This is a very very great game, I'd love it. But it is not Lara Croft.
Nice cut scenes, nice BSO, very nice environments, nice RPG-like system, nice story line... but not a Tomb Raider.

I wished that the developers could have focused more on puzzles, survival and story rather than forcing Lara to become a simple killing machine. For instance, it would have been nice elaborate on survival skills, hunting, building shelters and so on. This part exists in the game to some lesser extent, but is never really required for finishing.

    REVIEW:
I picked this game up for $10 during steam’s end of year sale, and man was it a bargain! Running this game on a high-end PC allowed me to run, jump, and fight all over beautiful environments in what seems to be a popularized remake of a cult-favorite series. Beautiful environments aren’t everything, though: the prettiest game is still boring if you only move down an endless hallway. This is where Tomb Raider really shines-environments are interesting and varied. Cover is only important until you have killed all the baddies on the island (they don’t regenerate), but revisiting old areas to complete “find x objects” quests is still interesting because of the depth of the areas (most are at least 2-stories tall).
The other main advantage this game boasts is the number of action sequences. I can think of four sequences right off hand where I literally said out loud “Man, this is awesome!” I’d hate to wreck any surprises by gushing about what they were, but a game that actually manages to be memorable should be worth a few dollars.
Moving on to what didn’t go well, the story is frankly dumb. Sure the premise is cool: you are on an academic trip to find a long-lost culture and have to survive. Unfortunately the conclusion is pretty obvious from the beginning; the hints that are supposed to lead up to the surprise climax ending really just give away a pretty shallow plot. To their credit, however they at least attempted to fill it out with well-voiced audio clips that you find around.
My other gripe is combat. This game feels like is was supposed to be about platforming and exploring but somebody said it was boring and a combat system had to be grafted in wholesale. You have four weapons plus some hand-to-hand skills to work with, but this is third-person action as we saw it in the mid-2000s with clunky weapons and occasionally awkward hitboxes. If you find yourself in really close proximity, there is an okay counter system but I found that it was more fun to avoid fights all together, sniping the guards with a bow so I could explore at leisure.
BOTTOM LINE: This game has its weaknesses, but it is definitely worth your attention, especially if you can find it on sale!

It lost the "Tomb Raider" essence. That old mistery and ancient puzzle games that got you stuck in a level for hours.

That essence is gone. And I really miss it. So I'm rating this based on a personal value. But that's what users do.

And this is only the beginning. The game is overloaded with hundreds of QT E's making it look more like a movie rather than a game and also there are no puzzles at all. And finally this is an overwhelmingly brutal game, feature that I didn't really enjoy. I was definitely expecting a lot more from this game. In my opinion this is a very good game but NOT a Tomb Raider game. Expand

Story is a complete joke: you're stranded with your archaelogical team on a supposedly desert island which turns out being filled with rogue assassins which you'll have to kill one by one... originality and deepness are completely lacking on this compartment. Not to mention character developing or insight: is Lara Croft a screaming and crying helpless girl or a cold-blood killer who one-man (woman) slaughters the population of an entire island? She cannot be both, just saying.
Not to mention that after a few hours I really got tired of Lara's continous panting, gulping and crying, you don't do that if you're in danger, you don't make any noise, think rationally and survive (or, well, you can also cry and scream, get cought and die)

Gameplay is what disappointed me the most. Most of gameplay time (I'm not kidding, it's like a bit over 50%) you don't actually play. Instead you're offered cutscenes ending up in QUICK-TIME EVENTS and death... let me explain, when I see a cinematic/cutscene starting, I usually let my hands rest a bit, sit back and enjoy. Having QTEs on everything took back even that little enjoyment and relax I could get from watching graphically stunning cutscenes.
Also just to add more, I didn't like how character turning animation/response worked, mice are not analogic levers.

Now, on the technical compartment, graphic is stunning and music and effects are really good too. Same goes for photography, camera on cutscenes is always where it should be to get the best visual effect.
Also, graphic is extremely well optimized so you actually need average-to-low specs to achieve stunning graphical results.

