A fun, virtual life simulation game. It improves upon previous Sims games. The pricing is up for debate, but for the purposes of this review, I did not take pricing into account.

I could never really get into this game. I think part of it was the playstyle, laggy graphics, and other things. I tried to paly the game many times, but it wasn't like the The Sims 2 or The Sims 3 for me. The game got boring fast. Character creation was nice in The Sims 4. House building had some merit in this game too.

I don't see the problem with this game that everyone else does. I think it's actually not bad. I've spent countless hours creating people, in my opinion creating characters is my favourite thing to do. The graphics are a lot more cartoon looking for my liking. I also wish the DLC's were cheaper, $50 aud (as of this review) for the same old thing is getting really annoying.

Build mode is improved a lot but gameplay feels a little boring after a while.
Game mechanics and the "strategic" side of the game is always fun, that's because The Sims series is genius. Anyway Sims 3 is way better.

I have never understood sequels with less features than their predecessors. In a game with as straight-forward of a sandbox concept as The Sims, the only purpose of releasing sequels is significant expansion of the assets and functionality of the game, like Sims 2 open-world towns, greatly enhancing the now somewhat cramped single-lot gameplay of the Sims 1. The Sims 4 deprives the player of the metropolitan shenanigans of the open-world town, undoing a full 14 years of game development undertaken by Sims 2 and 3.
Yet, Sims 1 deftly sidestepped its single-lot limitations with huge expansions such as Makin' Magic. Sims 4 represents an ever-increasing frustration in the gaming industry, locking even basic features behind DLC paywalls. EA continues to drop consumers in a pool with no ladders (except Sims 4 lacks pools, a standard in Sims games since the base game for Sims 1) with its shady monopolizing sales tactics. Gamers are better off buying Sims 3 Complete Edition than reinforcing EA's banditry.

In my opinion, this should not have happened, and the developers, in my opinion, simply want more money. Instead of improving the triple, they preferred to embark on the fourth part, which honestly doesn't bring much. Right from the beginning, I was struck by the graphics, which in my opinion is worse than the one from the previous part, but that's my opinion. Not bad. She is actually pretty and has her own style. However, I preferred the more realistic of the three. Well, the game didn't bring us much new. This is actually a reskin of a threesome, but for the full price, and to make matters worse, of course, there is also a paid DLC, which classically forces you to buy, because sooner or later you will find out that you have nothing to do in the game. For the previous episodes, although they were DLC, at least each episode brought something new and went to see progress. For example, such a work by Simík improved with each work, until in the trio I said unbelievable what my possibilities are, and here in the four, although there is perhaps a little more possibility of creation, there is really nothing dramatically different. So for me, this game is vulgar cash-grab. But if you like the series and long for this virtual life, you'd better stay with the trio or older part. It's not a bad game, but in my opinion it's not worth the money. Yes, we have more emotions, which is nice, but that's probably the only bigger change. For me, an above-average game that I do not recommend. Expand

Even with the major sale where everything is 50% off, it costs $500 to get all DLC which is completely unacceptable. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is good but is a downgrade from The Sims 3, which can be good or bad, less features in life simulation and is more simplified if that's what you want but looks new and refreshed and is not laggy. Its more like the sims 2 with updated graphics but there are some small details missing from that game, oh well (I guess you can't top a classic). Fun to play for a while but then gets bland after you exhaust everything you can do in your sims life. The sale price of $5 is good and is worth it, and it would be ok if the expansions and game packs were the same sale price but they aren't and seem overpriced with the small amount of content they add, (I've played the game with all of the additional dlc), don't even get me started on the stuff packs that add some new items and costs more than the base game LIKE WTH. You should be able to get expansion packs for like $5, $3 or $4 for game packs and $1-2 stuff packs NOT $15 or whatever it is, even some sort of bundle deal for all of the dlcs, but that would be a long shot and EA with the reputation they have i couldn't see them doing that with one of their current games, I wouldn't recommend buying the dlcs if your not rich. And after 7 whole years they have come out with 50+ dlc, I think enough is enough at this point and Maxis and EA should start creating a new sims game which they are rumored to be doing, that is much better by including more features you would find in a life simulation game like the direction the sims 3 was headed, that and not being atriousously laggy would be great. And the sims fans make a big deal whenever there is a small update to the game like when an object is added to the game, the "sims community" somehow makes a whole article about their opinion about bunk beds being added to the game. It was a big step back from TS3. Yes, now with all the patch and expansions we have some of that but it's really not enought if we compare it to the 3rd chapter or even the 2nd. I like the CAS, expecially the direct mouse manipulation and there are some big improvement with the build mode. For these reason and also because I like the new graphic I continued play The Sims 4 instead to go back to TS3. But even now with same good packs and dlc I miss these things expecially the color whell because, (I don't know why, maybe just to troll us players), EA can't put colors consistent with each other. For a build/buy enthusiastic like me this is really, really, annoyng. What's the point of put a bed in wood color that doesn't match with the bedside table? It's a mistery. Otherwise, the previous game is either better, or at least not worse. Removing many things really disappointed me. Not everything was returned even at the time of 2020. And it seems it will not be returned. Most offensively for:

