The last couple of years have been over crowded with COD clones and every developer seems to be copying COD. For what its worth Modern Warfare 1 was the best in my honest opinion. Anyway back to Rainbow Six. I played the original games on PC years ago and this was a pleasant surprise. Though it doesn't have single player elements to it, its all multiplayer. In my books thats not good. You need to be able to play a story mode. there has to be more to each level than just attacking and protecting, even if there was just a cut scene that you can watch.
At first the games design is all based around attacking and defending, then unlocks, each particular attacker and defender have certain abilities. All the content that people complain about not being there is in fact there in the form of cutscenes for each character that you unlock. And well the 11 maps and then thats it. But the gameplay is very good. So good you will come back to it again and again. They say future updates will release more maps and characters to unlock, which in turn will just increase the longevity. Thats is true . Bit I can't help feeling disappointed towards the lack of single player missions. Even the single player situations for some reason don't run at the same frames per second in multiplayer than it does in the single player missions. Leaving controls and movement feeling laggy. Plus the AI is atrocious. Its just shoot the moving target and so on. No fun there. Anyway all in all, this game is fun for the basic element that it focuses on. The graphics are good when you are playing multiplayer and most importantly if you have a team that communicates its worth the purchase. Because each round will last a lot long if you work together rather than going lone soldier. 8/10

Rainbow Six: Siege is a surprisingly entertaining game which brings the classic Tom Clancy series into the modern era in a genre which has been quiet in recent years. This game is by no means perfect with some flaws as expected but Ubisoft have produced a title that fans of the classic genre will certainly enjoy.

Siege is largely a multiplayer team-based game which centers on casual or competitive 5v5 matches on a variety of maps with hostage defence and bomb defusal being the primary objectives. Matches are best of 5 alternating rounds in which you and four others team up in attack and defence. There are only 10 or so maps available but each vary in size and style and as the objective point changes location in each round; everything feels fresh and both sides must work hard on offense and defence. You can also team up with 4 friends against the AI and play out MP scenarios although the dreadfully coded AI leaves a lot to be desired.

The structure of the game surrounds earning XP called Reown points - these can be spent on unlocking operators who each have their own special equipment and loadouts to be used in the field. There are around 16 operators to unlock in the basegame and all differ and can only be selected by one player in each team in the lobby. Reown can also be used to unlock attachments, camo's and other additional customisation elements. Some attack operators can blast through walls, hammer down barricades, bypass traps whereas the defensive operators can use their equipment to counter the opposition with strategically placed traps and positioning. Everything feels well-balanced and the level of customisation is fantastic.

The disappointing aspects of Siege is that there isn't really a worthwhile single player option - you can solo some scenarios as a lone wolf but these aren't very satisfying and can be extremely difficult even on normal difficulty. Other issues surround the poor netcode and typical Ubisoft server reliability. The visuals feel somewhat dated and the mechanics are a bit clunky but despite this; there is plenty of fun to be had without the woes getting in the way. The general controls may lack fluency but at least you feel like you're in control of a tactical operator and not some arcadey Call of Duty character.

Overall; Rainbow Six: Siege rejuvenates the vintage genre and is a worthy successor to the classic games in the series. It demands tactics and teamwork and each match is never the same. The game does have a few issues and perhaps isn't as polished as we would have hoped but nevertheless, it's a good purchase especially if you have dedicated friends to play with. If you are looking for a single player experience, this game is not for you but even if you are a solo player just wanting to jump in casually; it's a easy game to get into and tremendous fun throughout.

