    This is a game that is in development since 2012 and it shows.
    Graphics were decent for 2012 but were already dated on release in 2017.
    AI of wildlife is on the same level as guards in metal gear 2, only guard mode. The AI in "The Sims 1" had to take care of needs, here the AI has no needs, just patrol duty. Action and Itemwise the game is also very limited. Crafting is VERY    This is a game that is in development since 2012 and it shows.

    Crafting is VERY rudimentary.

    Game Design follows the dated graphics, like in many games from the 2000s and 2010s this is not a real open world game. Yes, you can move freely, but transitions between Areas are only possible via specific routes. Imagine a chessboard, each field is an area in the game, to switch areas you must move through "transition tubes".

    Despite the game's release in 2017 in early 2021 the story mode is only 3/5 finished and it is expected to finish in 2022, 5 years after the release, with 10 years of development.

    Bugs are fixed very slow, with some bugs, like a cooking bug that did not make cooked peaches warm you up taking 1 YEAR to fix.

    Hostile animals can spawn in front of you and kill you, that is extremely bad as this is a rogue game, i.e. permadeath, where a "playthrough" can take weeks, which will then be lost.

    Instead of fixing the bugs, adding the final 2 chapters, the developers have been busy with porting the game to every game console, with ports for PS4, XBOX ONE and Switch. Of course there is also a MAC version.
    In preparation to the launch of Stadia they pulled the Game from GeforceNow, and put it back on some months later when Stadia was failing.

    I bought the game few days ago om Steam as I wanted to play it om Geforce Now on my crappy laptop.
    Now it turns out I can't play it anymore because the developer isn't happy because Nvidia didn't ask them for permission to support their game in their service. It seems they don't like free marketing and they dont appreciate those sales that they got thanks to GFN that they wouldn't have got    I bought the game few days ago om Steam as I wanted to play it om Geforce Now on my crappy laptop.

    One of the worst games. Really boring. And greedy developer. If you can, try to avoid this game and save money for some better indie game - which you can play where you want to, even on GFN

    They started early acces on Steam in 2014 and their episodic story mode is still missing 2 of the 5 episodes. Then they kill modding, because "it's unofficial" and affects "my vision".     Survival mode is decent, but the Single-player (story mode) is utter garbage. Needs more testers because certain sections are just broken. One section has you square off with a wolf, the game recommends that you avoid the wolf. However, there is no way for you to avoid it, because no matter what, it will always go straight for you (almost like a bug).     Graphics are utter garbage, call it artistic but i call it garbage.

    Sound is amazing, they at least got that one right.

    Gameplay, is garbage. Why can I not boil water and do other activities? They should have allowed us to multitask. It's clunky, slow af, boring, and frustratingly annoying to play.

    why did you remove your game from Geforce now I can no longer play when I am on a business trip, my laptop does not support pc games it is not powerful enough, I signed up for Geforce now because it allows me to play without having to buy a new laptop when I'm traveling !!!     Bought this a few days ago on steam for sale, and episode 1 of Story Mode was really fun, and I loved it. But then, I started episode 2. Ugh! Fetch this, fetch that, go here, go there. Very tedious and boring. So, I stopped and skipped to episode 3 (female character). Started out pretty good, then it just turned sour about 1/4 through and I quit.     I purchased The Long Dark on Steam, I should have the right to play it on any hardware or service that supports Steam. I bought your game, how do you have the right to tell me I can’t play it? What if my PC broke down and instead of buying a new one I started using GeForce Now exclusively? Now, because of arbitrary decisions by the developer, I can’t access the games I paid for.

    The developer blocks this game from being played on GeForce Now after you purchase it on Steam from pure GREED. Valve should pull this game from the store completely and refund everyone who bought it. This is worse than loot boxes and microtransactions.

He removed the game from GeForce Now (it's a platform where you can stream a powerful PC so you can access your steam library even on a potato) in the guise of supporting licensing control for devs, but really was mad Nvidia was giving him a cut of their subscription costs.

    Got the game from beta. Its a good game. Unfortunately developers became greedy so i wont be playing it on GN or any other platform for consistency purposes

    Bad graphics, weird and clunky gameplay, no source of story at all. This game has a good premise and poor execution. The cut scenes do have a nice artistic touch, although they majorly lack any depth.

