    If youre new to the channel, I love layers of fear, I only metnion it in every other horror review I do, its one of my favorite horror games of all time, so naturally I have to play every game bloobr team makes, and unfortunately they havnt been that good since the observer, however with the medium, bloober team takes a crack at 3rd person horror, and while its far from flawless, it’s a pretty decent first attempt…
    here you play as a medium, you get a call, you go to this creepy hotel to investigate the call, and things don’t get normal from there… reviewing this game was a roller coaster of feelings, as the medim is a roller coaster of quality.. the cutscenes are great, the voice acting, the chracters, the story, all amazing, but the game itself feels really dated, tons of texture pop ins, the game will chug along at times, and overall marianne feels super awkward to control, the cameras, the movements, everything to remind you that despite the acting and cutscenes =, this is indeed not a AAA title, it feels big budget indie, which is fine especially in the hands of bloober team, they are great at creeping you out and building intriguing environments.
    As a medium you can go back and forth between your world and the spirit world, and you get to see both sides at a time, going back and forth to find items or interact with objecst to solve a puzzle or open up an area for the other, it really is a fun little back and forth puzzle game from time to time. However the execution isn’t quite the most enjoyable.. infact overall, The medium is probably one of the least enjoyable horror games ive played in a while, its slow and tedious, these sections while theyre a cool idea, never do anything fresh with it, youre basically doing the alive or dead version of everything you’ve done in horror games before but in accordion from.. Im over dead ends and fixing fuse boxes and finding valves… can horror games come up with literally anything else to do than find the things that’s missing….
    Im so over this type of gameplay, im over being in the same areas for 10-20 minutes just clicking on stuff until I find a missing lever, its boring, borderline painful after a while, and really makes your game feel like a chore.
    Please give me something new, the indie games industry pumps out 20 of these games every year.
    I don’t mind it every once in a while, but when that’s the main hook of your game, I cant.. And with the medium lasting about 6 and a half hours, it feels twice that long with how slow paced it is…
    But ultimately The Medium is saved by its cast of characters and story, I had to see where this was all going, even if it felt like it was going nowhere, enjoy this hotel for the rest of your life.

    Hearkens back to the 3rd person horror of the late 90s-early 2000s (like Silent Hill 1/2/3/4) but The Medium also manages to find it's own niche and is successful in doing so.

    This game is definitely gonna be hit or miss for most people, depending on what you’re looking for in it. If you’re searching for some tense horror gameplay or intricate puzzle solving, I would say look elsewhere. But if you are interested in exploring some incredible hellscape environments and unraveling a really interesting story, then The Medium is definitely a game for you.

    Pese a sus fallos, es un gran juego, con una historia solida y un apartado artístico muy bien logrado, totalmente recomendable si lo que estas buscando es un juego con un ritmo lento; centrado principalmente en la exploración y solución de puzles sencillos.     How about render 4 screens next time? I've heard that there's a PC that can run it still. You can do better next time. Have you ever run performance tests before release?
    Why do you decide to shrink both worlds instead of just switch between them? Maybe two screens should be must have to play? Along with 3090?
    Well music and artwork are awesome, I'll give you that.

    Overall a terrible game, the gameplay is so boring I fell asleep a couple of times, the characters walk and run like they are f*ckin elders. The FPS is an absolute joke, the graphics are meh. Is this supposed to be the new Silent Hill?? LOL Another Microsoft exclusive that belongs in the thrash

    It's a great game with interesting gameplay and music that'll set you in the mood. The game has a nice story that'll get you eager to get to the climax quickly.

    Great atmosphere, artstyle, sounds and music. This looks like a jumpscary horror game but turns out to be much more, the story comes together in the end perfectly. Pacing is great, length great. Looking forward to what developer cooks up next

    Decent. The game's story is good. Gameplay is bare bones. Chase scenes with the game's primary villain lead to some genuinely adrenaline pumping moments. Environments begin to look drab and repetitive until you get outside the facility. The story drove me to see the game through to completion. The game has some unique elements which help make up for the minimal level of interactivity.

This company needs to stop trying to make horror games, you wanna know how to make a survival horror game? Ask Team Silent or Shinji Mikami instead of wasting resources in a game like The Medium.Indie garbage. Barely no gameplay and there's no combat. This is a movie, not a game. Fixed camer angles alone don't make a survival horror game, and the angles are so bad and so poorly placed that Alone in the Dark 1 is a masterpiece compared to this. So many damn cutscenes makes this game so boring, if you like to enjoy other things besides the story, forget about this game. Akira Yamaoka is a master, but a bad game with good music is not an option for me, sorry. This cannot be called a horror game, let alone a survival horror game.

    This game is not a horor game, but more a thriller. The only time I got scared was at the begining at the game. I would recommended this game to you if you like a good thriller. It has alot of good puzzles. The graphics is also good and it has some really good scenes .

    Best Xbox - Pc exclusive so far. Beautiful and unique, immersive, great atmosphere , visuals, voice acting and story. Performance and character animation could be a little better but I think that Bllober team will take care of these things in the sequel...

    Great job from a small studio.. keep up the good work!

    I appreciate effort to make something unique and different. Considered how different it is compared to other games, I think devs did great job.
    From my perspective, the best thing about this game is two worlds system, which creates very decent atmosphere. Audio-visually the game is superb too. I found myself bored by plain walking sometimes, so maybe if playtime was used better, its length would be enough. Story is also told via letters found randomly.
    Main character is very charismatic and I liked her.
    What I didn't like about this game is camera. Yes, it is unique, and I liked it at very beginning, but later in the game it started to be annoying. Whole camera system is interesting for sure, but it also creates situations where character is difficult to control and you may find yourself kind of lost sometimes. Standard camera system simply provides better overview.
    When it comes to general gameplay, I am not impressed. It was little too hollow I would say.
    I like puzzle elements in games, but not too much in this one. Some people may be ok with them, but I found them little boring or annoying in general.

