Easily one of the most extensive DLCs, Realm of the Wood Elves has way more content than the expansion packs of old. Overall the difficulty has been ramped up a bit as you'll now have to manage a new strategic resource called amber which is needed everywhere: buildings, tech, units and even your progression towards victory all rely on it. In the battles, Wood Elves need quite a bit more micro management than other races, but when you master them, they become very powerful indeed. The building trees and character skill trees are also more complicated than you'd be used to.

But if you've already been playing the game with all the other races for many months, the challenge is more than welcome and the addition of Wood Elves gives Total War Warhammer a fresh feeling and adds a lots more hours of enjoyment.

    Greed greed greed.
Bad game that is not finished. Ridicules diplomacy where you get declared on by your race even when you have their real enemy on the map between you. Do not buy and give such greedy companies any more money when they shortchange us players all the time. Wait until the sales when u get everything hopefullly cheaper.

The people saying this is extensive are clearly paid by CA.
This DLC contains a half finished faction which could if implemented properly be the most interesting and fun faction in the game.
What it is instead, is an over complicated micro managing nightmare with not a shred of sense to it getting in the way of you being able to even notice how cool it is that you have an army of trees.

What it is instead, is an over complicated micro managing nightmare with not a shred of sense to it getting in the way of you being able to even notice how cool it is that you have an army of trees. Every siege battle is the same map, and it isn't even a siege map it's just a regular generic flat map that you can't defend properly and can't run from. Everyone invades the forest so you're always fighting on that same generic boring map every single battle it's boring the first time but you will have to fight on it at least 200 times if you try the DLC campaign, the other wood elves fight each other more than the invaders, they have an extra requirement of amber which is a stupid resource you can't actually control and this turns what could be the greatest thing ever into a monotonous load of crap. Endless boring micro-managing and searching online for a mod to make this DLC more interesting which somehow still has not been made. Just don't bother until they actually make it worth paying for, they still can, wouldn't even be that hard for them, just gotta remove the nonsense making it too fiddly and add some good maps.

It's a game, that means it's meant to be fun, micro managing things between boring fights, is not fun.

Those who are looking to add some pointy-ears to their game will find a faction with a high skill ceiling and impressive design. At £14 for just one faction, however, you might want to wait until it’s on sale.

Realm of the Wood Elves brings a fairly exciting campaign to Total War: Warhammer. The amber resource and the new focuses on alliances versus war forces us to think again on how to approach potential enemies, but as you grow more powerful, the game becomes a little bit easier, and a little more boring.

The sheer unit variety presents some interesting new ways to take on opponents, but the Elves playstyle is both its biggest draw and possibly its biggest drawback as well.