So, if you like graphically stunning interactive cutscene manslaughter and you don't care what your character name is, you may like this game. Don't even think of buying it if you ever played one of the first tomb raiders, this will ruin your past experience even if it was a bad one.

The story is enjoyable but rather plain and uninteresting and the characters fail to grasp you in anyway, leaving a slightly empty feeling in terms of character development. The voice acting is nothing above average but it doesn't impact on the game too heavily overall and the character of Lara Croft is decently played.

The best aspect of this game is how much progress it shows gaming has made in terms of female representation and Tomb Raider 2013 is a brilliant example of it, this game is more revolutionary in terms of Feminism in gaming than design and that is why I have rated it as high as I have. Despite it's flaws this game is a good step forward.

The strongest parts of the game for me are its premise and setting. Yamatai is a well executed, mysterious, unsettling place, and uncovering its secrets, history, what is going on there, is very gratifying. Finding the documents, discovering relics, added a good deal to the historical enjoyment aspect. Thats where TR 2013 shines.

The main story is fairly alright, but not without issues. Its reasonably satisfying to see Lara going from a insecure girl to a hardened 'survivor', but what makes that character growth seem almost comical to a degree, is the amount of bodies youre forced to pile up. As Lara contemplates her first kill for a moment, what follows next is her going on a killing spree of hundreds of men, it creates one hell of ludonarrative dissonance. Is she really a survivor ? Does she really struggle ? All the talk about how much more grounded, how much more 'realistic' she is now, those arguments kinda fall on their face, because she's basically a 1 woman army throughout the game. Why cant there be much fewer enemies and an option to avoid certain combat situations altogether ? That would've made her struggle feel actually believable, as there is very little to relate with someone who kills hundreds with a relative ease.

And why are the sequences necessary where Lara is being ruffed up and injured badly ? That kind of stuff shouldnt happen to get the player to care about her, she's ship wrecked on an uncharted island, i already cared about wanting to get her off of it safely. You dont need to impale her with a rebar in the opening moments, its just so overdone, especially since she just pulls the thing out of her body and continues like nothing happaned a minute or two later, going against the whole 'realism' aspect even more.

The cast of characters isnt anything super praise worthy, but they and their motivations are fleshed out just well enough. When some of them die, you actually kinda feel for them as the game succeeds in showing that they actually meant something to Lara.

The biggest problem of the game has to be the fact that for a game called Tomb Raider, there isnt really any real tomb raiding involved. The closest thing are the 'Optional Tombs', dumbed down puzzle wise, mini challenges that reward you with salvage and XP. I mean really, Crystal Dynamics ? There was only one or two places in the mainline story that resembled actual tombs and thay didnt even involve any real puzzle solving, they were just cutscene/pass through/combat section areas.

As it was suppose to be an origin story, i can understand the exclusion of dual pistols, but even without them the gunplay is just average, with barely any feel and floaty handling. Though the biggest insult are the gun sounds, theyre really weak.
The choice to make the bow Lara's new go to weapon also gave me conflicting feelings, on one hand its the coolest weapon out of the bunch, its satisfying to use, especially when you upgrade it to the compound and competition variants, on the other, dual pistols are just much more bad arse. Though i do enjoy the bow.
The platforming, compared to previous games, has been made very casual, even when the game isnt on rails, there's almost no depth to it, and it can be rough around the edges.
The hand holding in this game is tiresome. You cant manually take cover or crouch on your own, its all automated. Survival instinct i dont mind too much, because if youre an experienced gamer, you barely have to rely on it.
And the QTE's... Previous TR games only had them on rare occasions and they werent obnoxious, while this reboot constantly bombards you with them.
And i dont get why they felt the need to progression-lock certain areas in early sections of the game, that you can only access later, going back to them during late or post-game is just so counterintuitive.

Im also not exactly a fan of the visual design of this Lara. She used to have a distinctively great, athletic, feminine body build, the 'realistic' approach here now makes her look just average. Realistic character design =/= always better. Also her facial animations lack expressional variety, even in cutscenes her face comes off as wooden at times.
Her wardrobe in the game is really bland too, really stupid decision to not include any of her iconic outfits.
And Camilla Luddington's performance can be all over the place.