RB6 Siege offers a great gaming experience (disclaimer: I have never played another RB6 game) with great graphics, sound effects and even HD textures. This is just the shell of the game offering far more than that.
Gameplay: It is a attackers-/defenders game with a few scenarios: hostage, bio hazard seizure, bomb disarming. Both sides undergo a prep phase (t = 30 s), during which attackers try to find the objective and locate enemies with motorized ground drones and defenders need to find a defending strategy using different gadgets. No round will be the same, since your tactics will vary because of ever changing objective spots and different operators (see below). Another variable is the destructible environment around you. Walls or floors can be blown up, smashed or shot through. Effects for destruction are top notch!
Operators: Represented are five nations' special forces (France, USA, GB, Russia, Germany). Herein are 4 unlockable operators each. 2 defenders, 2 attackers, 20 in total. They feature different skills and specifics, which brings much variety to the game. Every operator has any operator specific weapon available from the start on! YOU can choose which reticle or other attachment you want to unlock against progression points.
Progression: You can earn easy points via singleplayer and watching introductional videos. The harder earned but higher rewarded points you will collect via multiplayer. And here is the only downside I see so far: You also can buy XP boosters against real money. This is not directly corrupting, but it has a certain taste to it.
The ugly: You don't have a server browser. It is matchmaking. Most of the time it works properly, but I prefer a browser where you can change your preferences. Now you are bound to the "casual" game style until operator level 20, after which you will be able to play "ranked" to earn more XP. The thing is, that even after level 20 you are able to play "casual", which leads to people on lvl 80+ to bash noobs in "casual".
Another issue is the ping fidelity. Synchronization does not seem to work properly all the time, which leads to many deaths resulting from latency. This is annoying, since you have to wait for the round to end after you die.
Bottom line: I enjoy the game a lot. I've been playing for around 10 hours and I already got 14/20 operators with the inventory of my choosing. This seems to be one of the best features, which games like Battlefield or CoD don't seem to want to implement.
I'd rather skip the part of giving points, but metacritic works like that, so I'm guessing 5/7 (let's see, who gets it).

Probably my favorite online shooter that came out in 2015. Has a similar feel of Counter Strike mixed with some Battlefield. I would rate this much higher than an 8 if it wasn't for some bugs and server issues. (Seriously they should let us host our own servers).

But the gameplay and map designs are solid. Kudos Ubi, you made a game I am willing to buy from you.

I would like to state that you will not get used to playing if you are alone or even there are 4 people because the usage areas of operators are so wide. Gather your 5 friends and play the game more effectively. So, you can play in a much more coordinated way if you have 5 friends in a team. In the simplest case, if the operators in the team are not the kind that supports each other, the game becomes unbalanced.

The vanilla operators are also very good, but Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 operators are well balanced with each other. It can take some time to learn and get used to the main equipment that all operators have. Do not break your morale while playing that moment.

The community of the game is worst! Not all of them, but almost 85% are worst. I can write pages about it. I don't even want to mention it. So, I will pass that part... Sorry.

If you are playing the highest graphical texture in this game so that the graphics are good, there is no point in telling you. The game is a tactical based game and it does not even take 5 minutes. So do not do this for a 5-minute pleasure. It also causes the game to load late. If there is a difference between the pleasure you feel during sex and the pleasure you feel at the peak, there is such a difference. If you continue playing, of course, you can increase graphical quality and even download High-Res Textures from the store page. But if you like to play casually like me, you do not even have to.

Also, if you're looking for great single player content, it's not here. Siege is a game that's best experienced online with friends, and playing it any other way will be a lesser experience. The full retail asking price might seem a bit high because of that, but the game's well worth picking up on sale if you're at all interested in a more thoughtful and complex online shooter.

While the nostalgia of other Rainbow Six games sits in this one's back pocket with giant neon signs saying "Please refrain", This one does manage to stand out.

    BASICS:
While Siege has no single player campaign, much like the much worse Battlefront, it does make up for it in certain departments, while many Fans of the series will complain about this, please understand: This is not The Rainbow Six Vegas series. While those games were known for their tactical shooting and intense campaigns, they lacked a competent multiplayer and satisfying online experience. Siege does make up for that, in its very action packed game modes in which normally you are split up into 2 teams, the good and bad guys, the bad guys are in a house with 2 bombs, the goal to protect the bombs until the time limit runs out or they kill all the good guys. The good guys have to kill the bad guys or disable the bomb. In many ways it is like a team death match but with alternate objectives. This adds a flare to the game that can't quite be matched by any other. The AI is relatively decent, sometimes it acts a bit on the idiotic side, but through my experience, it worked decently well. So if you like tactical shooters, this is for you, it pushes teamwork above all else, beating solo terrorist hunt is very difficult , so using teamwork is key. The game does have a decent amount of customization, weapons, and attachments. So in conclusion, if you like first person shooters, then this is for you, if you are a die hard Rainbow Six Vegas fan, than you will be disappointment. However, I felt the game was a nice balance of tactics and action.

