    For purchase price, it's a great game. Different from anything out on the market -- but it isn't the sort of thing twitcher will like. I can't sit and play for 8 hours straight, but if there are folks on the servers, it is always good for a 2 hour session.

You are assigned someone else to kill on the map with no security watching, and with not too many witnesses or you will go to jail. You must take care of your needs (eating, sleeping, etc...) or you will suffer the consequence which is usually death. You have to find all the weapons from the beginning, and some weapons are worth more money to kill with than others. When you will with a weapon, it's MFK (money for kill) will go down, whereas if you don't use a weapon very much, it will have higher MFK. That isn't it all, but that's basically the jist of it. Let's compare it to other FPS's such as Halo or Counter-Strike: Kill everyone that isn't on your team, get the most powerful weapon, complete and objective occasionally such as rescuing hostages or capturing the flag. Wow, Seti Alpha 6 must really really hate the developers, or only played the game for two minutes to say something like that. I will admitt that the graphics aren't amazing, but they are certainly not boxes with ugly textures and lighting. Appearently this guy has an axe to grind, so just don't listen to his review. Another person complained about the story mode being too short and not enough people playing, but first of all, it was only intended to be multiplayer....singleplayer is only an add-on. It's not supposed to be long. As for there not being enough people, well it's about to be released in many more countries on retail within the next couple months, so that should help, plus the developers are soon going to start advertising it in some way. It would also help if people like Seti Alpha 6, and many many others, would just not make reviews if they can't make honest ones. I'd normally give this an 8 or 9, but I'm gonna try to boost this game's score a little bit.… Expand

    The only thing I can compare this game is to paint drying. I spent $20 on this crappy game which nobody is playing online. The single player can be completed in 2 hours or less.

    Terrible game, just get's worse every time you play it. After you get the hang of where to look for good weapons nobody is playing, it's one of the worst games out there.

    This game is only for fans of the original game. I have never heard of it or like it. The game has sold fewer than 200 copies hence the lack of players for mult-player, yet itâ??s been out for months now via STEAM and over 4 weeks for retail. You can see why as its very bugged, and the gameplay is stale and there is nothing to do in the levels. Itâ??s so unhead of that it has This game is only for fans of the original game.     I was hoping this game would be really good as I saw a review of it on the games forum. I am shocked that a game could be so over priced for what it has to offer. I installed it and had to wait 2 hours for an update, then I completed single player story in 2 hours although I had to restart some of the levels due to bugs stopping my progression?     This game can be completed in just over an hour in single player mode. The multi-player game if you can find anyone to play is not that exciting. The gameplay is limited and the novelty will wear off after a few goes. I had to wait over an hour before I could join another round which is not fun at all. I would not recommend this game.

All the while you have to watch your basic needs (eating, drinking, sleeping, etc) and watching out for someone else who's hunting you. Let's compare that to pretty much every other FPS out there: run around, kill people, occasionally complete an objective. I don't understand how Seti Alpha could say such a thing. Another thing he mentioned was bad graphics, I know they weren't amazing, but they're most definately not "boxes with ugly textures and lighting". The maps have very good detail, and besides, graphics aren't everything. Another person, Major Tom, gave it a low score mostly because of how litle people play it, and how short the story mode was. First of all, story mode was a simple add-on. This game is a multiplayer game, and you really shouldn't get it for story mode. As for the small smount of players...well... if people like Seti Alpha 6 (and many others) could write an honest review, because the bad ones will stop people from buying it. Besides, the amount of players is slowly rising, and many of the existing players are advertising it a lot. I understand why he was mad, since he didn't really know about the story mode being a small add on, but a score of 1 is pretty harsh. Please, buy this game, if you want unique gameplay, different from all the other games out there. Don't listen to poor reviews such as the one from Alpha, since he clearly has either only played the game for a couple minutes, or hates the developers for some reason. That is all.… Expand

    I have played the Ship since right after its release. It has always been a very good game. The gameplay and the thrill of the hunt is addictive. However, the one downside is the general lack of servers. It caused me to stop playing the game. As long as a decent-sized community continues to come to play, the game will remain as one of the best multiplayer experiences out there.

    A dodo of a game. It wonâ??t be around for long, only 10 people are playing even after retail. Single player has no hope to it too and has to be restarted several times due to gameplay bugs, I finished this game in 3 hours?????? Complete waste of time and money, oh yes it looks pretty drab too, do they know how to make good art?

