The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is an entertaining co-op horror excursion that can sometimes feel a bit too oppressive.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a refreshing co-op horror experience that stands out thanks to its clever insanity mechanics and oppressive Lovecraftian atmosphere. While its story and a few rough edges hold it back, it's an easy recommendation for groups looking for tense, memorable multiplayer sessions.

An atmospheric setting, great audio and visual design, and some amusing and occasionally unnerving cosmic horror have resulted in a unique spin on the extraction genre. For those that vibe with it, it’ll probably provide many hours of fun, with lots to do as players solve mysteries, and seek out the mysterious ‘mound’ and what lies beyond – even if the gameplay loop starts to become a bit repetitive.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu has some promise, but only if you're playing with friends. If you were hoping that you'd be able to dig through to the secrets of the game on your own, I cannot recommend it unless you're a sadist who just wants to suffer for hours on end. The setting and premise are intriguing, but the game is so bogged down by its core loop that I can't help but wonder if this story would've been better told as a book or some other, less interactive media.
