The 'gaming demographic', I'm sure you're all to aware, encompass almost a half century of generations now & games such as Toxikk are a rarity, in so far as games that have not alone managed to unite the generations but having done so by taking the best elements of the classics {Quake, Red Faction, Ultimate Tournament ETC.} and improving on them to produce probably the smoothest fast flowing, action packed AFPS of all time.
    Kudos Toxikk.

Toxikk's tagline is "frag like it's 1999". It makes no pretence of the fact it's inspired by "arena" FPS titles from the late 90's, early 00's, especially UT2004, and although I was never a big fan of such games at the time, so can't comment on how close this lives up to those ideals, I can say it's enormous fun to play, and the basic premise of no levelling up, no aiming down sights,Toxikk's tagline is "frag like it's 1999". With Toxikk, there's just you, your gun and your skills. No health regen to help you out, no running away and hiding (or camping) to pad your K/D. No need to worry about load-outs, classes, or configuring the game in some way to give yourself an advantage your skills don't warrant. All players are equal, there's nothing you can buy to fast-track yourself to better performance, no amount of grinding will make you better than you can achieve through practise.

Since the mid 00's I've stood by and watched the COD's and BF's of this world drag the FPS genre into the gutter, longing for the return of a true "oldskool" shooter. Toxikk may well be that oldskool shooter I've been dreaming of.

Incredibly sad to see an actual good arena shooter get released without it getting attention at all.
The developers have done an awesome job with adding new features without ruining the arena shooter feel, and there is not really anything to complain about except the low player count.

"Frag like it's 1999" -- This couldn't be anymore true. Toxikk brings back the classic arena FPS that we all use to know and love. Everyone playing is on a level playing field and start out with nothing. It's up to YOU to be skillful with aim & movement in order to pummel your enemies to the ground.

When boiled down and stripped apart to their depths of game play mechanics, it can be debated that AFPS games mostly derive from two archetypes; namely Quake & UT, and while most players of the genre have played both, it cannot be overlooked that all AFPS gamers will always have a preference.

When boiled down and stripped apart to their depths of game play mechanics, it can be debated that AFPS games mostly derive from two archetypes; namely Quake & UT, and while most players of the genre have played both, it cannot be overlooked that all AFPS gamers will always have a preference.

That being said, my preferrence was not Quake nor UT, but what UT became. What once was a simple movement system, evolved into a more complicated dodge, dodge jumping and wall dodging system. This, for me at least, was an enormous factor which added another layer of depth. That, as well as two (or more) fire modes for each of the weapons, as well as vehicular modes.

UT2003 and 2004 took a "simple" mechanic and made it so much more interesting. Something that I felt was lost in UT3 somehow, as well as the new UT. It's good... but it's not UT2004 good.

Now, I'm not saying that TOXIKK is UT2004. Although the inspiration is undeniably very strong, it isn't deliberately trying to copy it. From what I can tell, it is taking aspects that made UT2004 special, and delivering them in a similar "feeling". It's quite easy really. If you loved UT2004 as much as I did, you will love TOXIKK. That's it.

However, it must be said that nothing is perfect. That much is fact, and it applies here too. In it's current (V1.01) state, it does have "little" content. A few official game modes and twelve different maps. Although more are planned, it is somewhat limited for longevious replayability. However, for the price, that's a small compromise as the game play makes up for any shortcomings.

This game has everything that made playing games like UT and Q3 fun, stays true to proven concepts and brings some nice additions like vehicles or a temporary personal cloak with it.
The skill class system separates players of different skill levels, so players new to the genre or the game can have some fun too without being crushed by veterans with 15 years of AFPS experience.

Remember Quake? Remember Unreal Tournament? Remember Tribes? Timeless twitch shooters we all reminisce about when the slightest mention of a LAN party comes up. Toxikk is in the exact same league as the greats. It's fast, it's smooth, it's relentless and more importantly I get an adrenaline rush every single time I play.

Hats off to Reakktor for pulling off something we all thought was long lost in a world of sub-par military shooters. If you ever read this Reakktor Studios; please let me know if I can every contribute to keeping this game on it's path to filling a void I know a generation of gamers have had for a very long time.

Great arena-fps that moves like unreal tournament but shoots like quake 3. Has acceptable performance and lots of customization via in-game settings and config tweaking.

The gameplay is fast paced, hardcore, and competitive. As the game lacks RNG the better player almost always wins.

This is Unreal Tournament 4 as it should be. TOXIKK is the perfect replacement for UT3 which unfortunately only works half. TOXIKK, it seems, offers a free - free basic version in which you can simply clap with other players. For cutomazions etc. you have to buy the game.

Arena shooter with top balance and current graphics, highly recommended

Picking the game back up with the final release (now that I have a PC that can actually run it well), I'm having a blast with it. As much as I like Unreal Tournament 3, it changed movement drastically-- this wouldn't have been a problem, had classic Unreal style movement not died out. This game feels like a breath of fresh air even among a resurgence in so-called "retro" games.

It really does feel like the Unreal Tournament 4 I wanted to play (but ultimately didn't find) in the pre-alpha. It's a proper callback to UT2004 with its own twists and excellent level design, powered by Unreal Engine 3 and highly customizable. Between that and the free-edition model allowing just about anyone to play online with full access to the core maps and NO arbitrary freemium restrictions, I feel that this game not only met but exceeded the expectations I had coming in.

Not that this helps, anyway. I may love Unreal Tournament, and have nothing but praise when fighting bots... but I severely lack an essential component: skill. That won't stop me from having a great time with the game, of course, it's well thought out and easy to pick up at any time, especially with the Quick Match feature that just throws you into matchmaking the moment you open the game (a launch option and entirely optional, of course).

It won't cost you anything to give it a shot, so the question isn't "what is this game..." it's "why aren't you playing it?"

A hectic pace and great maps make this a very fun arena shooter. The vehicles are unusual for this genre, but a welcome addition as they add a fun variation. The movement system that Reakktor have made is quite excellent; once you master it you'll be bouncing off walls like Spider-Man and zipping through the maps very fast. Highly recommended if you are a arena fan.

A very fun arena shooter. It plays a lot like Unreal Tournament if any of you whippersnappers are old enough to remember that game. It's very refreshing to play a game like this after playing so many similar military shooters over the past decade. If you haven't played an arena style shooter in a long time it will take a bit to remember how to shoot while moving like a maniac but when you finally dodge a bunch of rockets to land a quick snap, aerial sniper rifle headshot you'll get such a rush.

The graphics are also top notch. And the level design is great. Some really cool locations (that giant wind turbine level?).

And you can try it out with the free version which is more than just a demo it actually saves your rank and it never runs out you just don't get access to all the levels and you can't vote on the gamemode at the end of the match.

Now if there is a downside to this game it's the skill class system. This is like matchmaking rating on other games but it applies to all matches (there is no competitive mode) and you're always aware of your rank. That by itself might not be bad but the servers are divided by class level which splits up the player base. There are some servers which allow any class level but they aren't part of the quick join pool. This is ostensibly to keep new players from getting stomped by older players but what happens in practice is when you look at the server browser you'll see lots of servers with 3 or 4 players playing instead of servers that are completely filled with live players. I took a point off the score because of this.

Besides that though it's a great game. I own most of the top shooters out today and this is the game I'm having the most fun with.

Grandioso!!!