The other game modes offer no Gamplay or any real satisfaction. The graphics are some of the worst animated ugly lookers I have ever seen, the levels are just boxes with ugly textures and lighting.     If you wanna get a break off of the fast paced-kill-everything-in-your-sight games, then do yourself a big favor and buy this game. I laugh so much when I play this. It's well worth the $20.

    I won't give it a 1, but no more then a two, after half - an - hour you're wondering what happened to that 20 bucks... someone said a $20 demo... it really really is, would of been a great Single Player if we could get some story-line, someone screwed up, Yeah me for buying it...sad sad day, Sorry Steam try again!

    It is BLATANTLY apparent that this metascore is TOTALLY BEING SKEWED to push a higher rating on a game STEAM includes in their opening for sale.

    Notice the most generic names like "Carmen G." and "Mason E." that all give 10s with a dopey one-liner.

    SHAME ON YOU AND STEAM LOSES A POINT IN RESPECT.

    This game is a lot of fun against a full server of real people. It's a lot slower-paced than most of the Source games (Counter-Strike of course, being the #1) so it won't appeal to everyone. But your kills require some planning and thought to avoid being caught by security or other passengers. Likewise, the music is old-fashioned and right now we could use a few more tracks to make it a little more interesting. The most recent patch appears to have fixed all of the noticable bugs and as always the developers are working to get any remaining ones. I have regularly seen members of the developers team on servers and they do pay attention to problems/ideas you point out to them. Players are a little sparse, but since the game is not released in stores until the 29th September, that can be forgiven. Well worth a try for the price.… Expand

    Apart from the lag after every kill and the quite odd camera view, every aspect of this game is quite acceptable. The graphics are quite astonishing as well as the pure intesity of being hunted down while you hunting as well. I would definintly recomend buying this game if you are a Sims, and fps fan.

    Interesting idea on the surface but I found myself getting frustrated with the Ship after a while. I am not sure I like the look of the game compared to other ones out there. I am not too angry as this is a budget title. Also found that the servers were quite empty and it was difficult finding players.

    Now that virtually every major bug is fixed, this game is amazing! It's simply the most unique and original fps I have EVER played in my life. It's a humongous step from the HL1 mod (which was also very fun to play). The even better thing about this game is that it's only going to keep getting better.     I was excited when I head that this game was about to be released. Yet, I was dissapointed. The release of the game had MANY bugs and problems. Exploits were easily found and for a while, the game was at a slow pace. The number of servers on the game are not as great as the rest of Steam's FPS's, showing how popular this game really is with the general gamer.     This game rules! I get to eat, sleep, and kill. I loved the Sims 2, but it didn't have enough death. But The Ship is a combination, I love it!

If you're the typical hardcore CS:S style fps or the 'shoot anything that moves' type, this game may not be fore you. Why? Because it is, in fact, alot slower paced, seeing as you only kill one person who's name is given to you. But, believe you me, you'll find your adrenaline pumping as you reach for your katana as you finally find your Quarry (prey) in a secluded area, then realizing your very own hunter is pulling out his axe right next to you ready to chop you away. This is a game about strategy as well as... well, in lack of a better term - quickness. The only reason I do not give this a perfect score is due to the fact that, yes, it has its bugs. For this alone I'd give it an 8 but the bugs are so trivial (and are currently being fixed) that it barely makes any difference to the game. This game is both funny, fun, and at times fast, and with the right group of people (which is mostly what you're gonna get. Don't worry, no "1337 h4xors" claiming they "pwn you" and calling you "n00b" everywhere. This currently is my personal favorite game and will become more so when the new patch comes out fixing all the bugs. Well, most, at least. And, sure, it used to be a free HL1 mod, but so was CS:S. And LIKE CS:S it's popularity and quality grew so great that it's now a standalone in the very beautiful Source engine. Which, IMO, they couldn't have picked a better engine, and you'll agree when you take a second from killing and look out at the beautiful water surrounding the Ships. So for only $20 it's a sure winner. But don't take my word for it. Try it out yourself.… Expand

    This game should first of all get an 7.5 or 8. My opinion is that its a creative game with alot of depth to it. The gameplay is simple. Of course, some like it and some might not. There are many varities which lead to different results in killing. It may be look like a childish game, but it has more fun in it than you think.

    The concept of this game is somewhat cool but I need more weapons like guns and things of that nature. There's just not enough to the game to keep me interested for more than a few minutes.

