The Occupation is a great experience that will have you breaking a sweat as you attempt to use every last second you have to discover the truth about the Turing Incident.

There’s a lot to love with The Occupation. It’s got humanity, tension, and plenty of little touches that make finding that extra bit of information exciting without the usual violence you’ve come to expect from stealth games. However, its focus on no manual saving and real-time gameplay will be a dealbreaker. It’s not for everyone, but anyone craving consequence and narrative in their stealth game will find a challenge worth facing.

The Occupation presents a hidden gem of the investigative puzzle genre, with it’s approach to gameplay and storytelling. Despite its annoying bugs and huge technical problems, with certain fixes on that part, it presents itself as near-masterpiece of an experience.

The Occupation is a remarkable vintage mystery with a high degree of player freedom, flexible story and moments of real thrill. The narrative will suck you in, the peculiar stealth system and 80s atmosphere will keep you there.

From the last effort of White paper games emerges a highly political, exquisitely interactive, courageous work in being perhaps late with technical standards, but fresh and original in the formula play.

Of course, it seems churlish to complain too much about a game I'm enjoying enough to willingly replaying it again and again to explore every facet of its story.

Playing The Occupation is like puzzling over a dense little knot of tangled priorities, information, and pressures. It’s tense to play through, and even more fun to go back and try the process again, armed with information from previous runs. The game can be bleak, and the stakes are high, but there’s still a pleasure to be had at figuring out a system and carefully dismantling it via subterfuge, cleverness, and patience. 2. The nicest layer of the flawed lasagne: being a sneakf.ck and listening to voicemails that don’t belong to you. And then, presumably, getting a chat show in America and a job on morning TV.

I think it’s a pretty good game that’s worth checking out if your at all interested, even just for that fantastic first level. Maybe not for the price of $30 but it will probably be on sale soon, as it doesn’t seem to have sold too well. Which is unfortunate, because I think it’s really unique, and I think more people would enjoy it, despite it’s issues. Full Review »

The story is complex and you need to be interested in politics and conspiracies to enjoy it thoroughly, the fixed time-thing is tense and the atmosphere very strong. I'm having quite some fun playing this and recommend it to anyone who likes games/movies/shows about investigating as well as stealth games and immersive sims! Full Review »

It defies modern conventions with its "pressed for time" style of gameplay where you do not have the luxury of gently plodding your way through the game. This is not a bug, It is a feature. This gives the game so much more replayability than other adventure type narrative games that become mostly useless once all the secrets have been revealed.

Though it could have used a bit more polish before being released to smooth out minor nags and bugs.

Otherwise a genuinely compelling story arc that you would genuinely want to revisit every so often like a good book. Instead of "collect all the things" type of gameplay that gamers have come to expect.

High points for its ambition. Slightly above average on execution. Losing points on minor issues that overall do not harm the sum of its parts. Definitely one of 2019s best game stories.