Ok, let's start with the cons and get those out of the way.
1 - The game should have a single player campaign. Not that the game needs single player, but because one is entitled to it when paying full price for a game. So, campaign or lower price.

There, those are the cons as I see them, on to the positives:
The game is real good ol' fun! Tactical FPS at its best. If you liked the classic Rainbow 6, Rogue Spear series you will feel right at home. The feel when moving around in the game is actually quite similar to the classic RB6 titles. Also, the new mechanics with breakable walls etc, have been implemented really well. They add to the experience instead of becoming gimmicky and unnecessary. There is really not much more to say, try it out and I'm sure you'll have fun.

I don’t play first person shooter games for long. I have played a lot of them, but I tend to play 2 dozen games and never return. The only one that tend to keep me playing is battlefield. In a way, Rainbow Six: Siege is like that. A lot of the structures are destructible, 11 maps, and 3 game modes. There are plenty of customization of weapons. Granted, I felt like the customization wasn’t really customization, but rather huge upgrade. Obviously scope is better than iron sight; was that a good example? Here is another, if you upgrade the grip of the weapon, there is less recoil, no downside. Obviously, that’s just up grade. There should be some sort of downside to certain upgrades, but the game clearly fails at that.
Why do I like this game? It’s pretty tactical. Through vote, you decide a tactical location where to spawn, whether you are playing the attacker or the defender. You have 10 different specializations to choose for both attack and defense. Each specialization brings some sort of tactical idea in mind. But there is clear imbalance, why choose a medic when everyone dies within 2 shots.
Where does the game start to fail? There is no story mode. Team killing might not be for everyone. Uplay really sucks. There is no in game chat between friends, you have to minimize the game to get talk with your friends. I have an expensive and well received headset but apparently the game can’t seem to locate it despite it working with every game I ever had. Matchmaking isn’t the best; I’ve had some games where it feels like it’s a complete landslides. Now, does this mean the game sucks? No, I still find it very enjoyable playing with or without my friends, but there is clearly some faults that can and should be fixed.
Again ill repeat, find a website that sells the keys like g2a and get the game for half the price. It’s definitely worth it for $30-40. Otherwise, console players, I suggest you get it at discount.

    Good game, low content.

Sure, it is a good tactical teamwork game, could have also been an excellent shooter if not for netcode and lag issues, but these might be patched sooner or later. I would go as far as to say this game explores things that I have always wanted in Counter Strike, particularily when playing cs_office and militia. I would go as far as to say this game explores things that I have always wanted in Counter Strike, particularily when playing cs_office and militia. CS is fun and I will never throw a stone at it, but this stuff just doesn't quite work there. That's the reason the defuse maps are the only ones in competetive rotation. RS Siege on the other hand covers this aspect very good. If you wanted a real building assault scenario simulation, this is the closest one out there.

The team balancing is fairly good and adds spice to the game where other games don't deliver. Certainly a new experience, in a lot of ways. The skill ceiling is also very high, and not just weapon skill ceiling, which is a good thing for a competetive shooter. The operators are interesting, unique and require quite a bit of thinking to master. Unfortunately, some operators seem more valuable than others, some of them cover a large amount of different events, some are narrowly specialized and will be deemed useless in many situations. The mechanics are fairly easy to understand, after the first match you will be all set about the basics and how to's.

