They removed their product from GeForce Now. Developer is greedy, doesn't want their customers to do what they please with their own purchase. Never buy a game again from this developer, this is all clearly money driven. We can't let evil like this win. We can't drown Activision/Blizzard, but we can drown you.

Devs are greedy, keep away from this game, it's also boring and poor executed, play snake rather than this

The developers behind this game are restricting users on how their customers play the games they PURCHASED from them by refusing to let them stream on Geforce Now. Shame on them.

Bought it for nvidia now, but greedy dev f-cks want more money and power to decide where I should play. Got refund, never buy anything from them again.

This review has nothing to do with the game but with a greedy anti consumer developer. He removed the game from GeForce Now (it's a platform where you can stream a powerful PC so you can access your steam library even on a potato) in the guise of supporting licensing control for devs, but really was mad Nvidia was giving him a cut of their subscription costs.

The platform is the same as has always been available, you buy and play the game through Stream, and GFN allows a much bigger audience who can't afford expensive gaming rigs to play these games. Screw you, I refuse to purchase/play any game you develop now

I do not own the game, but due to the anti-consumer action of the producer in not allowing the people who PURCHASED the game on Steam to play on Geforce Now because they want more money without doing absolutely anything else to deserve the extra money since Nvidia does not charge nothing to companies, so I don't recommend this game or my worst enemy, that's right, boycott them, if you wantI do not own the game, but due to the anti-consumer action of the producer in not allowing the people who PURCHASED the game on Steam to play on Geforce Now because they want more money without doing absolutely anything else to deserve the extra money since Nvidia does not charge nothing to companies, so I don't recommend this game or my worst enemy, that's right, boycott them, if you want to play this game, I recommend pirating it. Removing the game from GeForce now only because the devs are greedy as fck, is what mas me make an account here and give 0 rating. Deserved.

I bought the game few days ago om Steam as I wanted to play it om Geforce Now on my crappy laptop.
Now it turns out I can't play it anymore because the developer isn't happy because Nvidia didn't ask them for permission to support their game in their service. It seems they don't like free marketing and they dont appreciate those sales that they got thanks to GFN that they wouldn't have got

I don't see why the publisher cares if I execute the game on my local pc or a remote one. I bought the game so they already earn money with it.

Very unhappy with the developers decision to pull this from GFN. Absolutely childish and greedy behaviour. I would refund the game if I could!

One of the worst games. Really boring. And greedy developer. If you can, try to avoid this game and save money for some better indie game - which you can play where you want to, even on GFN

I like to compare this game to Subnautica, which is one of my all-time favourite games. This game, like Subnautica, is a relaxing exploration and survival game. But unlike Subnautica, it is set in the real world, with a focus on survival in the wilderness which is a great idea. Sadly, it suffers from poor execution and a mediocre storyline.

The most interesting part of the game will be the first 50 hours because you are still figuring everything out and try to not die, but after you reach the end-game you will get bored very quickly, since the map is fairly small (although it takes a lot of time to travel through it) and there are no more things left to do or items to craft. There are only a measly 6 kinds of animals in this game, which is frankly pathetic (I do not usually use this word, but I can't help it), considering that wilderness is the theme of this game.

I do not recommend playing this game in long sessions because you will just get fed up and not want to play it again. Trust me ;) However, it is a very relaxing experience if you only play it in short bursts during winter.

Finally I found a realistic game about survival without zombies and mutants. Here you struggle with nature and try to survive. The game is very difficult.
I also liked the plot, especially episode 3

It's one of those games that teaches you to be patient and find satisfaction and contentment in the little things. It also teaches you all of these things while trying to kill you with hunger, exhaustion, thirst, wild animals, injuries and cold temperatures. Preparation is mission critical and being careful and aware of your surroundings is a must. I really like the art style and graphics. My only issue with this game is that is doesn't allow me to kill and loot every person I meet along the way, which would be nice and appropriate for the theme. The carry weight is also minimal at 30 kilos.

I never thought I would find so much satisfaction from simply starting a campfire and cooking food and boiling water. But this game made it happen. It's so rewarding finding just a single bullet and food in the middle of nowhere. Killing bunnies to eat them also feels sad, but life is tough and this is... Spart.... eh... Canada!

I find the resources in the game to be very abundant even in Interloper difficulty, which causes me to travel all the time at slightly over 30 kilos. Food and tools are there and being that I avoid the dangerous animals all the time, I have plenty of stuff to spare. Hot Coffee is also life, as I drink it during snowstorms. Nice mechanic you have there.

The story is good as well, but not too great. It has enough to keep you going and exploring. Speaking of exploring, the game rewards you a lot for this. Which is nice, since most open-world games nowadays are both huge and full of empty space. Not in the Long Dark. I hope to find Astrid soon, so I can kill her and cook her meat for dinner, while repairing my worn expedition shoes with her dried flesh. I want to craft a few snares using her guts, as well. Not interested in saving her in the slightest.

Surviving in a harsh world has never been so engaging, threatening and relaxing all at the same time. Two thumbs up to the developers for this great work!

The graphics are simple and there are basically no animations. Yet there is a certain charm to the game aesthetically speaking. But where TLD really shines is the gameplay. Layers and layers of decision making. It's all about forward thinking, planning, adapting to unforseen circumstances, and sometimes just running from a wolf in the dark with hypothermia and crossed fingers, hoping to find some shelter and wondering if you'll freeze to death in your sleep or not.

The game can be relaxing, meditative, serene. And then it can be as intense as anything you've ever played. TLD is proof that a well-designed game focused on interesting decisions for player to make trumps expensive animation and hollywood pizzazz by a long shot. I fall asleep playing Tomb Raider or Horizon or God of War. When I play TLD, I decide to try a quick challenge and twelve hours later I suddenly realize I have work tomorrow and need to get my butt in bed.

Well done guys. This is how you make a GD game.

Expand

The Long Dark is an ambitious survival-against-nature game that did its concepts, mechanics and storytelling right, but painfully fails to design the controls and overall navigation friendly enough without its players accidentally blurting out a swear.

The Long Dark is a slow burn. One moment you might be appreciating the beautifully crafted frozen tundra, and the next you are struggling for your life with a pack of wolves. Every moment feels important, like a fight for survival. The smallest decisions can have lasting impact. One mistake can end your life. It is survival game like no other.

The Quiet Apocalypse isn’t without problems, but Hinterland's commitment to adding new content, while refining the experience over the years, has positioned The Long Dark at the top of the survival genre’s pecking order. The Long Dark is a must-play for anyone who is even remotely intrigued by it.