While thats a fair amount of criticism, i do still think the game is decent enough, just wish it didnt scrap so much of what made Tomb Raider...well, Tomb Raider.

The gameplay is classic 3rd person mechanics with cover shooting, hiking, platforming and excellent puzzles. The side missions are adding extra fun.

The arsenal is classic except the bow, which is by far the most fun weapon with authentic mechanics.

The background is so well made. As you progress into the hostile island, you learn its history through cues, collectables and journals you earn, with several side stories.

But combat ruins a lot of the game for me: it's boring and there is way too much of it. There is no unique or even remotely interesting mechanics in fights, it's just shoot, take cover, reload and repeat. And you will repeat it a lot, during the game you'll kill literally hundreds of men.
It feels so out of place when compared to the story. In cutscenes Lara is just an ordinary person with extensive survivalist background, but in combat she is unstoppable killing machine that takes down dozen of armed enemies at once, soaking tons of bullets in process.

Overall Tomb Raider is a good game, but i think that it could've been much better if amount of shooting was scaled down.

Summarizing: I would say the game is decent. The story sucks, but it is not that big of a problem. It took me 11 hours to finish this game, which was just a bit too long for me, because it started to annoy me at the end. There is a multiplayer, but I didn't play it, because I didn't really feel like it. It's a decent game.

Let's start with what makes this game good. Now, some games choose to let the player start off with all core mechanics available. For example: Far Cry. You can either buy new weapons, abilities or other utilities to upgrade your character, but that doesn't really add anything in terms of interesting mechanics. Sure, you can buy a skill that lets you chain stealth kills, but that is just the mechanic of a stealth kill being repeated. In my opinion, that makes a game boring, unless you've got some epic story or other gameplay to back it up.

And then you've got other games, like Tomb Raider, that get it right and gradually give you new equipment which unlock new mechanics. You start the game with absolutely nothing.
First you find a bow and you learn how to hunt, something you will (by the way) never ever do again in this game, but that is besides the point. You learn that you can only light your torch using fire sources, but then you find flint and steel to light up your torch without the need of those sources.
You get a lighter to shoot fire arrows. You get this thing that lets you go - whooosh - up on ropes. That was my favorite item. In terms of weapons: you find a handgun, machine gun, shotgun and bow, which are all upgradable; nothing too fancy. You find crafting parts to upgrade weapons, but most of the time you don't even really notice the upgrades.

Let's move on to the story. The story **** sucks. The story is about Lara traveling to Japan to find some hidden island, or something. You're ship ends up in a storm and as a result you're stuck on this island. Initially, you're separated from your group. When you find them, you find out one of them is kidnapped by other people, who are also trapped on the island and have been for some time.
And the game basically revolves around rescuing her. The characters in this game are as boring as the game is predictable. I do not give a **** about them. Early on, a few of them, with whom you're probably supposed to have some kind of a connection die. And I couldn't have cared less when it happened. At some point later in the game, you try to escape the island, but you can't due to some kind of mystical power. Later you see these sort of zombie-samurai, which adds some tension.
But then later on, you find out that you can just shoot these guys! AND that they're about as powerful as normal enemies!
However, what the game does do well, is its epic sequences. Trying to escape a collapsing cave or dodging spikes when sliding down a cliff, is really cool. But, but ... They overdo it. Just a bit too many of those sequences.

Now, except from the story: what can you do? Not that much that is actually fun. There are collectibles, but when playing they didn't really feel worth to find. Let's talk about tombs. They start off really cool: they have this small part where you slowly walk in, which sets the atmosphere really nicely. BUT the tombs only consist of one puzzle you have to solve. I have to admit though, they are harder than your average gaming-puzzles, but just having to solve one puzzle, makes it feel a bit too easy. So, what DO you get when you finish a tomb? Gold? Some ancient artifact? Nope, you get the same **** animation of her gasping and you get ... crafting parts. Waaaauw. Really worth it.

