Mageseeker is perhaps my favorite thing to come out of Riot Forge publishing yet. Digital Sun has already proven that they have a good grasp of what makes an action-RPG fun, but they put their chops to great work here, bending a highly interesting corner of League of Legends lore to their style. Sylas fits them well, and they make his story sing in turn. Between compelling ability-stealing combat, chain-flinging traversal, an ever-expanding and upgradeable arsenal, and a beautiful musical score guiding another awesome visual and narrative interpretation of League of Legends, Mageseeker is an incredible time. Whether you’re a fan of League of Legends or not, this is a journey worth seeing through to the end.

A revolutionary tale told with memorable characters, excellent combat, and surprisingly forthright politics.

The Mageseeker is another reason to be excited about where Riot are going to take League of Legends in the future.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is a magical RPG with consistent and interconnected mechanics. You will make use of each of the gameplay mechanics that it proposes. Nothing is left over. It is a very balanced installment both on narrative and mechanical levels. The designs are simple, but their fluidity stands out. The difficulty level is enough to keep you entertained without getting too tense. Seeing characters from League of Legends lore repurposed efficiently is fantastic.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is an extremely fun and enjoyable game, perfect for both League of Legends fans and newcomers. It stands out as a unique and individual game, and might even attract some people to the famous MOBA, as its beautiful story and charming environments will surely draw the attention of more than one RPG fan. Despite its flaws, its experience is highly recommended since it will only take you about 12 hours to complete it.

Despite a simple gameplay loop and basic level design, Mageseeker is a joyous, and addictive game to play. The repetitiveness never wears out the combat and continues to keep the player fully engaged. While the story of revenge is a familiar one, the cast elevates it to great heights and a thrilling conclusion. The Mageseeker’s overall experience is enjoyable and it’s as very easy recommendation.

The Mageseeker has consciously drawn its line. It didn't go overboard, but it made an enjoyable game within the known and familiar boundaries of the hack and slash genre. Not to mention the fact that it answers existing questions instead of further complicating the story of League of Legends.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is simple but skillfully implemented in many aspects. The same skillfullness may not be present in other areas, but the experience as a whole is very decent.

The Mageseeker triumphs as a complex exploration of revolution and prejudice, while also breathing new life into champions old and new. A couple of small bugs and odd combat choices don’t stop this from being one of the most successful expansions of League of Legends lore to come out of Riot Forge.

The Mageseeker is a concentrate of speed and action, penalized only by a monotony of the stages and a scarce variety of contents offered in the exploration. Thankfully, the very deep and properly layered battle system manages to counter this issue. In the 15 hours needed to finish the adventure, The Mageseeker will certainly not encourage replayability or backtracking, but will be able to put your skills to the test even in secondary missions. In short, the sum of the parts makes this League of Legends spin-off worthy of being played even by those who are not a strict connoisseur of the Riot universe.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is another compelling spin-off from Riot Forge. Despite some imperfections, it offers fun gameplay, a well-realized world and a likable, if headstrong, protagonist.

Riot Forge has an incredible track record of matching studios with the right project, and this is the best example yet. It is such a strong execution of an idea that it ultimately suffers for being underscoped. Had The Mageseeker had the full force of Riot behind it I can easily see it being a game of the year contender, but it feels like the publisher isn’t ready to go all-in on these outside projects yet. I don’t think Sylas’ story should end here, and I’m excited to see what Digital Sun does with the world of Runeterra next.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story, is a story of a revolution, a personal crusade and a life lesson that you should definitely enjoy if you are a lover of the League of Legends universe and lore. Although the game excels in its artwork and in the personality of Sylas, our protagonist, it has some shortcomings. Especially in the combat system focused on long-term play. Repetition of enemies and little variety of these in general. In the end, the title fulfills most of its aspects, with an atmospheric music and combat of 10 and a story that will undoubtedly make you want to continue advancing to discover its secrets.

Mageseeker delights with action-packed combat if you can overlook the crude story and some superfluous features.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is a bite-sized adventure and decent enough 2D action game that will keep players entertained during its short playtime. While it isn’t overly mechanically complex, mastering its magic system is rewarding. However, those looking for a more substantial story which remains consistent with Riot Games’ previous lore concerning Sylas may feel a bit underwhelmed or disappointed.

The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story is a harrowing combination of unimaginative, tired game design and stale writing. I hate tearing the game down because I believe the developers worked hard on it, but this is a League of Legends game that is going to attract fans of the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). While this $30, 15-hour game feels like 45 hours to complete, that’s $2 per hour of pain. I couldn’t wait for the game to be over, and if I weren’t reviewing it, I would have quit by the fifth hour. I don’t care how much of a League of Legends fan you are, attractive pixel art and decent boss battles aren’t enough to justify this investment.

It has everything to be a must have for every League of Legends's fans, but finally is a big disappointment.

There are a few typos in the game’s UI, like the status effect ‘inmune’, or receiving a blessing with an extra S. But despite a few small issues, I otherwise found this Riot Forge title to be another smooth ride through League’s increasingly complex canon. The Mageseeker makes the smart move of setting up some truly hateable villains, and then lets me smash their hopes and dreams — what more could I want from a game about toppling the elite? The character is too slow to react, which makes the game-play very frustrating. It's a shame because, except this, the game-play is original and pretty well done, the artistic direction is nice and the story is interesting (even though pretty basic). In the end, it's overall a nice game but a bit expensive (mostly the deluxe version which isn't interesting enough to add 10 euros in my opinion). Full Review »

But battle mage fantasy is executed very well.

Story is great, it's pretty simple but it is executed perfectly. All the character are believable and the whole main character development arc as well.

Pixel art is great, not so good as Blasphemous, but level design is still clean and nice, Boss fights look especially pretty.

Like the fact that the game allows you to fully upgrade yourself and run a few missions with it.

Want to specifically point out the J4 and Shivana boss fight, one of the best I've had in many years.

"Nocturne" boss fight sucks tho. It's just a reskin from a previous boss

The storyline is not complex, but it make a nice background to understand decision's and process of changing - not only Sylas but all teammates. Yeah, it's a little buggy but there are no problem with finish game. A little bit empty for my opinion and surely way, way overprice. If you like e.g Moonlighter, you should wait for some discount and try it for your own. Full Review »
