    While intentionally vague on backstory, The Sojourn provides a solitary journey through relaxing vistas littered with enjoyably mind-bending navigational puzzles.

    The Sojourn is a great game - its puzzles are challenging, yet rarely frustrate, creating a layered experience which builds upon the central mechanics of the light and dark states. Its environments also offer you something gorgeous to look at while you’re contemplating a solution. It does less well in terms of the narrative, which is a little too simplistic in terms of its themes. Also, the puzzles/environment don’t really feel heavily related to the plot at all. But the narrative isn’t in your face, and is quite easy to disregard if you’re not interested. In the end, puzzles are what matter most in these games, and I would definitely recommend The Sojourn to any puzzler fans out there.

    The Sojourn’s stakes aren’t so dire, but it still has something to say if you’re ready to listen. Put on some headphones, turn off your phone, and let The Sojourn wash over you. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget.

    With its fantastic artistic direction, The Sojourn is a game to be recommended to fans of the genre. Even if the accompanying story and the texts of the scrolls remain rather vague, we nevertheless enjoyed following the epic tale that is told. The challenges are many and varied, with techniques that combine perfectly, and some present a real challenge. We would have liked to have been able to run, but peace of mind is a must in this game.

    A beautiful, nicely crafted puzzle game draped in a dream-like atmosphere and filled with appropriately difficult mysteries. It’s a shame that it will probably annoy you by its failed attempts to tell a deep story and wax philosophical.

Some of the earlier scroll sections were the hardest parts for me, and the rest of it had me scratching my bonce as well.

    I'm glad at the end, having cracked the game you can go back into the 'Garden of merit' and read all the scrolls you picked up. Inspirational quotes and missives straight from a spiritual guide book.

    Yet, the mystical, spriritual side of the game with the blind-folded statues and their medallions never really made much sense, and I was hoping as the game went on that there would be more of an explanation, but there wasn't, but I didn't care, the game was good enough on it's own.     There is nothing ground breaking about it, and nothing too taxing.
    Puzzles are all built around a similar theme; a manipulation of Dark and Light by transporting in and out of two alternate worlds, one of which reveals hidden paths. There is a lot of repetition in the gameplay, and although as you progress, there are different dynamics added to change things up, it all stays pretty samey. This is both a blessing and a curse: the riffing on a theme helps the gentle relaxing pastime of puzzle solving, but also means it can be at times empty sterile and boring.
    There is a backstory which is neither here nor there and some homesy philosophical musings that are just as meh.
    Half the puzzles are fun to solve. a quarter are frustrating, and the final quarter ( if my maths is right) are a walk in the park.
