I'm just at the beginning and it got me hooked.
In an industry filled with garbage videogames i can't possibly mark any negatives for the Outer Worlds, everything just works and it's immensely entertaining.

Thank you Obsidian for this masterpiece, what a wonderfull job you did there.

If you guys like having all your games polluted with that money grubbing nonsense, go ahead and give this game a bad score. But I think you should stop being so entitled and reward Obsidian for building a PURE GAME that is just a game you buy. The business model of this game is exactly what it should be: purchase the game for 60 dollars and play it to your heart's content, with the company never bothering you to spend another dime. I will ALWAYS support developers with this business model and completely boycott any developer that pedals microtransactions, loot boxes or Day 1 DLC. I would give this same review of 10/10 if this game were bad, but it's not. The game is fantastic. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I'm really, genuinely enjoying it. Also, I love that you get to kill Corporate Commanders in the game. That's Angry Joe's character for the greedy corporations, and you get to KILL THEM. Wonderful! This is a dream come true for anyone who has a clue about the games industry. You all need to vote this up, buy this game, and stop supporting nonsense that's out to exploit you like FIFA, NBA, Battlefront and Battlefront 2, etc. Otherwise you deserve what's comnig to you: a complete monopoly of games that have microtransactions that are necessary to pay to win or pay for convenience, games that release broken on launch day, and no alternatives. THIS IS THE ALTERNATIVE. Support them!!!! Expand

    Here is why:

I was nervous about pre ordering this game (not that it really matters since there is literally no harm no foul for cancelling a pre order and it's only $5)... but my trepidation was from the fact that (surprisingly) not many people I knew had heard of this game in the year leading up to it, but also, I had very high expectations due to the promises of the "throwback rpg" that was supposedly bundled in a "Firefly" type universe. I mean... c'mon! What more could you ask for?

By "throwback rpg," I'm referring to the good ol' days where your decisions ACTUALLY meant something. Your freedom was real and not artificial and not just some marketing promise used to get you to buy the game. I'm talking "old school, dialogue heavy, relationship building, watch your vicarious character's traits/personalities flesh out and evolve right before your eyes based off of your decisions and actions" kind of game.... did that make sense?

So with my high expectations, I couldn't help but feel that I was setting myself up for disappointment... like so many other games that came out in recent years (*cough* Days Gone *cough*). SO MANY GAMES get our hopes up with OVER promising and UNDER-delivering.

Folks, this game delivers on all fronts. True RPG. True to it's promises of decision making/impacting dialogue... OH AND the combat. One thing I didn't hold my breath on (because of past shooting mechanics of the Fallout game) was the... shooting... mechanics. I was doubly prepared for poor shooting because I just came off of Borderlands 3, where the shooting is phenomenal! LOW AND BEHOLD....THE SHOOTING MECHANICS ARE SHOCKINGLY GREAT! Perfect? No. But they hold their own, which just adds to the already superb premise of the game play. It looks like Death Stranding is set up to be a snooze fest and a disappointment (based off of early reviews... even the good reviews state it's boring and extremely frustrating). All I gotta say is thank you "The Outer Worlds" for being the first game in a long time.... maybe ever for keeping ALL OF YOUR PROMISES... AND THEN SOME!!

I absolutely love this game. Feeds a real RPG itch for me. The weaknesses you can acquire is a nice concept & I love the mix of Bioware companions & companion quests, with fallout style gameplay. A depth in character stats is something I have been missing in AAA RPGs since Fallout 3/New Vegas.

This is a truly extraordinary game. While it's true that it's smaller than comparable Bethesda games (Fallout NV, or Skyrim, for example), every aspect of this game is, in my opinion, done better. While it's true that it's smaller than comparable Bethesda games (Fallout NV, or Skyrim, for example), every aspect of this game is, in my opinion, done better. Companion interactions, while smaller, are deeper and more meaningful. The story, while shorter, is more emotive. Every single thing you do has consequences, and those consequences don't feel like they're at the mercy of an unrealistic numerical system, like in many comparable games. The ending (no spoilers) reflects many, MANY choices you made during the game, and every single consequence makes sense. The advancement system is more pleasant to work with, while still being exciting. The gunplay is more fun. The weapon mods, while less extensive (remember: smaller game), are easier to understand, require no grinding/scavenging, and make the weapons not just more effective, but more fun to use. The NPCs are deep. Character customization is a lot of fun. The characters in the game don't all look like they have disfiguring birth defects (looking at you, Elder Scrolls). The dialogue is realistic. The graphics are astounding. (I repeatedly found myself just staring at stuff.) There are numerous hilarious "Easter eggs" that are fun when you find them, but are not required to enjoy the game. (Examples: there is one document where they mention "turoencabulator"--look that up on YouTube; there is another place where you can discuss the merits of a "suggestion box" with a quest giver, to hilarious effect.) The flaws system is fun, if somewhat hazardous.

You really should buy this game or play it as part of a subscription service. Currently, XBox Game Pass (beta) lets you get this game and a gaggle of others for 3 months, for just $1...

Of course, like any game, it isn't 100% perfect (just mostly so). You can seriously mess up your character if you take the wrong flaws. Don't take flaws that reduce your temperament, or you'll no longer be able to regenerate health without using items. Still, unlike with many comparable games, I didn't run into anything where I said to myself, "This is broken". I don't doubt that someone will be able to come up with things they don't like about this game, and that's OK; but I honestly can't find any noteworthy flaws with it.

This game is a masterpiece. If you like the FPSRPG genre, you owe it to yourself to play it.

i play this on a MSI GS65 everything on ultra and it runs flawless, the conversation system is deeper than what seen on previous obsidian art and vastly improved facial animations and modeling makes it feel as an rpg which might sound redundant but we all know what im comparing it against.... The battle system is also improved but the jewel of the crown has to be the rpg mechanics (character progression, habilities etc..). It is how it should be but it is amazing since thats not a standard nowadays.
For me it reunites everything that im loving from 2019...
the first thing is that, under a double A tag it wipes the floor with every (theyre not much) triple A in ps4.
Second it is doing it so well that we can delight ourselves with all the saltiness that makes people create account to give it a 0 and copy-paste a bible that sounds like if they where talking about ”death walking”.

The Outer Worlds feels like a crossover between Fallout: New Vegas and Bioshock, with a graphic style that sometimes feels like Fallout 4 (but with more colour).

The attention to detail in the dialogue is breathtaking. For example, if you wear outfits you have taken from your kills, people will tell you that it is in poor taste to be walking around looking like the bad guys.

I haven't hit any major technical issues so far. I am playing on a cloud gaming service called "Shadow" with an NVIDIA GTX 1080 on max settings. I get the occasional glitch in frame rate, but I get this in all AAA games on Shadow, so I put this down to Shadow and not The Outer Worlds.

The one glitch that drives me mad is when I press "X" on the controller to talk to people, the gun is drawn. Every single time. Luckily, I am not attacked when this occurs: it is just an annoying glitch.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with The Outer Worlds.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.

Usually, a planet has just one or two settlements and a bit of wildlands to explore. But that’s for the best – instead of exploring miles of filler content, Outer Worlds keeps you moving from planet to planet, from one tense situation to another. [Issue#241, p.34]
