With The World After, Burning Sunset signs in any case an encouraging production for a studio which is only beginning its video game journey.

The World After gives us a captivating story concept for our present time. The potential for a great story made it all the more disappointing that the execution wasn’t what it should have been. A few poor design choices stop the game from matching the expectations of its intended genres. This game was an ambitious experiment, but I’m sad to say that it falls just short of meeting its goals.

The World After is a beautiful FMV adventure set in the French countryside with a fresh sci-fi take on a global pandemic, though it falls short in too many areas to make the most of its own concept.

The World After is a product of a very interesting time in video game history, set and produced during a pandemic. Combining sci-fi trappings with the French countryside in a hybrid of FMV and point-and-click adventure gives this game an entirely unique thematic feel. There’s questionable narrative decisions leading to an anti-climactic story arc but for fans of FMV games, The World After will fill an evening or two.