Uhm, what else? You have the same animation over and over when you stealth kill someone. Enemies take way too many bullets to kill. You can take three clips before you die, even on hard-mode.

The older games had simplistic plots that were easy to follow and they only made you sit through a few short cutscenes. These newer games could take hint from them, as this plot is way to complicated and sounds as if the writers was made it up as they went along. Hint: Keep it simple

I've also heard interviews with the developers cynically stating that this new Laura was (to paraphrase) 'pro feminist' or 'less sexual' than the older games, that the older games showed an oversexualization of Laura. This is a simple minded-tunnel vision view or her IMO, as she isn't exactly "modest" in this new game in her features. Never was I actually turned on by the old Laura for the record.

In short: Tom Raider (2013) is another forgettable cookie cutter RE4- Uncharted clone. Stay away from it.

I applaud the developers for rebooting the franchise and Lara Croft herself. The story is quite good. However, the game doesn't feel like a "Tomb Raider" to me, mainly for these reasons:

    1) the puzzles (and/or tombs) are either non-existent or incredibely easy, 2) combat itself is enjoyable but there's too much of it, 3) unnecessary RPG and crafting elements (skills, weapon upgrades)

    4) level design is too linear (previous Tomb Raider games were also linear, but the levels - unlike in this game - didn't feel like taken out of a FPS)
    5) Lara talks so much (to herself) that it's annoying. Hey, I want to figure out things myself and don't need to constantly hear Lara's remarks about every little thing.
    6) Too many QTEs and cinematic sequences.

In short, new Tomb Raider feels and plays like a generic "Uncharted" adventure game. While that is okay and the game is fun enough, it's not fair to call it "Tomb Raider" because there really isn't much left from the original gameplay formula that made previous Tomb Raider games (both the original series and Legend series) so popular.

This game was overloaded with cheap action, cliche dialogues and lacked any clever puzzles to solve. The levels were embarrassingly linear and the only challenges it provided were those where dozens of bad guys started attacking you and you had to shoot 'em all. Buckets of blood and piles of rotting dead bodies (literally) don't make it an adult game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. + Strong and great intro to the game.

+/- Small areas with an awful lot of useless collectibles.
+/- Good but at the same time linear level design.
+/- Sometimes cutscense seems to be prolonged.

    - Artificially making it impossible to return to the way already travelled (suddenly the fire starts to spread throughout the whole floor, "unexpected" 15th explosion).
    - Puzzle are not demanding, e.g. suddenly there is a corridor through which we have to go (there is no other way!) and gas escapes in it, so we just have to tighten the valve, which is literally in front of our nose.
    - Often the "sudden turn of events" feels poorly written.
    - Platform areas are dull and not challenging at all.
    - AI is often totally idiotic even on the hardest difficulty.
    - The last boss fight was dull.
    - The ending is unfullfilling.

Вау пробежек под взрывы и щепки всего что существует на планете дают стабильно по 5-6 раз на час геймплея, и это бы могло работать до сих пор, но увы визуал спёкся и давно не впечатляет, особенно на фоне очень красивой Rise of Tomb Raider. This is a really good game that can bring you pleasant emotions, but I think it could have been done much better. The developers should have worked more on the plot and characters, especially on Lara Croft. It was possible, for example, to add flashbacks of her childhood with her father or come up with something else to deepen this character.

    Tomb Raider:
    - Lara: fires one bullet
    - Game: here are ten more
    - Lara's ammo go up

    Things I liked:
    - That one stealth sequence in the dark forest
    - The skills and weapon upgrades
    - The shotgun
    - Getting headshots with the pistol

    Things I disliked:
    - There's this one part where you're supposed to jump onto a ledge and a cutscene triggers. But something went wrong, and no cutscene played when I reached the ledge. I was stuck there for ~10 minutes trying to figure out what I was meant to do.
    - Lara has three opportunities to shoot the main antagonist, but she does not
    - Some of the dialogue was cringe, and the character development for Reyes was wonky
    - Mash left and right to struggle
    - Mash E repeatedly to pry
    - Lara has over 9000 HP -- she is basically immortal. She is also female Nathan Drake.
    You can:
    - set her on fire
    - impale her with rebar
    - drop her off a cliff
    - drop her off a sky bridge
    - drop her down a sinkhole
    - shoot her in the arm
    - toss a live grenade 1 metre in front of her
    - etc.
And she will survive because she has level 9000 grip strength and basically infinite ammo.

