Toxikk is a great game, but it's not the 1999.

Toxikk is a great arena shooter, but lacking one element that would make it unique - especially in terms of available weapons. Enthusiasts of classic shooters, especially Unreal Tournament, should check it out nevertheless - there's even a very handy free version.

Incredibly sad to see an actual good arena shooter get released without it getting attention at all.
The developers have done an awesome job

The developers have done an awesome job with adding new features without ruining the arena shooter feel, and there is not really anything to complain about except the low player count.

It makes no pretence of the fact it's inspired by "arena" FPS titles from the late 90's, early 00's, especially UT2004, and although I was never a big fan of such games at the time, so can't comment on how close this lives up to those ideals, I can say it's enormous fun to play, and the basic premise of no levelling up, no aiming down sights, skills based aiming and movement systems etc. greatly appeal to me since I started gaming in, as it happens, 1999, back in the days before all the "fluff" of modern games, especially modern military shooters, took so much away from from what made great games great: the simple joy of playing them!

With Toxikk, there's just you, your gun and your skills. No health regen to help you out, no running away and hiding (or camping) to pad your K/D. No need to worry about load-outs, classes, or configuring the game in some way to give yourself an advantage your skills don't warrant. All players are equal, there's nothing you can buy to fast-track yourself to better performance, no amount of grinding will make you better than you can achieve through practise.

Since the mid 00's I've stood by and watched the COD's and BF's of this world drag the FPS genre into the gutter, longing for the return of a true "oldskool" shooter. Toxikk may well be that oldskool shooter I've been dreaming of.

It saddens me that I couldn't proclaim my love toward/for this gem on your site until just now.
The 'gaming demographic', I'm sure you're all to aware, encompass almost a half century of generations now & games such as Toxikk are a rarity, in so far as games that have not alone managed to unite the generations but having done so by taking the best elements of the classics {Quake, Red Faction, Ultimate Tournament ETC.} and improving on them to produce probably the smoothest fast flowing, action packed AFPS of all time.
    Kudos Toxikk.