One of the biggest problems of the game is the content. Yes, the maps will be added in the future, but as it stands, you will be bored quite fast with most of the maps, even despite the replayability value, which is enormous. As it stands, the game needs more maps, perhabs missions and events to gauge the community. If not, the game will die very quickly, don't expect the life span of counter strike.

Oh, another annoyance - weapon skins and the resultant microtransactions. That very same **** we have to deal with in CS GO, it returns.

I would also say that locking operators behind an experience wall is a bad move of Ubisoft. This makes absolutely no sense for a class based shooter. I have an approximate understanding of the reason why Ubisoft did this, and it's not a good one.

I've been playing R6S for 3 weeks. I've found this game very refreshing the FPS genre. Destroyable environment like no other and useful "classes" makes this game very tactic-focused. Gun gameplay is extremely satisfying with a moderate number of guns in the game. I always have a hard time to decide which class to use because there are quite a few. And also in terms of maps I am satisfied, of course there could be a larger number of maps but for now it's good especially that some of those are pretty large and it's a must to know each of those very good for the ease of describing locations on voice chat.
There is a quite large number of negatives, like matchmaking times, loading screens in between rounds, disconnection from servers (even during ranked matches!). Weird "deaf kills" that only on kill cams they look proper, sometimes really bad hit detection, not enough customizations and rewards in game. Occasional fps drops from stable 90 to 20-30fps...
I was gonna give it 7 because of overall bugs (some of those are being fixed with first patch ex. ultra texture pack), however there is no better feeling than playing with your friends with teamspeak enabled, helping each other, scouting with the drones, setting tactics, preparing defenses, etc. I have not played game like this and I am looking forward. I found this game very satisfying. I advise to play it with friends, because lack of communication and teamkillers can easily break the game.

Thought I would post my review since some of the popular reviews here can be unreasonable. First off, as you can tell the score I really like the game, if there was a decimal system I think 8.5 would be fair. Lets first start with pros and cons:

    pros:
-Different take on a shooter compared to COD and Battlefield, the game is very strategic and tactical forcing players to play as a team and be patient
-Destructible environment and operators that have their individual perks are game changers for rb6 series
-No 3rd person cover system, you can peak in/out in fps mode instead
-A lot of problems from betas were fixed in final version

    Cons:
-Kill Cam can be messed up sometimes
-Hit detection still needs a bit of work
-No campaign (but to be fair, devs stated that from the start)

Overall I personally think it's a solid game. It brings a different take compared to games like COD and Battlefield where everyone is running around spraying each other in the face from hip and anybody can just jump in and do great. You can't really do that in Siege, you gotta play as a team, you gotta be relatively more tactical, and you gotta have a bit more patience and approach things smartly. Ubi went with a simple formula, 5 on 5 mp matches you got attackers and defenders (who defend a bomb or a hostage, similar to cs) and attackers have so much time to complete the objective. Each side have unique selection of operators, who have their own perks such as: being able to blast through reinforced metal walls, attach a grenade device that fires several nades into a room, being able to revive teammates from distance, gassing attackers with butane gas bombs. The combination of operator dynamics with their special perks, destructible environment where you can breach/shoot through, and different defending/attacking spots on each map can make each game seem different even if played on same map. And even though the game orients around 5vs5 mp matches, it does have these sp missions called "situations" where you complete simple objects to get familiar with some operators. There's also return of terrorist hunt, and it has been tweaked a lot since beta to a point where it's fairly playable on hard and can be enjoyable, and contrary to what some might say, the AI are not dumb at all. They aren't the smartest AI in the game, but they are good at flanking players and taking cover, and take advantage during certain moments where player might be disadvantaged.