    I love this game, especially its art deco. Loved the mod too all I can say are good things about this game. Although there are some bugs they will be fixed.

    this game is ok nothing special. It has far tom many bugs to make it fun. Not great but average. One big problem is there are never any more then 70 people playing it so not really great multiplayer too.

    I played this last night. It was an average hour of entertainment but the servers kept crashing and I was troubled by wonky doors that seem to make me get caught in the walls. It feels a bit like a MOD instead of a real game. I somehow doubt it is worth all these 10s that you are seeing here as I spent some time on the company's forum for the game and noticed that players wereI played this last night.     these people do not liek th egame because of its subtle bugs and problems. It is a great game, and it deserves a better rating because outer life will fix these problems . i have been talking to a guy from the ship forums and hes from outerlife. he says, the single player game is being worked on, so in a little while that will be out, and te bugs will be fixed.

    this game a was a horrible game a i agree w/ many of the other reviewers that the gliches were quite bad and the maps small. though a full patch is suposed to come out to make the game better the chances are people wont keep playing.

    This is a truly fantastic game, a good premise, nice graphics and great sounds, easily deserving of a 10. Unfortunately due to a bunch of cs kiddies, it is nearly unplayable online. They can't seem to grasp the concept of stealth and just run around shooting stuff as though it's Counter-Strike ruining the enjoyment of all intelligible players, thus it gets an 8.

It hasn't come out on it's official release yet, and when it is it will be virtually bugless with more players and maps. The develepors didn't have to release it on Steam early for us, they could have waited until it was perfect, but they were being nice and did it. The gameplay is very unique and I like the vast choice of weapons (which will only get better through updates). I kind of like the graphics, although most people will disagree with that. I will agree that the graphics aren't overly that great (especially for a Source game), but the maps have a lot of detail and I like the style of graphics in it. The only big thing I am unhappy with right now is the sound. You can't hear a gun being fired only a few feet away (but this will be fixed in an update). I would normally give it a 8 or 9 but this game does not deserve a 5.9 overall so I will give it a 10 to help raise it's score.… Expand

    If I had bought this game via a shop I would have taken it back straight away. The game is flawed by hundreds of bugs, it does not even load the title page correctly on any setting. Did anyone test this? I think not, save yourself the hassle and buy a game that works!

A different story if you paid money for it as its not very good value. It looks and plays terrible, the gameplay is more then boring, I have had more fun watching pant dry and that is the truth.     Let this be a lesson learnt that you cant trust the quality of games released via download. The developer has never published a game before and I can see why. This is one of the worst games I have ever played or owned. I will be deleting it as its not worth the HD space it takes up.     I bought this game and It does not work properly, I keep falling trough the decks and the doors jam players into the side walls. Donâ??t think this game has been tested just released to make a quick buck and con people.

    This MOD is not very good. It has goofy animation and clumsy animations that look silly. The needs system is confusing and very bland. The levels are boring and the few severs that are around have people just walking about not really knowing what to do. Overall a waste of money.

    Dissapointing.. I downloaded it yesturday and was looking forward 2 play it when i got back from school. What a dissapointment!, almost no one plays it, hard 2 get into , Boorng gameplay, outdated graphics, fair sounds... And so little maps... Not impressive. Gave it a 3. 20§ out of nowhere.. Dont buy it!

    I believe this game isn't recieving the rating it deserves. There are some bugs, yes, but it's nothing that's kept me from playing the game. You may see people floating around in the sleeping, reading, sitting, etc. position, but it's not all that common. The only real problem with this is that the person is in third person at the time, and slightly harder to notice a weapon being pulled out. This can easily be remedied by a different animation thing. In response to David L.'s post. You should never, ever buy a PC you want to use for gaming from an Intel-using company, especially one like Dell -- always overpriced. With that said, yes, I have experienced some freezes. Never any crashes, but my computer has frozen a few. The major problem was with me being in Windowed mode -- only once in a blue moon will it happen in full. Response to Simon E.'s: The rounds are short in Hunt, and some servers have longer rounds than others. Between 90 seconds to three minutes. However, on Elimination, the only time the round ends is when there's only one hunter left. Last man standing, and if you die early on it's your own fault (or a result of really bad luck). As for all the comments about graphics. It's not supposed to look realistic; it's supposed to be of a comical fashion. The graphics aren't at all Jerky, as David L. put it. At least not for me and my averagely-good (Athlon 64 3200+) computer. The sounds are actually really good and well done (go to the bathroom and take a listen, hahah.) There aren't hundreds of thousands playing this game, like some OTHER games (cough, CS, cough) -- but there will always be at least one or two servers full with players. During the day, it's generally around 4-6 servers. Just check the server info and look for servers that don't have "Shipmate X" all over the play, and join -- or get into the Queue to join if it's full. The bots are really stupid, but it's understandable because this is meant to be a multiplayer game. Though, the arcade mode is nice to find those secrets out. Walking speed is slow and realistic (Diamond Dog seems to be too used to the constant running-like movement speed for all other games' walking). My ratings; Gameplay is definately a 9, Graphics are a 7, Sound is 10. That creates an average of 8 1/3, but I voted 10 to try and boost the rating for all those people voting 0-5, since this game is definately not below average.     Overall, great grahpics, great music, great concept, and tons of fun. Although the game does lose its "newness" quickly and playing the same 7 or so maps becomes repetitive. But it still is well worth 20 dollars.