    - An open world (what prevented it from being turned off - an optional option for weak PCs and consoles?)

    - Transport, those cars that are present - it's just a visual effect

    - The remote mode of changing the city, and what is connected with this - the lack of the ability to place the desired site in the desired location

    - Cut the functionality of pets. The inability to hire them or directly manage them. Cat training has not yet been returned.

    - Lack of elaboration of trifles, as in the Sims 2. For example, what prevented the characters from getting kitchen appliances from the cabinets? Or did chess really move during the game?

    - Even more fragmentation of the game into paid addons. For example, if in the Sims 3 with the expansion “Pets” you received a whole bunch of possible pets and items for them, then in the Sims 4 they managed to break it into two separate additions.

    - The possibility of free painting objects

This is not a complete list. Personally, I think that the new parts of the games should get better, not improve only some things, taking away many interesting features in return.

Despite the launch, this game in The Sims franchise has to have the worst DLC, the game is oversaturated with stuff packs and most of the other packs, expansion and game packs, don't add much noteworthy to the game either. Even though the updates have added necessary content, there is some additions that have annoyed me during gameplay: mostly the monster under the bed and death notifications. Fortunately, this game does make building easier, but it also isn't clear on how to place foundations on your household, something very easy to do in The Sims 3. Also, the Create-A-Sim mode has improved greatly and the emotions system, although too easily manipulated, is a great addition. Although the game is much better since its launch, The Sims 4 still has to be the worst game in the franchise. At this point, I'm ready to move on from this game and I'll instead play the previous versions as they were more fun, had more content, improved on the gameplay with expansions and don't annoy me with unnecessary gameplay additions from new updates. I have just played this game after so many years for the first time. I have played Sims 3 and 2, and big fan of Sim City 4. Game works well, technically speaking, but there are so many DLCs that it feels like game is missing half of its content that you should have gotten without paying extra. Yet here we are.
I pretty much never review games, started to do so recently. But I hate to review this game as 5 because it is technically great game, but has so many limitations without DLCs that it feels empty, and now much to do. Why are there only parks gyms nightclubs and museums to visit? Seems like a lot places could have been easily made with editor, like restaurants, cinema, amusement park, cmon, where is your imagination? Graphics are good but Loading screens everywhere.
Game had poor support from what I read in other replies and frankly makes me sad.

    Now for the bad things
    > Lots are locked and traveling around is basic like SIms 2.
    > Removed open world
    > Expansions are split between Expansion Packs, Game Packs and Stuff Packs. None and I mean NONE OF THEM give the amount of stuff Sims 3 gave. In fact many of them give WAY LESS.
    > No cars, just teleporting.
    > Neighborhoods are small and BORING
    > The lifetime rewards are just plain broken.
    > CAS has no color options
    > Lack of good jobs
    > Things that were free in last games ended up coming as updates later proving it was unfinished
    > Game is stripped of all it's content in base game
    > More game breaking glitches than ever. Lots of the time I find my sim stuck next to beds.
    > Terrible graphics at many places
    > Basic Sims features that are missing from this game
    > Load screens everywhere
    > Much less life states
    > Pets are uncontrollable...
    > Cats and Dogs. 40 Dollars for just Cats and Dogs. Sims 3 Pets gave you WAY MORE than just that including controllable animals, horses, stray animals, raccoons, small pets, etc.
    > Over priced DLC especially compared to what Sims 3 offered on every expansion and stuff pack.
    and so many more problems.