Also I noticed that some players complained that Siege has dumbed down the franchise and not all like some of the original Tom Clansy's Rainbow Six games. And even though it's true that it's not completely congruent to likes of Rogue Spear, it still seems to be a step towards more original rb6 games since it doesn't have that ridiculous 3rd person cover system off vegas and health does not regenerate (unless you revive a down teammate, which typically brings it back to 50) unlike Vegas if I remember Vegas correctly. And to be fair, we should see this coming a mile away since very few developers can successfully take newer games back to the likes of original, especially something as complex and relatively much difficult to play as more original rb6. I think relative to Vegas, they did a great job bringing back RB6. Also some might complain lack of campaign. And I'm not going to go out of my way to justify the lack of campaign, devs warned that since the game was announced. It's certainly not at all like COD or Battlefield. However I would love to see campaign in this game, I don't know enough to truly know whether lack of campaign might be the reason for what seems to be solid multiplayer experience, or more of a lack of initiative.

A lot of bugs that persisted in beta such as: seeing limbs through wall, taking forever to find a server in a match, bad hit detection, bad netcode, etc have been worked on and to most extend fixed. In addition certain balancing tweaks were made such as lowering accuracy for firing from hip with a pistol, which made shield operators invincible. Though they are few issues that need to be fixed, for example there are times when you get killed and you want to find out how it happened, whatever kill cam shows doesn't seem to make any sense. Still with what I consider to be minor issues, the game is still enjoyable, very few games come out fully polished these days, and I have confidence that ubi will take care of them in short time.

I do like how ubi is planning on supporting the game with free new maps, weapons, and operators. My only concern about that, is even though new operators will be free, it will take 25 hours to unlock without paying for them, which from my standpoint seems a bit unreasonable.

Price-wise, I can't say I can justify that this game worth whole 60 dollars but I do think that it's definably worth around 40, and with all the sales going on right now it's not impossible to get the game for that much.

I don't like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege and I think this is worst game in series . Expand

Really good FPS, require thinking and strategy to topple opponents. The only problem I have is with body lag and hackers but they seem to at least be trying with the newest update. I will always appreciate more patches from this game.

I have 72 hours put into this game, the game gets your heart beating fast in certain situations. The game requires your brain to be used. You need to plan and execute with your team. The different operators really expand the game with their different gadgets and such.

The game does have a steep learning curve for new players who are more used to the run and gun type shooters like COD.

The game does have a steep learning curve for new players who are more used to the run and gun type shooters like COD. But once you master the game, it's super fun to play. Though there are minor problems like weird netcode, and people's body sticking through walls making them an easy kill for enemies.

But Ubisoft seems to be improving the game constantly with new patches and content. And that's what I like about them.

Rainbow six siege is a really fun game which sticks out from most regular fps-games. The classes are a nice addition and it is a very competitive game overall. Single player/players vs bots aspect of this game feels a bit lacking. The fun factor deeply connects with map awareness and learning the game.

I like the game, I really enjoy playing it, if you can get it on sale buy it. I have issues with that netcode and lag... In this game tho, if you have a 200 to 300 ping you have a peak advantage over the low ping players and you can own them a lot easier. I'm not sure if the Dev's really care. Thanks for reading.

I enjoy this game very much. I have been playing since the open beta and forward. It involves a lot of strategy and has some of the cleanest gunplay I have ever experienced. Time to kill is realistic, and when people are shot in the head, it's a kill, not blood splatter with an injury. Every life counts on the team, if you are faced with a 4v5 you are at a noticeable disadvantage butI enjoy this game very much. I have been playing since the open beta and forward. Time to kill is realistic, and when people are shot in the head, it's a kill, not blood splatter with an injury. Every life counts on the team, if you are faced with a 4v5 you are at a noticeable disadvantage but through solid teamwork you can still win. I believe this game did not get enough credit for what it is, because its published by Ubisoft, and 2016 had a plethora of underwhelming shooters. After it's initial release with issues of lag and issues with hit detection, it also got many negative reviews. Almost all of the issues have been fixed and what makes this game good has been polished and made better. R6 is getting another year of support and I'm pretty sure it's fan base will grow rather than diminish like other multiplayer FPS games. The microtransactions within the game can be completely ignored as they are only used for aesthetics. It is however a little bit disheartening for the ratio you pay for the skins. 10$ will go almost nowhere within the games microtransaction system, the skins are extremely expensive for no reason. I don't know anyone willing to pay almost 8$ for a singular skin. The principle alone brought my score from a 10 to an 8. The rest of the game is great and I recommend it to anyone into the FPS genre. Expand