    Final verdict: 6.0/10

Now that many hours tells you two things, A. I benchmarked this game a lot, and B. Probably spent time just visually enjoying the game. Even over ten years later, it is a very pretty game, not perfect around every edge, asset or character render or facial animation, but its decidedly very pretty to look at. It also has a very professional soundtrack, some pretty hilarious voice acting that is functional, but perhaps doesn't quite line up with the low quality writing.

In this pre-Lara, pre-adventure that has nothing to do with other third-person action games at the time, nor is it some kind of bizarre fetish murder simulator with gruesome male (as well as female) death sequences, you explore the origins of Lara Croft as a character or something. I don't remember. The story is all over the place, inconsequential, bad, and is some sort of TV's "Lost" meets the "Uncharted" game series meets "Indiana Jones, but just "Temple of Doom" and theirs also something in there about an ancient Japanese sorceress or whatever. Me personally? I couldn't tell you one thing that happens in the story. Some characters show up, sometimes they aren't there, Lara's looking for her girlfriend probably, theirs like two actual boss fights, theirs a boss fight that isn't even a major character that's reduced to a quick-time event twenty minutes into the game and I guess- oh- I guess their are some "tombs" to walk around or discover.

The Tomb raider series is pretty old, so its not like people didn't see the eventual homogenization of their beloved dear schmoopsy-poo Lara Croft being turned into whatever fried food equivalent that sold well before everyone's doctor started to warn them about potential health complications from eating said particular fried food. The point is that it was always going to attempt to be mainstream, I just never thought a mainstream game would get away with obvious Ryona scenes, references to "Faster, **** Kill! Kill!," and attempts to portray itself as deeply serious in every unbelievably awful scene where Lara "cardboard cutout" Croft can speak to some bland minor character we know nothing about for five minutes about where the plot is going because we sure as heck as the audience don't know and theirs no real reason to care either.

The fact that so much of the game is reliant on these stupidly obvious, repetitive and insultingly thick confrontations ala third-person shooter accompanied by all manner of chest-high walls, should tell you everything that was on the developers mind's when they crafting this nonsense. Lara, a 130 l.b. (going off Anniversary editions established weight) five foot six inch scrawny looking white girl upper body can magically derive the strength to pull a bow string so far back, that it delivers enough force for the arrow to literally pierce a human skull all the way through. Which is comical in this game no matter how many times I see it, but that doesn't change how utterly ridiculous it is. So its not surprising that combat is a chore against brainless combatants (all men) who are murdered for so much as farting or belching in Lara's general direction, whose motivations are so vague they could actually be extremely aggressive salesmen and Lara would still create an excuse to blow their kneecaps off. Only four weapons are available on an Island somehow armed to the teeth with military grade rifles, pistols, explosives, Molotov cocktails, sub-machines guns, and lets not forget gun turrets. Can't have a good action set piece without a large gun turret shooting at your protagonist.

So is Lara Croft John Rambo? It would make a lot of sense. Ultimately the things that happen in "Lara Croft Murder adventures: Tombs are only the beginning" merely happen because the writers need an action set piece to push the story forward. Lara falls at the beginning of the game onto a particularly pointy piece of metal, its a silly sequence where you must mash a contextual button prompt in order to pull a long rusty steel rebar out of her pelvic region (if only most girls were this easy). It bares mention that she seeks no medical aid after dislodging the object, and takes a little swim in "godknowswhat" jungle water with no repercussions. Ironically, she later is "injured" after this wound FINALLY gets worse, and she has to cauterize it, a scene the game shy's away from showing even with fairly realistic violence against men by firearm or bow and arrow.

