  1. A great storyline and and impressive interface make for a great game.

In the end, Dementium: The Ward is a cohesive game with the sum of all of its parts adding up to a frightening whole.
  3. More dialogue or commentary from your character as you experiment would go a long way to nudging people in the right direction.

The Ward provides several hours of fairly good entertainment for less than a twenty spot alone earns it two gnarled, muscular PC gaming addict's thumbs up. Whether or not this amusing yet visually outdated bad boy actually brings home the bacon for On Deck Interactive is another story entirely; horror, not sci-fi, mind you.
  5. The Ward is like sitting at a boring party, listening to charmless people drone on and on about fantastic, faraway places.

Essentially a B-movie game. Worth buying if you're hard up for an adventure game. [May 2001, p.65]
  7. It's never a good sign when you start having problems before you even get to play the game. The installation proved to be quite a bitch.
  8. It’s this emphasis on storytelling that eventually spells the demise for this title. The story just doesn’t flow consistently throughout the game.
  9. Full of promise, with a textured plot premise and unorthodox, and at times, stunning visuals. But the sub-par execution of the confusing backstory and lethargic gameplay, confounded by the limited viewing perspective, sinks this release right from the outset.
  10. The Ward was obviously inspired by LucasArts' classic "The Dig" and Inscape's underrated "Drowned God," only it's nowhere as good or as innovative as either title.

A rather uninspired tome, which is bogged down by obscure puzzles, slow story development, and even slower and unvaried gameplay.
  12. Hardcore adventure types might enjoy it only because there are so few options these days, but anyone else will find the irritating puzzles, well, irritating, and will want to heave the CD out the window.
  13. I thought the first section was quite good and I was really prepared to enjoy the challenge and the exploration, but too many frustrating timed sequences spoiled the experience.
  14. Simply isn't interesting enough to merit sticking it out that long.
