Also enemy fighters doing circles around you like a swarm of angry computer bees with missiles is also absurd. Another aspect I did not enjoy is the thirdperson mode that you are sometimes forced to use to do certain maneuvers. But, regardless the story isn't half that bad, but still cliche. The graphics and terrain detail is very detailed and make for an excellent environment for flying. The music and sound effects are obviously lacking and poor in quality compared to most new games. Never the less, this game is fun to play and challenging on expert in a unrealistic fashion. The plane models look excellent with lots of different plane and weapon load outs. Also it is well polished and I have not run into any crashes, instabilities or bugs while playing so it runs smooth and solid which can't be said about most titles! Expand

This game is pure action and fun. It is not a simulation by any means, but it's not supposed to be.
I personally love it and know many others that do too, and it still has a multiplayer community today.

A fun arcade-style flight sim to play with friends, although hardcore flight sim fans will find little to like, besides the large hangar of planes available to fly!

Excellent controls on PC, poor controls on Xbox, but with equally inefficient altitude speed yaw controls on both ~ this is not a good thing in a combat jet lol. In a way, Battlefield 2 had the right idea, where you have air, ground, and sea battles. I think with this system that HAWX has, if developed right, could make a great all out war game. But in itself, it gets old quick. Decent graphics and nice overall selection/unlockable jets. Good game, just not great. Expand

Technical problems and awkward controls make for a frustrating experience. The OFF mode would have been so much better if it didn't rewrite the controls and force you into an obnoxious camera angle. If you've never played the Ace Combat series, you'll probably think higher of this game. If you have, you'll realize that it can be done better.

good single player mode, but 2 full months after buying it (retail, not steam) and after multiple correspondence with ubisoft support, MULTIPLAYER IS STILL NOT WORKING despite trying all of their suggested fixes, including completely disabling any and all firewalls, antivirus software, and putting your computer straight out onto the internet and completely open to attack

The plot of this game is a perfect example of what uninspired is. The controls for the PC are hardly decent, especially with a joystick, specifically the one made for the game. All the menus could run more smoothly. HAWX feels like an amalgamation of simulator and arcade elements, but is very mediocre in its presentation. Expand

Decent enough game that is let down by the fact that it's totally broken.

You'd better finish missions on your first try or else chances are that you will replay the whole mission. When restarting from a checkpoint the game will sometimes get forever stuck 'Waiting for other players'. Well, there are no other players to wait for since this happens when you're playing the single player.

When restarting from a checkpoint the game will sometimes get forever stuck 'Waiting for other players'. Well, there are no other players to wait for since this happens when you're playing the single player. After finishing a mission the game may also simply crash, luckily then you'll still maintain your progress and can proceed to the next mission.

Several times I also began a mission with no plane to control. I could still control the camera but the plane wasn't visible from the outside view. Cockpit view showed as intended but the plane still couldn't be controlled. Quitting back to menu from situation like this usually simply caused the game to freeze.

Gameplay wise the game is nice enough arcade flying game. There is absolutely no realism to the flying. Even the stall recovery works completely backwards: In order to recover from a stall you have to pull your nose up to level the plane. This caused some major confusion for me during the stall tutorial, as by instinct I was pushing the nose down to gain speed yet the plane kept stalling on and on. The easiest (normal) difficulty can be surprisingly challenging at times. Glad the game wasn't any longer as I probably couldn't have taken the constant freezing and killing the game process much longer.

Not the best game out there. I honestly don't know how the voice actors stifled their laughter at the inane, jingoistic dialog. But damn if this game isn't crazy amounts of fun. The plot doesn't make sense, lip-syncing doesn't exist, and there is a lack of variety in game mechanics. Despite all this, it is mindless, joyous, childish fun.

It’s disappointing that the multiplayer doesn’t take advantage of the opportunities established by the rest of the game’s design, but the four-player co-op is a very welcomed addition.

The online play -- particularly co-op -- gives HAWX significant replayability. Everything from the picture-perfect planes to the stunning real world environments looks great, even after multiple passes.

The presentation of the game is nicely polished for the most part. From a distance, everything looks really good in-game. Up close, however, H.A.W.X kind of suffers from what most flight games do – bad terrain!