When you boil it down, Tomb Raider 2013 is a desperate derivative. Its fundamentally pointless. It lacks a narrative structure that cannot progress without some elaborate set piece from an action movie. In summary, it represents everything wrong with modern videogames.

Tomb Raider is a very popular series of games as from the past as from the present. So I have finally decided to make a begin with it. I started my journey with the first part of the new Tomb Raider era.

From the very beginning I was absolutely stunned by the incredible atmosphere in the game. The cursed/abandoned island got all of my attention for the first couple of hours. Snowy mountains, rainy jungles, steep slopes, wrecked ships and airplanes made it one of the most significant places in games where I’ve ever been.

The park our is a big part of the game, it’s very well executed. It’s all scripted though, but the cinematic which you get while doing all the acrobatics is insane!

Unfortunately, the remaining aspects are less good of quality.

The shooting system is in my opinion handicap. From all the weapons which you get during the game, the bow remains the only pleasantly weapon to use (and still, it’s not perfect, but good enough though, I really enjoyed shooting arrows with it). You won’t feel any of the automatic weapons, neither will you feel the enemies when hitting them.
You really wouldn’t mind shooting some enemy’s now and then, but as you progress further into the game, you get more dumb bots to shoot.
This leads us to another incident, there is a huge lack of enemy’s variations. The only ones you get to interact with are some animals (only wolfs actually, because they are the only hostile animal in the game), the fanatics (an unnatural amount of them spread over the whole island) and the crazy/corrupt sun nation warriors. Since there is that much of shooting in the game, why not add more variations of enemy’s?

The story is very simple. It just could have been better, there is not very much to say about it.
Characters on the other hand is a good topic to talk about. While playing the game we see the conflicts inside the group which we don’t care about at all and the scenarist are trying to implicate some dramatic losses in the story where over we won’t care either. All that because the characters were never personalised, we know nothing about them, even about Lara herself (and I want to remind you, this game is the very beginning of her adventures, it’s a chapter of her life where she got reborn). The game never creates any kind of emotional bond with the characters.

As I’m playing this game years after it has been released I have thought about the limitations which I’ve just mentioned. It can be that the game just got to old. But then I have compared it to other games of early 2010’s, and funny things have occurred. This game indeed sucks at shooting and especially story telling.

As a conclusion of this review I would suggest you to buy a newer chapter of the game (as the story of the listed one is not important at all) which will have better graphics and hopefully have better story telling/shooting system (I’m sure, it could not have got worse).

Приятный графон. Неплохой сюжет. Героиня очень хорошо кричит. На вечерок с пивком сойдет.
Признаюсь пару раз были очень сильные моменты . Сочувствую людям с слабой психикой

Interesting and entertaining story, with beautiful world and amazing characters which you get really connected with throughout the game. Gameplay was quite alright.

In my opinion this is an overall good game. It does suffer from over the top action scenes and just a lot of shooting, but its all enjoyble. I would have liked to see more exploration which is btw almost non existent in this game. By far the best thing in this game is Lara`s caracther, even though her transition from a shy naive girl to a serial killer is almost non existent. Not a Tomb Raider game at all it really seems an Uncharted game re-skin. There's nothing I loved from the original games in this reboot.

Tomb Raider is a game that don't wants you to play it. It's interrupting you every 5min to play a cinematic. It's putting you in small grotes with no possible movement to load different areas.
It annoys you with quick time events that have nothing to do with a Tomb Raider game. Again, why so many quick time events? No one like them, it interrupts your gameplay and we are not playing guitar hero to test our key pressing skills. Even the last boss is a QTE!!!

Another annoying thing is how every single climb in the game is marked with a super bright white or yellow paint. Really, did you seen that in the real world?
It completely breaks the scenario immersion, everything in your sight will be spotted in white and yellow.
There was no need of that, I played many Tomb Raider games and was perfectly able to know where to jump and where not.