    Pros:
    + story,
    + graphics and audio,
    + main character,
    + parallel worlds system,
    + cutscenes,
    + general immersion.

    Cons:
    - keyboard experience,
    - camera,
    - little backtracking,
    - lot of plain boring walking,

    hope bloober team is gona start working on a remaster version of the medium. that master peace Narrative and voice acting deserves a better gameplay and less graphic issues.

    For this sized Studio,The Medium is an Awesome Game

    I joined the Xbox ecosystem with Xbox One X in Summer 2020.I didnt play so many Xbox exclusives.Also i purchased Game Pass Ultimate with Xbox One X.I played The Medium at PC.Because it wasnt compatible with Xbox One X.But The Medium is by far the best Xbox/PC exclusive game that i have ever played.The team made an awesome work.Though    For this sized Studio,The Medium is an Awesome Game

    Un buen juego, me ha sorprendido mucho. No suelo jugar a juegos de terror pero gracias a su historia no he podido parar (pese a los sustos). El toque de pantalla doble es muy original y la historia engancha de principio a fin. Como aspectos negativos podría destacar algunos crasheos que tuve en un momento del juego y que técnicamente es muy exigente. Jugando con una RTX 2060 los framesUn buen juego, me ha sorprendido mucho. No suelo jugar a juegos de terror pero gracias a su historia no he podido parar (pese a los sustos). El toque de pantalla doble es muy original y la historia engancha de principio a fin. Como aspectos negativos podría destacar algunos crasheos que tuve en un momento del juego y que técnicamente es muy exigente. Jugando con una RTX 2060 los frames oscilaban continuamente entre 40-60 y a veces con caídas muy bruscas y lagazos. Recomendaría este juego a cualquiera, espero que haya una segunda parte.… Expand

    One of the best games I've played in a long time. The story and atmosphere were wonderful and the voice acting was top notch. Performance left a lot to be desired though. I really hope they continue the story.

    Very intense, very grim, The story is well developed, the surrounding is just magnificent. Very often you see nice enough horrors, that turns a bit candy at the some point. no such thing in here! From the very beginning until the heartbreaking end- not a drop of hope in the story. If you enjoyed Hellblade this will be your new obsessive-compulsive experience.

The controls and mechanics of having to activate items, zoom in on them etc made it feel like the original Resident Evil, but with much less action. What I experienced as gameplay was walking around looking/backtracking looking for objects (with no run option to make it less tedious). Also suffers from serious performance issues. Loading stutter on a 10600K @4.9 GHz with an RTX 3080. RTX on ultra at 1440p brought the framerate down into the 30-40s, RTX on normal was 50-60s, and RTX off was 90 fps, even on scenes with a static, or almost static camera. It looks nice, but not that nice. Basically this a walking simulator with light puzzle elements in which you need to find things in the correct order, except less enjoyable than other games in that category I have played such as the Vanishing of Ethan Carter, What Remains of Edith Finch, Dear Esther, Stanley Parable, Abzu, Journey, The Unfinished Swan, and Rime.… Expand

It left me feeling shocked and exited for everything that happened withing those last minutes. It is storytelling at it's best. You feel the characters and their emotions, you feel what they've gone through. The music greatly complements the story and action. The performance from the voice actors and music artists is really good as well. They help the game feel more real and emotional. The gameplay is almost 99% exploration and that's fine by me, because you slowly piece everything together on your own. It also doesn't fell dull at any moment. I didn't exactly love the "escape from the monster" sequences but it had it's place in a story. Everything else gameplay wise was just great. Overall an amazing game and an emotional experience. I highly recommend it especially if you have Game Pass. Check it out, the game has some nice horror elements and its extremally interesting.… Expand

    The game sets a very creepy tone from the start. This isn’t your usual combat horror game. This takes you on a journey that is filled with scares and interesting characters. A very story driven game that I loved from start to finish.

    Richtung Ende hatte ich öfter 20-30FPS bei manchen Rätzeln in der nah Ansicht kurze Drops auf 2-3FPS für 10 Sec. Danach wieder 60-70FPS.

    Horror ist für mich Resident Evil 2,3,7 usw. Evil Within. Aber das hier ist echt langweilig.
    Laufen... Taste drücken... laufen... ein Gespräch anhören oder ein Zettel lesen. Kurz vor einen Monster in Deckung gehen weiter laufen.

    Hatte mir viel mehr erwartet. Aber das Spiel motiviert überhaupt nicht zum weiterspielen. Habe es trotzdem hinter mich gebracht. War im Gamepass dabei. Gekauft hätte ich es mir nie mals!!!

    Ich hoffe das Spiel wird noch optimiert!

    The Medium is a psychological thriller with various simple puzzles, a whiff of horror and music like from Silent Hill. As a result, you will play the game mainly because of the storytelling and for its atmosphere. [Issue#310]

    The Medium deftly ties all loose story ends and shows impressive art direction, but it lacks wholeness. The game feels like an artist who has too many ideas at the same time; he would grab a brush, then a pen or a piece of coal… but still cannot finish his masterpiece.

    The Medium isn't an unflawed masterpiece. It's got some performance issues on PC and some jankeyness in unexpected places. However it has got this absolutely unique horror atmosphere, beautifully crafted worlds and some absolute heart-string pulling story moments. This is a successful return of the "horror adventure" game style from those golden oldies everyone fondly remembers. Bloober Team has done an outstanding job making this title and it's one hundred percent recommended to all fans of horror.