The base game had me playing for only 10 hours before dropping it. Sims 3 had me on for weeks. There isn't even that much to do in Sims 4 and if it is, it's the most boring thing ever.

This is basically Sims 2.5. It's not even good enough to be 4 and even with all the DLC included, it's still a boring game especially compared to 3. I mean this game was like it was made with 2004 standards with somehow less content and more to pay for. The only people I'd recommend this game to is people with low end PCs. That's all it's for. Everyone else might as well skip over this and go back to grabbing 3 or 2.

If you only played the base game, of course you'll hate it. There is nothing to do in it. Build up the whole collection, and you'll see how charming and entertaining this game could have been, had they not broken it up across a hundred expansions that make the game experience you wanted cost a fortune. There are a few unforgivable features as well, no doubt, such as the loading screens replacing open worlds, as well as the complete inability to edit or create your own maps, which limits those of us who buy this game to build worlds. It also forgets that its target audience was pretty diverse - those who build, for example, were cut right out of the game. City Living brought apartments, but you can't build your own. There isn't even an option to place your own lot size on a map, as you have to work within the confined plots they give you, which are at a minimum as is. And even if you do buy expansion packs, many don't exceed what we already had in past iterations of the series. I really like Sims 4, but it is held down by its limited vision and won't have the longevity Sims 3 had. Expand

A very addictive game. Maybe it isn't as good as the previous Sims releases, however it is definitely worth a play.
However, the base game doesn't come with much content, and if you want the full game experience, you have to pay hundreds of dollars for all the expansion, game and stuff packs they release. While they are worth getting if you play the game lots, they are really overpriced.

Though sims 4 introduces a genetics system to allow your sims to have babies that borrows traits from their parents..
I chose to live my sim life as a husband with my son and wife..
You start out by choosing 1 of 3 areas to live in, you then purchase a plot of land and get to building with a small but decent budget, enough to get a house going with your essentials..
Its then up to you to fulfill your sims needs based on their characteristics and traits you choose at the start…
I was an athletic romantic husband with a smart and crazy wife, and a charming toddler..
Eventually my wife and child would signal they needed certain items so it was up to me to get a job to afford entertainment for them to keep them preoccupied and happy..
As my mai n character didn’t need too much.. he just needed to workout to keep his mind clear..
But my wife needed mental support, she needed help with our child, cleaning the house, repairing items, while she took breaks to be with herself.. hide from the world a little bit, talk to herself to calm herself down, she had a need to make friends and discover, she has a dork so she needed to play video games to stay happy, another thing for me to take care of…
I was surprised how invested I ended up being in my sim family, of making sure my wife was happy, that I gave her just the right amount of attention and free time…
That I took her on dates and cheered her up by being dumb…
Ending our days occasionally making sweet love…
Which brings me to baby making.. your sims can get pregnant and have babies..
And youll check on your wife constantly, feel her tummy, make her feel beautiful and wanted while you you wait for the baby to come out…
this is how I chose to live my sim life, but you can live yours any way youd like.. you can start out single and go out into the world.. just focus on earning cash to build a massive house…
    Its all up to you..
And you can go back and forth between the different members of your family and interact with eachother any way youd like, you can roll play, make them fight, or keep them happy… or just let the sims do their thing on their own..
I enjoyed my first sims experience..
I get why so many people get addicted to it..
I got my fill of the sims in about 5 hours of fast forwarding and managing everyones needs

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The base game it self is OK, i spent hours on end playing it and it was decent But if you expect to have fun without paying here and there, it's definitely Not going to last very long.

The games is alright. Most of the UI is an improvement and things like dating have been dramatically improved, even interactive. The AI is much better, my sim's date actually shows up on his own fairly often. At the moment the neighborhoods are just too small and without more content the game is just mediocre. There isn't really anywhere to go or anything to do.

Sims 4 is a nice game, as long as the player is new or just a player that does not expect it to be like Sims 3 and better.