Need also to mention the huge amount of bullets, explosions, buildings falling and more buildings exploding in this game. When did we see this barbaric amount of destruction in a Tomb Raider game?
And why is Lara a kind of god that can sustain any type of injury: dozens of bullets, bone cracks, deep wounds, explosions in her face, 50m falls... no worries, there's no life bar or medkits in this game... so in 30 secs Lara will be fine again.

All in all this game experience is more close to a bad Tomb Raider movie than a good Tomb Raider game.

Играем мы за главную героиню Лару Крофт.
Мне игра понравилась за свою атмосферу и уникальность геймплея. Рекомендую ознакомится тем кто не игра в Tomb Raider.
Хорошый саундтрек не раздражающий и подходящий.

    Visual (6/10)
Picture was great fo 2013, nowadays it seems a bit plain, but still good. Why 6 than ? A LOT OF BUGS. I've experienced different bugs in each walkthrough, even now in 2022 they have not fixed major bugs in tombs. It's a game about tomb raider c'mon why you tombs are not working, why hitboxes are so broken and most annoying - strange camera shakes in cut scenes. I honestly checked different settings like vsync and still get this shakes. I get them in 2013, so they are in 2022. Maybe it's only on PC version only, but that was the main point why I've finished this game only now. Music is pretty average, I don't even know what to say. It's just exists somewhere on background. Lara's voice acting is good. Inetrface is a bit archaic as for 2022 and simplifyed, on the other hand it's just a linear single player game - only thing you need - just play.

    Gameplay (5/10)
This is the singleplayer linear game with main story only - tha main game play is just run through levels. I like the idea to load levels while you climbing through the hole in a cave and than see new location that's good, but atfer the mid game - only thing you do is backtracking. In linear game... It was awfull, another thing why I haven't finished it first time. I've lost the whole tomb raider atmosphere when Lara starts to do every deal for the team in the same location. You have new equpment, so it's supposed that you would like to go back and test it.... but for what? another scrap bag? I don't think so, espesially if you kill all enemies each time and loot them for this scrap. Tombs are interesting, but so tiny and only few of them well designed. Not very interesting. I really like first few hours of the game, and in fact it's really the most entertaining part

    Story (7/10)
I like the story, it's a mix of mysterios island and asian culture it's intriguing, but at the end it feels a bit decent ending, also they missed so many interesting things they can do with oni guards and make them just an ordinary enemies. Characters - decent, just here to be rescued by Lara and a bit involve on her development like a character. On the other hand Lara in this game is very interesting, she really changes till the end, get some iconic moments and ending prase - survivior was born feels like best ending for intro part of Tomb Raider new franchize. I like that developers understand they need to prepare good dramatic story for action adventures, so they can sucessfully compete with uncharted and last of us franchize.

All in all, I like the game, and espesially the fact they release PC version in 2013 so everyone can enjoy the game, I like the rebranding of **** cause developers chose right way, but in other aspects it is a decent game with bugs and backtracking in the end. After completion the game I fully understand myself in 2013 and why I have not finished it, so it's up to you - play or not. You can easily pick up the game for free in EGS weekly giveaways and check.

This genre is typically just not for me. I was in the mood for a game where I could solve a couple puzzles and shoot a couple bad guys and this game gave me that in a nice 10 hour package. I would say it was average in every way, it was a worthwhile experience, but not one I will likely ever return to.

Back then I didn’t finish the game, but a few days ago I was bored and wanted to play some nostalgic video games. I was looking through my games on Epic games (Of course I did not pay for any of those games, it was free). Then I found Tomb Raider and my first thought was “Naah I don’t want to play these boring Lara Croft games” I didn’t like it a few years ago so why should I play it now, I asked myself. I played this game for 4 straight hours that day. And now, after finishing it, I want to share my opinion with you guys.

While not every promising idea Tomb Raider has is pulled off successfully, it nevertheless turns in a tense and memorable ride that combines modern game design with its forebears’ adventurous spirit in some exciting ways. Some of its missteps may well come at the cost of your enjoyment, but most can’t hope to hurt the adventure in the long run. Although it never fully finds its identity, this is a game and a story worth seeing through.
