated Server Accounts and view the maps you submitted to Map Review."
It's not important, but I expect games to be released in a finished state, this includes external features like player profiles, too.

But that's not really why the game deserves a rating of 0, so far the game would be a solid 7.
However, where it all falls apart for me (and obviously not just for me), is when we take the business model into consideration.

Expecting people to pay annually is unspeakably greedy.
They avoid the term "subscription", but let's be straight forward here:
    If you want to
    - communicate via chat messages,
    - make maps,
    - apply or make skins
    - be part of the community in any way, be it online or offline
you have to pay. Call it what you want, it's not making any difference to how I feel about it.
This is anti-consumer and I can not let this go.
It's unnecessary, it's cheeky and straight up unfair to the fans who are the only (!!) reason why the games are great. No user created content means no Trackmania.

    That's all.

I don't care about your free Nadeo servers. People like me can just create their own like we always do. It's cheaper for you and it lets us better servers, because they do not handle the load.
The development was clearly rushed at the end to be ready for the Zerator's TM Cup. Cam is buggy, the car is less powerful than a wooden car (Trial, RPG are unplayable now). The menus are awful. Trackmania was made by its community, they stay forever. I checked today and on Steam, there are still 300 people playing 12 years old games, and their still sharing videos on Youtube of the previous game.
You tried to justify the yearly price by 2 things:
    - new content, we'll have 4 campaigns a year of 25 poor maps. Whereas the community is creating maps: there are 533 232 maps today on TMNF Tm-exchange. Is more than 100 tracks a day over 12 years.
    - keep the development of TM alive.
We keep Trackmania alive for years. Don't take your players as whales.
You told us that you wanted to make TM an esports game, why did you choose this DA? And this cam 3? The game is less readable for the player and the viewer.
I'm not going to buy this game at full price every year.
Look what Paradox said: "Our DLC model is based on the idea that you pay for new content after the full game release. This helps to finance the further development of the game, which is of gain for all players." You were not honest.
I'll keep playing the previous TM, keep my server up. But I won't pay every year for a game, that I play sporadically.
Imagine if I paid 30€ every year for TMUF and TM2. It would have cost me 570€ and I keep playing those games.
I like TrackMania, we made it together, you wanted to divorce.

Apart from servers and a short campaign, the developers have not really prepared anything for the release. Most of the content of the new Trackmania is a reworking of old, and the rest is created by fans... again. In fact, Nadeo and Ubisoft only provide servers and features to meet the user's creative needs. On the other hand, this is what Trackmania has always been. However, there are still questions: how the studio will develop the game further and whether the subscription model will pay off. We haven't received any answers to them yet.

Trackmania excels at everything fans fell in love with years ago: a true race with dozens of bizarre tracks and high speeds. The game unfortunately comes with a disclaimer: the different subscriptions, menus and leaderboards are very confusing. That is especially bad for new players, while Trackmania is such a good idea on paper.