Most reviews on here that are negative, are from players that when they got in their hands the initial game, were disappointed to see that a lot of things were changed and in a way downgraded. By now Sims players knows that Sims 4 is more like a new version of Sims 2, rather than of Sims 3. The open-world part of the game was removed and now even if you want to visit a neighbor, you have to wait for a load screen. The map is split in neighborhoods, with each neighborhood having a couple of different buildings (houses and shops), but no matter what, you will see a loading screen when you even go to the next door house. I feel that is the biggest change from Sims 3 to Sims 4, indeed making it feel like Sims 2.

I have no idea why people seem to find weird, the direction of Sims 4 being heavy DLC oriented. Sims 3 was and is THE game most people use a joke, when it comes to expansions and DLC and how games sell basic functions, along with some content. If someone went to buy all the content of Sims 4 from the Origin store right now, they would spend about 270 euro. It still has wait to catch up to the 580 euro cost of Sims 3 and all it's expansions.

As a game I find it really nice and enjoyable. Sims can multitask, which I think it's the best point of it and you can see them squeeze close to others and move between others. I always hated how in SIms 3 and before, it felt like Sims were taking a large square around them, making it impossible for anyone else to pass. Now they move more fluidly.

But always keep in mind; this is a downgrade from Sims 3. Even if the mechanics and physics work better, everything else feels lacking. It has some details lacking, that will make you feel like something goes wrong and it is missing. Like for example there is not firemen anymore and for the lack of firefighters, they added a second fire alarm that has sprinklers.

Of course It has to be pointed out that even after 2+ years, the game is very buggy and at times I feel it is more buggy than Sims 3. Then again, there are not more pathfinding problematic maps.. since there are no maps in general.

Really mixed feelings on Sims 4, when compared to Sims 3, but when compared to Sims 2, the game is great.

Not a horrible game, but the problem with The Sims 4 is that The Sims 3 and 2 came before - and they're better.
    First the pros:
    - The building and Create-a-Sim tools are more intuitive and fluid, and a lot more pleasurable to use. You can move rooms, or the entire house around in the lot anytime you want. - The graphics are beautiful, the sims are more cartoony but they don't have that

    First the pros:
    - The building and Create-a-Sim tools are more intuitive and fluid, and a lot more pleasurable to use. You can move rooms, or the entire house around in the lot anytime you want.
    - The graphics are beautiful, the sims are more cartoony but they don't have that pudding face they suffered from in TS3. But it is a cartoony art style, keep that in mind
    - Multitasking is fun and allows for more realistic simulation. You can watch TV on the treadmill while talking to your friends.
    - The emotions are a new feature, but I find them a mixed bag. One one side, they make the sims more vivid, but on the other, they make all of them react the same way to everything. It is a neat feature, nonetheless.
    - The game is more stable and easier on computers than TS3.

    The cons:
    - There is no toddler life stage (babies go directly to a child and are confined to the crib), teens, young adults, adults and elders all have the same height
    - The are no Create-a-Style or Create-a-Pattern tools, meaning you cannot customize objects and clothes like before. All you can do is choose from premade options by the developers. No way to customize hair or eye color either, you can only choose from the options they give.
    - The world is closed, there is no open world. The base game comes with two worlds, each containing some neighbourhoods inside, witharound 3-5 lots inside each. Your sim can walk freely inside these neighbourhoods, but cannot freely visit the lots. That means: if you want to visit your neighbour's house, close by your house, you have to go through a loading screen.
    - The worlds are also 100% fixed, meaning they are not editable in any sort of way. In TS2, wqe could add and move lots arounds, add neighbourhood decorations as we pleased. In TS3, the worlds were also almost completely editable, and there are hundreds of custom player-created world to download. In The Sims 4, you can't even move the lots. You can't touch the world. And there is no tool to create a new one. So if you want to create new worlds for your stories, well, you won't.
    - Sims now have only 3 trait slots, ands the selection of traits is pretty limited. Also, traits feel very watered down and sims don't usually behave like their traits say they should. Mostly, the way they behave is overcome by the emotions system, making every sim feel less unique.

Overall, I think this game is really mediocre. It was a very disappointing experience for me; it isn't horrible, but it isn't good and there are barely any features in it that make it more worth buying than The Sims 3 or 2. As of now, there's been 2 years since the base game launched, and the expansions and stuff packs released didn't do anything to change the cons I've pointed. So, I wouldn't recomend this game. I say, go buy TS3 and skip TS4.

