The Sims 2 Seasons

There is no question that the previous expansion packs (especially "University" and "Pets") wore out their welcome after a while. However, you’ll be playing with the effects of Seasons probably for the rest of your life – or if/until a "The Sims 3" comes out.

If nothing else, the changing of the seasons and their impact on your quirky Sims add even more variety and life to an already amusing people simulator.

It has well-balanced gameplay, and the fishing and gardening allow your Sims to finally relax and enjoy the great outdoors instead of constantly being in motion. Unfortunately, with all of these new features come even longer loading times.

Another small genesis for the franchise, which is now scarily ever closer to being as true a life simulation as it could possibly be.

One of the more expansive expansions and easily one worth your time and money.

The fun comes from watching how differently each season unfolds and how it affects your Sims: Winter helps with family bonding, spring brings romance, summer builds friendships, and fall quickens learning new skills.

It includes weather, gardening, fishing, and a few new career paths. These features may not sound like much, but they're enough to make this one of the best expansion packs in the series...The main drawback to The Sims 2: Seasons is the price.

Seasons certainly takes the title in an entertaining direction, and does what any good expansion should – it builds on the experience. While not without a few errant cloudbursts, the expansion still manages to soak up the sun and provide a bright gaming experience.

Changing seasons provide great visuals for the passage of time, as sims grow up and mature. The effect is subtle, but it makes raising a sim family a more enjoyable and memorable experience.

Fishing, kissing, catching fireflies at night, building snowmen, wishing down the well and socialising around a campfire singing songs when the sun is setting is the back to basics gameplay that we were after this time around.

A great expansion pack to The Sims 2. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it’s the best one out there. No, it doesn’t have the volume of changes and additions that some of the other ones have, but everything in Seasons fits so very well with The Sims 2 that it’s hard to imagine playing the game without it.

The new additions made the game that much better.

Adding new careers, farming, fishing and seasons makes Seasons one of the biggest expansion packs yet.

It adds seasonal weather, crop farming, and some new group activities that can actually make the challenging gameplay of Sims 2 a more relaxed pastime. For players looking for a slower-paced experience that doesn't require you to keep track of the ins and outs of an in-game business--or constantly watch a hyperactive pet--this is a good thing.

The weather effects are quite wonderful, and there's something perfectly cosy about having a snowstorm fluttering outside the window, but they only change the game as much as you want them to. After the tenth rainstorm, the novelty starts to wane.

Some nice cosmetic effects, new jobs and, er clothes await you the, Sims fans. If you really have to. And we know that some of you do. You sickos. [Apr 2007, p.73]

All of which leaves this expansion pack as probably the least essential yet. It won't disappoint any fans, sure, but there's little to make lapsed devotees come in from the cold. [May 2007, p.89]