Awesome game, i do very much love this game. 2 marks lost because of team killers and sometimes toxic community. I haven't come across cheaters yet or noticed it i guess but when a 12 year old says "I hate this map, i'm just going to team kill." it just removes the fun. There needs to be consequences for stuff like that otherwise it makes a toxic environment. It wouldn't be hard to set something up where a match is red flagged for the admins when a team kill happens followed by a report, come on UBI. Other than that operators are pretty well balanced and fun, love the tactical and teamplay, not very many games gives you this kind of play. Expand

Wow! Rainbow Six Siege is right now one of my favourite multiplayer tactic shooter out on the market... Before I get to the good stuff, I will talk a little bit about the bad stuff that is part of thise game...

No story mode: No matter how FUN this game is without singleplayer... I really think that they missed on a big chance, to make this game even more interesting and fun... Yes,

No story mode: No matter how FUN this game is without singleplayer... I really think that they missed on a big chance, to make this game even more interesting and fun... Yes, some of you will say - they do have story mode but srsly guys? These ''situations'' are literally a bunch of tutorial missions to get you to know with several gameplay mechanics and tactics and maps... There is no story, no depth and you can't even play those missions in coop. With a story mode, which could've easily swapped the ambience of siege from casual into deep tactical coop shooter (at least for that one sp mode) making it a more interesting and catching game for people that don't really enjoy the casual/competitive side of the multiplayer experience...

Unranked Matchmaking with randoms: No fun. No balance. No teamplay. Play ranked with your friends!

Unlocking DLC Operators without spending money: Of course, how nice of Ubisoft that they give us the chance to unlock new operators by just grinding the game... But the amount of ingame currency those cost, is insane... nearly a slap in the face for everybody who thought that this game has no ''pay for dlc'' - dlc... Don't get me wrong, love this game and think that buying the 20 euro season pass for additional operators is also you saying thank you to the devs for keeping this game alive. But additional to the 30-50 euro you probably spent for the hole game, this just feels wrong. Unlocking 1 operator with ingame money will definitely take you more than 5 hours.

    Now to the good stuff!

The gameplay: The core of this game is pretty simple. Attackers find and destroy, capture or rescue the obj while the defenders have to defend their obj. Thanks to the operators and the constant updates, this game never gets old. Every operator opens another door to tons of tactics that can be used to overcome the enemys - making the pretty simple core of the game deep and challenging. This game also has 2 modes for pvp, casual and ranked. Both are pretty balanced and a lot of fun to play - but keep in mind! playing with friends is a must if you really want to experience the full game.

Events: With the temporare release of that zombie mode, you can see that the devs try their best to keep this game alive and fun. and holy quakamoly - that zombie mode is hard!

In total this game is an 8/10 for me... I just wished a more exciting coop experience - as the gameplay mechanics could've easily made that a hit. In the end, the only reason why this game is stil relevant is that the devs keep balancing the gameplay with patches, buffs and nerfs - what i also love is the goal that this dev team has and that they keep updating the game with additional content. The skins are not a must have, which is why I did not comment on that part of the game.

This game is probably one of the best tactical shooters currently on the market. With a group of friends, it's very fun. Being able to make multiple strategies with different combinations of operators it's enjoyable (Or you can just rush as recruits). It grinds can be a little tedious especially for newer players, but if you invest the time into playing the game, it can be very enjoyable.

An excellent and innovative breath of fresh air. The more I play, the more I like. I hope this is new role model for shooters to come. [Jan 2016]

Siege’s multiplayer mode with its hectic pace and unpredictability seems to have a huge e-sport potential but with random teammates is often unplayable. [01/2016, p.52]

Unfortunately, there aren’t that many maps available, but each one of them has lots of details and alternate routes, like basements and balconies. Even the airplane is much more complex than the archetypical “long tube with seats.” [Issue#205, p.48]