Maybe even getting to choose their walk( though it is affected by mood). The chance to run your own retail business seems interesting (but you need so much money to do that, it seems like an impossible dream). But in many ways the actual gameplay feels like a step backwards. The Sims 3 has a much more free-flowing feel to it. And the ability to move anywhere in your town (and watch them do so) feels far better than having to sit through load-screens whenever you go past the end of the block. I wish some of the innovations had been added to The Sims 3, via one of the many updates. I much prefer The Sims 3 and will probably stick with it. I do like that Aspirations are not set in stone (unlike Life Time Wishes) and that you can give them new Aspirations when the have completed their currant one; or change easily at any time. Along with many, many, many expansion packs and stuff packs I have purchased over the course of many years. In a lot of ways Sims 4 is akin to Sims 2, normally there'd be nothing wrong with going back to the roots, but in this case I didn't expect them to take away everything from the game that made the Sims 3 so incredible. It disappointed me in the worst way. There was... so much they could have done for the Sims 4 that would have made it far surpass its predecessors. Instead, it chose to ignore all the great things of 3 and simply went back to a new, better version of 2. If the Sims 4 had the flexibility in design, in everything, that the 3 does... they would have had an extreme bestseller on their hands. When 4 was first introduced I was soooo excited. I was excited for the new graphics, for the more humanization of the Sims; I was thrilled. And then I got the game as a gift and couldn't wait to play it. I think the new owners of this game unintentionally set themselves up for failure, and it breaks my heart a little bit because I hold this game so near and dear. If they had combined Sims 3 with 4... well I think this game could have been brought up to #1. Perhaps Sims 5 (if there is one) will hold up to my high standards that I hold for this game, simply because I am and always shall be a Simmer. Waited a year so the game could iron out issues, got it on sale from Origin.

The Short story, not worth retail price, pick it up on sale instead. It is a good game, not a great game.

    Longer more in-depth:

    Positives:

    - Create-A-Sim is by far the best ever, hands down.

    - The game runs like a dream, no frame drops or slowdowns from the 20 hours I've put in so far unlike Sims 3 which would start to slog. I don't have an impressive machine, a 3 and a half year old laptop with i7 2.3ghz processor, 8gb of ram and 2gb GT630m gaphics chip, good but outdated now, and this game runs smooth with near max visuals.

    - Managing multiple households is back from Sims 2, and its very nice to switch between families and keep control when you're really getting into the personal storytelling.

    - Sim interactions are extremely well done, Emotions are interesting, sims can finally multitask, idle animations feel more authentic.

    - The gallery is awesome and convenient, so adding lots and/or households is very efficient, no more quitting the game and relaunching.

    - Babies aren't as annoying and have more interactions, and sims don't just leave them on the floor now that they're attached to the crib thing.

-The multiple worlds being able to interact with each other, fluidly feels amazing.

    - Load times are not bad.

    Negatives:

    - Load times are annoying, end up staying at home more often then leaving.

    - Lack of open world makes you lose visibility and continuity feel of Sims 3. The neighbourhood system is a good idea, as it strains your PC less as the game world matures compared to Sims 3, but the neighbourhoods should have been open world within themselves, its odd to be able to walk down your street, only to have to go through a loading screen if you want to visit a neighbour.

    - Career choices feels lackluster so far.

    - Toddlers not being included is awkward, not missed too much, but very awkward...

    - Babies are just objects in all honesty, they have always been, but now its super obvious.

    - Navigating build/buy mode is a little odd to adapt to.

    - No Create-A-Style is annoying.

    - My biggest issue has been the lack of Story Progression. Non-controlled Sims age and interact. But don't marry, have kids or so on. Hell, of the 15 kids I've seen, 11 are from my Sim knocking up everyone, 4 are from the Gallery! There is a mod to correct this, much like NRASS mods for Sims 3, so I remedied that situation.

    - The sheer number of expansions, game packs and stuff packs within 1 year and 3 months is absurd, there are 9 in total!!!! At least they're priced a bit better than before (still not worth the cost though)

So overall, the game is solid, but has WAY too much to improve. I have been enjoying it thoroughly, but I'd say not to buy it unless its on sale, I picked it up for 60% off, that pricing is much better than retail and I'd say equals its value more or less.