    Funny game, good concept, might need some work on the graphics and some more maps. I bought the game a few days after it was released. I had no problems with the game what so ever. Ofcourse there were some bugs but not so drastic that it affected the gameplay. So in the end: For a little bit of cash, a pretty funny and descent game.

To my shock I posted a question on The Ship online forums with my question to why it was crashing. To my horror other people that did manage to get the game to run had many issues with the game and these were not just performance issues. Rather then help or post a good suggestion they just wrote of my PC along with other peoples, saying the game did not work due to minimum spec or that we did not install it correct. Well I am furious, they released a patch a couple of days later and behold it worked, but only just. This game is unplayable due to the amount of bugs, people falling through the levels, doors getting stuck trapping the player, the list is endless. There is no ready help available and the moderators are to put it politely they were very rude. It also turns out that these moderators were also the Beta Testers, do you see the connection now? This game has been released untested, it is shocking how they can get away with this, If I had bought it from a shop I would have returned it and got my money back. I just want to warn people before they shell out for this, because they will think thatâ??s ok its cheap but beleave me there are levels of cheap and this is the bottom of the barrel.     This is funny game, cheap and cheerfull. could do with some better looking levels. i think the characters are nice until the walk kinda like they are doing a toilet whilst walking.

    PC Gamer gave this 61%. I read the 1up review and agree with them. The game is far too limited, and gets boring after half hour. Only six maps thats very small compared to other games of this type.

    This game is ok, but If you want a game similar to this that looks better I would wait for Cruise to Kill next year it looks so much better and has over 20 full ships to explore in and even has a Titanic level that sinks in real time, how cool. You even get online play and it has over 50 weapons to use on your victims.

    Team Fortress 2 will be a better game as this is not as good. The graphics are ok, a bit too dark but this is on purpose as it is vey basic. Trying to get the bigger maps to work but it is impossible to get working. The maps are very same in design and too many toilets instead of rooms with weapons.

    I should have read the reviews before buying this game. Tried to get on servers and they are full. This is not a fun experience as it takes ages to get going and is really boring after an hour of play. Think it is a bit of a rip off having to pay another $15 just for the single player and bug fixes.

    Far too many bugs cripple this game. Other steam games look better and play better. Not sure if this is worth the money as there are not many servers running and most of them are full. No single player makes this a very boring experience. The maps are very basic and lack any detail. Very disappointed.

    Very original and fun. Maybe not for everyone if they crave hectic and fast paced action but if you are into psychology, or into suspenseful games, this is for you. I can see it getting old, but that could be easily solved if there are occasional updates with new content.

    An already dated game that I simply did not enjoy playing. I found the shallow gameplay came across as far too simplistic for my tastes. At least this was a budget purchase through 'Steam' and not what I would consider to be full price. I guess you really do get what you pay for.

    This game is amazing. I just got it tonight and have been busily exploring its many captivating nitches and corners. Just playing along with other people is great enough to get my attention, but the way this game plays, with such amazing things as shooting flare's at other players and hitting them with mannequin arm's, what game beats that? Detracts from the traditional mantra that more players is better, and you get a real feeling of camaraderie on every server you get; I've found the inherently slow, thoughtful nature of this game attracts a more intelligent audience in general, which makes for some awesome games.     While it may not be the refined, leisurely paced kill-'em-up many eager landlubbers might have signed up for, The Ship does quickly prove itself a subtly addictive, relentless nail biter that will only get better as those already aboard learn to rule the bloody waves.
