This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the animation and how most of this pack is organized, but as you might have seen my score is quite low, the lowest I could possibly give in-fact. This is due to one of the most important features (being able to control your pets) being ripped out of my hands, I may sound bitter (which I am) but that's because when I heard that this expansion pack was coming out I was elated. I had been wrestling Sims 3 for years trying to be like the famous Youtubers and make my own warrior cats challenge, I begged my family for the VERY expensive pack (and the actual game) and after a while they agreed, I couldn't be happier, I was already planning the storyline and names for the cats, but when I saw my favorite Youtuber review the pack my smile dropped. She couldn't control the pets, I thought it was some joke, because she had gotten it before the release date, so I thought maybe the ability to control your pets just wasn't in the game yet. So when the day came I was hoping, crossing my fingers and I let the pack load and install, when it was done I made myself a family (as that was the first time I had played sims 4) and a beginning cat, when we had finally moved into the house I went to the cat and tried to click on her, nothing, you can't even see their needs. Like a few other comments have mentioned the fact that you can't control them make them an object. A.FLIPPIN.OBJECT! And guess what?! Your cats and dogs can't hunt either, and if they go anywhere near the 'special bushes' around Brindleton Bay your cat or dog will get beat up by a squirrel, A FLIPPIN SQUIRREL! I am not impressed Ea, because I'm sure without meaning to that you've ruined my sims 4 pets experience, I don't even use them, as they're a hassle and you always have to ask them "what's wrong?" and my pets don't seem to notice the food dishes or litter boxes right in front of their faces. If you want this pack get it, but if you're hoping to control the pets and make a series then don't waste your precious money Expand

My favorite thing about this pack is the fact that each household plays and feels different depending on the type of pet you add to your households. The cats and dogs are very detailed, vibrant, and have very unique and distinct personalities. My frisky cat is always running around the house, jumping onto counters and whatnot, while my lazy cat doesn't do much of anything besides meow when she needs attention. My playful dog will come beg to play fetch with my sim while my stubborn dog ignores discipline and continues peeing in the house. My glutton dog will eat his entire bowl of food in the morning and then beg for more food while my sims are eating breakfast, while my loyal and smart dog will stay by my sims side and learn to behave quickly. The new world added in this pack is beautiful and adds a lot of activities for the pets themselves, chasing birds, digging holes, exploring bushes, mud piles and fish piles, cats can even roam and jump around the environment. The vet aspect is also a lot of fun, your pets will occasionally get sick and you'll have to take them to the vet to care for them, you can also run a vet, and depending on the type of player you are that can be a good or bad thing. All in all there's a lot of thought and detail put into this pack. The three main new features, the cats and dogs, the new world, and the vet, are all so tightly knit together in such a deep and meaningful way that makes each and every last detail with these pets just as enjoyable as when I first got the pack. This pack feels like an expansion for your sims, these pets expand your sims lives in very subtle but impactful ways, these pets feel like real pets, and I love that. I would recommend this pack to anyone who wishes to expand their sim families with a little furry twist. Expand

Did they really have to add the part about dogs peeing all over the house and eating cat poo out of the cat pan? And drinking dog pee? I think some of the programers have some kind of problem. Otherwise, I guess it is okay.

Sims 4 cats and dogs is a somewhat decent pack, it does what it says on the tin and offers cats and dogs to The Sims 4 Gameplay. Running a vet is effective and brindleton bay is a decent world. However , I would expect more , why is there no horses and this sims 4 pack is quite forgettable. - I hardly use cats and dogs in my households. 5.5 /10 Overall the pack is somewhat effective

If you love Sims 4 so much you spend hours and hours playing it every single day, then you might enjoy this. If not, then don't waste your money buying it.

This pack does not really bring anything new. They've basically just reused everything from the Retail pack to make a vet clinic so it doesn't really feel like a new experience to play as a vet. There are no new careers, only one very uninteresting new aspiration. What you can actually do with your pets is so limited that it doesn't really give that much new content to the game.
I've played Sims since the very beginning and own absolutely every single pack ever released for Sims 1, 2 and 3. I even played Sims Online for ages. The Sims 4 series has basically just been a major let down with every new pack being more disappointing than the last.

The Sims 4 has always been about finding new ways to re-work and re-sell old content at a higher price, and this trend continues with The Sims 4: Pets - whoops - I mean Cats & Dogs. I suppose the inevitable Horses game pack will cost another $20.

When asked if the pets would be playable, one of the producers said "define playable". Excuse me? Playable like they were in the previous

When asked if the pets would be playable, one of the producers said "define playable". Excuse me? Playable like they were in the previous game you worked on, a$$hole! Naturally, they said because of the way the pets' AI works, there was no way they could make them playable. Okay.. well, how did they make the Sims themselves playable then?

Excuses: it's always about excuses with this franchise now. I know it's not fair to "review" a product without playing it, but The Sims 4 has been such a huge slap in the face to its fans, I felt the need to say something, especially as things seem to have only gotten worse since its inception.

Not much to see here. Sure you can have fun designing your own pet but they don’t actually do much of anything. You can’t control them so they are really just objects. This EP is one of the weakest yet and is of extremely poor value. More of a stuff pack.

A good addition. The animals will look good. It's bad that without the mod, the animals themselves walk in the same city, but I have a mod and so there are almost no disadvantages. The only bad thing is that it is in this part of the animals that the mood often falls and this is strange.

Una expansión divertidísima, con un montón de razas de perros y gatos muy personalizables, una nueva profesión (veterinario) y mecánicas nuevas divertidas. 7,8/10

I can't help myself but I am disappointed again. Yea, cats and dogs are actually cute...BUT! I expected something more like animal shelters, the career of an animal trainer, animal exhibitions...we got just a vet (software is taken from the Doctor and given to animals). It is poor. I like walks with the dogs, but you train them so quickly that it gets boring very soon. No trueI can't help myself but I am disappointed again. Yea, cats and dogs are actually cute...BUT! Ultimately, the expansion is about the bond between human and animal, and with evolving relationships, dog training, and plenty of toys, it’s hard to put down. It may not have the bells and whistles that some players expected, but Cats and Dogs still gets my recommendation if you’re a pet lover.

The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs bravely reintroduces a game mechanic from The Sims 2: the player won't be able to control the pets. This feature might be seen as a step back in the evolution of the franchise but it is actually a good design choice that adds more realism and focuses player attention towards the interaction between the Sims and their beloved little friends, creating a well-crafted simulation experience.

There’s not a lot about this expansion that reinvents the wheel; the franchise has been around for almost two decades now, and each iteration essentially gives you flashier and more refined ways to enjoy old systems. The animals are realistic, have their own inscrutable temperaments, and sometimes live to frustrate; that’s their charm. You’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t love hanging out with cute critters, and Cats & Dogs is yet another great addition to a consistently high-performing saga.