I really like how the sims look. But there are so many annoying features about the game. For example, the recent update means that if you want your sim to take a shower and you have it in a queue with other things (e.g. shower, then go to the toilet, then cook breakfast) the game cancels out the shower. Another thing is that when you want to cancel a conversation with other sims to talk to someone else, it takes up to an hour (sims time) to leave the conversation, which is extremely annoying. Also when I want my sim to do something (e.g. gardening), they often just decide to do something completely different, which is time wasting and especially annoying when you have a large family and are trying to make several sims build skills at once. It's a fun game, but without the (very expensive) expansion packs there isn't much to do. Expand

Really not an awful game, just not as much control over Build/Buy stuff like in TS3. The Sims themselves are much more interesting to create. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is so inconsistent. In many ways. Some features are so polished while others are just there. I'm not talking about obvious missing features like toddlers, open world, cast, etc. I can play my style without them. But sims themselves. Sometimes I feel that connection trait-action-emotion doesn't exist at all. And sometimes I think 'Oh, that's a nice touch!'. Other problem is that game shows steps to reach a goal. I'm more or less OK with goal-oriented play, but knowing what exactly I get if I do this and that in advance kills desire to reach that goal. No surprise element. Another huge problem to me is inconsistency through game life-cycle. One would wonder what else will be broken after a patch. You start to play a sim who wants to become a friend of the world and the next patch break social status' system of the game.
CAS and multitasking are the only absolute positives to me. I have mixed feelings about all other. Emotions for example could be great. But they are so unbalanced that they become meaningless. Building is awesome but why all my whole lot has to have same foundation height. And it's too easy to make simoleons and there's not enough ways to spend them. Price which you could sell fruits of high quality is ridiculous. A blueberry for 6 900 simoleons... There are so many other things that neither good or bad. So it's a game that I bought but wish I spent my money on different things.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have two works to describe my feelings towards this game; not satisfied.
I was itching with anticipation for the Sims 3 but the results were disappointing, especially considering I'm not a video games person and the one game that I am excited for, that I save up for, that I just cant wait for was a complete waste of time and money.
The house building and create-a-sim aspect of it, PERFECT. If only they had of directed their brilliant thinking and creativity to some other aspects of Sims 4.
The major let downs for me are:
    1) The camera angle- Being a major fan of The Sims 3 conditioned me to be accustomed with the camera angle flexibility. Sims 4 dished up a stiff and awkward camera ange which constantly frustrates he heck out of me!
    2) Inability to explore the world- This new feature makes me feel extremely restricted. I'm forced to go wherever my Sim is going, I may as well be a sim myself.
    3) The deathly loading screen- What were they thinking? Watching your fat Sim attempt to run all the way to the park was half the fun. I think this feature is a drag, it strips away the feeling of realness to the game and is a blatant reminder, 'oh that's rights its a game.' It really just ruins the consistency in the flow of sims.
    4) SWIMMING POOLS- why EA? Why would you take away my ability to watch my sims drown!

To sum up, I think the new Sims offers nothing but a mundane, day-in-day-out lifestyle for your sim/sims. The game is tasteless and unappetising. I am going to be sticking with Sims 3.

They have only really taken away features that made the Sims 3 better than the Sims 2. I think they need to add things like toddlers and Co back into the game for it to be better than The Sims 3. But it is still a good game, I especially like create a sim as you can customise your sims much more, I also like the gameplay a lot more as there are more/different interactions that you can do.

Let's start with the good points. Create a sim has been improved compared to the previous games. The tools and mechanics are different and you can now really go into detail and change everything. There's a wide range of different clothing and hair styles too which is pretty neat. The gameplay is solid and the graphics are sharp and pretty, even though they are more cartoon like however I prefer this. I also like the community/online features because you can share buildings and sims with other simmers from around the world. I also like how EA are adding conent and features for free with each update.