    Many people bought the game on steam only so that they can play it on GFN.

    I had about 200 hours in this game on Steam, I bought it when it was in beta stage, now it's to unoptimized for my ol' PC so I jumped on Geforce NOW it was my last hope, but I didn't find the game there, so I went into the Internet and read that it was removed the day before, fascinating!, I just want to play the game where I want to play it.

And went straight into cave, after i needed to go back 2 times, because i didn't have wood. To be honest and second time i went back to craft torch it said i need oil lamp. Games are supposed to be fun, this was made for masochists... Even making fire takes too long... So because i didn't take best possible pathing and i am not global elite in cs go and didn't kill instantly all 4 rabbits, now i am stuck and i can't even do anything, i have to just sit there and wait god knows how long, before storm is over ? Btw i eaten fully and only after 4 hour sleep, i am hungry again. You have to drink and eat every 5 minutes. This game feels like a chore...… Expand

If I drink a bunch of water before going to sleep in real life, I wake up having to go to the bathroom, not on the verge of dehydration. This idea causes the game to devolve to a state of playing wac-a-mole with the time commitments you have to make to survive, while you're completely at the mercy of the spontaneous storms.

    I imagine the game will be better once it's out of alpha and is feature complete, but currently it becomes boring quite fast.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Got this game for free and played around 2 hours of it. The first hour or so was simply ok, but then things went really south. Game threw me an extensive 15 minute exposition scene, which was extremely boring and cliché. I am not really a fan of survival games and this game was really mediocre at best. If you are a fan of this type of game this could be great but, in my case, this was a massive disappointment.… Expand

    The art style didn't really do it for me. It looked last decade or is that last two decades ago? People who made this game never have even gone camping like once in winter weather. I can't see anything redeeming or realistic in this "S U R V I V A L" game.

    The game has potential, but is ruined by the lazy devs. They haven´t even fullfilled promises made over 6 years ago. Updates are few and far between, but they sure ramp up their posts in time for a nice steam sale. Just another reminder to not buy early access games.

    This is the best game ever. Except one thing - the episode 4. It's pathetic. I have been waiting so long to feel totally disappointing.

    No es un juego para todas las personas pero si lo sabes disfrutar te va a encantar. Al principio se te puede hacer pesado ir de aquí para allá por la nieve pero la supervivencia es eso, ir de un punto a otro del mapa y para ello cazar, refugiarse del frío, de las tormentas, hacer fuego, cocinar, hervir agua etc. La ambientación es realmente inmersa y la historia se va cocinando a fuegoNo es un juego para todas las personas pero si lo sabes disfrutar te va a encantar. Al principio se te puede hacer pesado ir de aquí para allá por la nieve pero la supervivencia es eso, ir de un punto a otro del mapa y para ello cazar, refugiarse del frío, de las tormentas, hacer fuego, cocinar, hervir agua etc. La ambientación es realmente inmersa y la historia se va cocinando a fuego lento. No esperen un juego de supervivencia desenfrenado. También quiero destacar que se nota que en cada capitulo intentan mejorar y van añadiendo nuevas mejoras y mas objetos como bombas caseras para librarse de los lobos o arcos y flechas. Como punto negativo es que ya he terminado el nuevo capitulo y ahora hasta el siguiente tendré que esperar una eternidad… Expand

    I loved the first chapter... but then... what the hell? Why did you go from a fair size map to a HUGE map... I mean I tried to stream this game and I got bored.... 2 hours only walking from one place to the other and getting back to the same place...

    The Long Dark is poorly balanced. It claims to be realistic and, in the end, manages to be realistic but in a surreal way. Everything that have to do with wildlife is horrendous. HORRENDOUS: animations, behavior patterns, hit-boxes, A.I... Hunting is horrible; deers can climb rocks and mountains, but your are unable to jump even 15 cm.     The Quiet Apocalypse isn’t without problems, but Hinterland's commitment to adding new content, while refining the experience over the years, has positioned The Long Dark at the top of the survival genre’s pecking order. The Long Dark is a must-play for anyone who is even remotely intrigued by it.
