As a package, it's an incredibly complete product of flabbergasting quality; more than any other game, GRAW puts the player in the nerve-snapping tension of pauses between engagements. It thrusts you into the terror of modern, quicksilver-fluid combat.

While the PC version of GRAW offers the most impressive and expansive campaign, the extreme system requirements and multiplayer headaches make this tactical shooter feel rougher around the edges than it should.

Given Ubi's reputation and the game's undeniable success on the Xbox 360, we were disappointed to encounter so many technical disadvantages. This will undoubtedly ward off a majority of gamers, especially those who had their heart set on playing a decent bug-free PC game.

Yes, I was sick of the same old brown city by the end of the game and, yes, I did hate the stupid checkpoints, but the rest of the game is so enjoyable that I still found myself smiling in spite of those frustrations.

It never quite manages to be an excellent tactical shooter, nor is it the most action-oriented of titles, but by combining thoughtful gameplay with some simply brilliant and explosive set-pieces, Ubisoft has managed to create a compelling single player experience.

Whereas I found GRAW for the X360 to be the best 360 game I've played thus far in the console's lifetime, GRAW for the PC has immediately earned a top spot among my personal pantheon of greatest games.

With more online modes, functional interface, and voice chat, the 360 is easily the superior version. Even the PS2 and regular Xbox have voice chat. Until a major patch restores everything that is missing on the PC, GRAW is better suited as a tech demo to test next year's line-up of video cards.

It's not impossible to play if you aren't a perfect infantry tactician, while still placing a heavy emphasis on proper strategy on the battlefield.

GRAW is sadly flawed but despite these flaws is terrific fun to play. It's wildly addictive as you try and work out the best way through and once you've gotten used to your useless team (we had a team member throw himself under a moving APC..that's talent) it's an excellent tactical shooter.

It has morphed from a wide-open, somewhat abstract tactical simulation to a linear action game with squad elements tacked on. It's a sad symptom of a franchise that used to be focused on providing entertaining white-knuckle tactical shooters and is now focused on providing whatever sells best.

As shooters go, Ghost Recon is one of the best. Bettered possibly only by "Half-Life 2," this is one for the collection.