However there is a big list of negatives as well. The loading screens are annoying, in Sims 3 there was an open town but now when travelling to places you are faced with a lengthy loading screen. They ned to sort out the marriage feature as well. The woman's name does not change when she gets married and some things with the relationships are annoying too. They also got rid of create a style which is annoying, especially when creating a sim because i'd always use it to change the eye colour or hair colour. There are no toddlers which further annoys me. You can age a sim up from a baby straight to a child which means it's missing a stage and no doubt EA will bring this out in a paid expansion!

It is certainly an interesting game and can get you hooked for a while but I would not call it an improvement over the previous installments in the series.

Interest Level: 7/10 - The game is interesting and can be a lot of fun but is not exceptional
Sounds: 7/10 - The sounds are basic but that is no problem
Gameplay: 6/10 - With all Sims games the gameplay is never outstanding and this new game proves that
Graphics: 8/10 - I really like the sharp cartoony style to the game
Physics: 6/10 - You cannot really rate this game on physics so it can have a six!

Final Score: 68 - Not really an improvement on the previous ones but is still a solid game.

This game is okay. I mean, yes the new features in build mode and create a sim are highly helpful, but it's extremely lacking. No basements? A 3-floor limit? NO OPEN WORLDS!?!?!? No toddlers? Limited interaction with babies? No create-a-style? This game was very rushed and definitely needs some major improvements if the creators want the series to live on.

It starts with caracter creation - superb! You can create anything brom fat melon-like ameba to triangular lean beefcake. The clothing options aren't THAT great but they're satisfying.
Interaction between characters has been taken to the next level. Multitasking works really good. You can play a game, listen to the music and talk to a friend at the same time. Only this makes this game brilliant.
Loading screens everywhere? Ok, I've got SSD drive and loading takes about 5 seconds. Not a big deal. This isn't Skyrim with open world. Sims 3 wasn't super attractive just because of that.
The improved careen system works very good.
I would recommend two mods for this game - slower timescale and superfast speed. Works as should be.

There is only 1 active lot at a time, all other lots are inactive. The lack of customization (no color wheel, no CASt - create a style from Sims 3) really frustrates me as I like to build houses. There is only one style of interior door that is not white! All other interior doors are white (well sort of, it's kind of a grayish white). The hair styles are limited with only a limited range of color options. So if you enjoy rotational gameplay and don't care about generational type play you'll probably enjoy TS4.

The positives: the new emotions system (not that big of a deal) and the multitasking (which is the only shining part of TS4 to me). Your Sim can eat while watching TV and having a conversation with their friends or family members. Also, when you can bear to go through the loading screen to a community lot, you will see many Sims who are actively interacting with each other which is a big improvement over TS3.

Supposedly the reason that EA has given for dropping the open world and going back to the single active lot was to have a more stable game that would run smoothly on lower end computers. Which might be acceptable if it worked that way but unfortunately it doesn't. There are bugs and glitches galore. More disturbing are the core problems that will always be with TS4 like Sims walking through each other. I'm not kidding, they walk completely through another Sim. There is also a lot of clipping like hands passing through another Sim or a desk or counter. Just go to the official Sims forums and check out the posts in the technical discussions section and you'll see what kind of issues people are having. My game on a $1600 custom build desktop that exceeds specs for the game crashes to the desktop every few hours of gameplay. The price has dropped and if you look around you can buy it online cheaper than in the stores (I paid $43 for a Limited Edition version the week after it came out). Or if you're not certain about it, buy it through Origin early on a day that you can spend hours playing it and return it in less than 24 hours and get your money back if you don't like it. If you like the open world of TS3 and the customization of TS3 and if you don't like rotational gameplay, stay far, far away from this game as you'll end up like me just removing it from your hard drive and forgetting about it.

The ability to do two things at once, model character faces and build houses with my detail and ease are some fine additions to this sequel, but not enough of an addition to make it acceptable. The Sims 4 gets thumbs up for its Sim character additions, such as the moods, although they do change too frequently.

    It's all gone.

Technically, it's proficient. It gets the job done and I ran into almost no bugs or glitches during my playtime of the game. The game runs well, but since only one lot is rendered at any given time, that's not really an accomplishment. The interface is streamlined and more efficient, but since most of the features are missing, I don't suppose there was a lot to even put on there in the first place. Graphically, I suppose the Sims look slightly better, but a slight graphical improvement doesn't justify repackaging everything and telling us to start over.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
